Dr. Jinto John, Vice President of the District Congress Committee (DCC) Ernakulam, participated in an event titled The Flood of Resistance (പ്രതിരോധത്തിൻ്റെ പ്രളയം) organized by the Students Islamic Organization (SIO) Kerala chapter. The gathering, held in Fort Kochi on 7 October 2025 Tuesday, was part of a programme commemorating two years of Toofanul Aqsa and focused on Palestinian solidarity.

The program, attended by local activists and supporters, featured speeches highlighting ongoing struggles in Palestine. Dr. Jinto John, a Congress member, openly has indulged in such activities especially with an organisation that has earlier mourned the deaths of terrorists while celebrating the 2023 bloody 7 October killings of Israelis by Hamas.

SIO Mourned Terrorists

In October 2024, a “Mayyath Niskaram” (funeral prayer) for Yahya Sinwar, the slain leader of Hamas, was organized in Kerala, raising eyebrows and igniting discussions about the complex socio-political landscape of the region. Sinwar was killed four days ago by Israeli forces, following his role as the architect behind the October 7th attack that claimed the lives of 1,200 innocent civilians in Israel. The prayer was organized by the Student’s Islamic Organization (SIO), a youth wing of Jamat-e-Islami, a group known for its Islamic activism. Photos of the event were widely circulated on social media, featuring Samad Kunnakav, assistant secretary of Jamat-e-Islami Kerala, leading the prayer.

The SIO’s Facebook page for Ernakulam publicized the event, depicting Sinwar as a “valiant warrior” and showcasing images of the gathering, which drew participation from local youths and students.

In August 2024, in Kozhikode, the Students Islamic Organisation (SIO) displayed banners and standees in remembrance of Hamas terrorist leader Ismail Haniyeh a few weeks after his death. The organization used social media platforms to call on Muslim youth in Kerala to unite in support of Hamas and the Palestinian cause.

It is shocking that a Congress member attends and endorses events conducted by an organisation that openly supports mass murder and celebrates terror and mourns terrorists’ deaths.

The Congress party in Kerala faces fresh embarrassment as Youth Congress leader and party spokesperson Jinto John came under fire for making a remark against Lord Krishna during a television channel discussion. The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) has accused him of blasphemy, demanding a public apology from both John and the Congress.

The controversy erupted during a debate on alleged cyberbullying targeting CPI(M) leader K J Shine and MLA Unnikrishnan. In the course of the discussion, John stated, “Everyone living in Kerala is sensible. In Kerala, “Unnikrishnan” is a term commonly used to describe people involved in immoral behaviour.”

Following the backlash, John expressed regret, calling it an accidental slip during the heated exchange. “It occurred in the middle of an argument with the channel anchor,” he said. However, KPCC president Sunny Joseph clarified that the question of disciplinary action had not yet reached him.

This is not the first time John has faced controversy. CPM leaders had earlier boycotted him in channel discussions after his reported defamatory post against K J Shine. Within the Congress too, discontent has been brewing over the conduct of certain Youth Congress leaders, who are accused of repeatedly putting the leadership in a difficult position.

The latest episode, involving a statement construed as disrespect towards Lord Krishna, has intensified criticism. The BJP charged that the remark was an expression of deep-seated hostility towards the Hindu faith. According to its leaders, John’s words reflected Hindu hatred and were consistent with what they described as the Congress party’s “history of Hindumesia and attacks on the beliefs of the majority population.”

While John has insisted his comment was unintended, political observers believe the controversy is likely to haunt the Congress in Kerala in the days to come.

Leader of Opposition VD Satheesan, once projected as the face of a generational shift in the Congress party in Kerala, is finding the political ground beneath him increasingly shaky, not because of attacks from the ruling CPI(M), but due to growing dissent within his own party.

When Satheesan was elevated to the LoP post in 2021, bypassing senior figures like Ramesh Chennithala, it was seen as the high command’s attempt to break away from the entrenched factional politics that had gripped the party since the 1970s. From the bitter Karunakaran–Antony rivalry to the Chandy–Chennithala years, group wars have shaped Congress politics in Kerala. Satheesan’s assertive leadership initially helped rein in veterans such as Chennithala and state party chief K. Sudhakaran.

However, the tables appear to have turned with younger leaders – Shafi Parambil, P.C. Vishnunath and V.T. Balram – challenging him. Matters worsened when first-time MLA Rahul Mamkootathil was hit by allegations of sexual misconduct. Satheesan’s tough stand against the legislator drew criticism from social media networks sympathetic to the “young turks”, who accused him of isolating a colleague.

Observers note the irony. “During Oommen Chandy’s tenure as Chief Minister (2011–16), Satheesan, along with then KPCC president V.M. Sudheeran, gave Chandy one of his hardest times. Now, Satheesan is experiencing similar resistance,” remarked a political analyst. Beyond internal rumblings, Satheesan is also reportedly losing the confidence of influential community organisations like the Nair Service Society (NSS) and the Sree Narayana Dharma Paripalana (SNDP) Yogam – both crucial players in Kerala’s electoral landscape.

These shifts could weaken the traditional support base of Congress. Amid these pressures, Satheesan, who has represented Paravur since 2001 after his initial defeat in 1996, is said to be weighing a shift to the Congress stronghold of Thrikkakara. The constituency, considered loyal to the party, is seen as a safer bet.

For now, Satheesan has maintained a combative front in the Assembly. But insiders say the upcoming local body elections will be a decisive test of his leadership. Any setback could not only dent his credibility but also embolden internal rivals further. At a time when the Congress is struggling to regain lost ground in Kerala, Satheesan’s ability to navigate this storm may well determine both his own political survival and the party’s future trajectory in the state.

Yet again, the Congress party has been exposed for circulating misinformation and later attempting a cover-up by deleting their post. Just hours after Rahul Gandhi alleged that the Election Commission was engaged in software-driven voter deletion and vote theft to help the BJP, the Kerala Congress unit shared a video on x claiming it showed a man deleting voters from the rolls.

The clip, however, turned out to be entirely misleading. It actually featured Bhaskar Kakati, an India Post employee stationed at Meghdoot Bhavan, the Guwahati General Post Office in Assam. Known locally for his extraordinary typing speed, Kakati has been featured in Assamese media before, with reports noting how people often prefer his counter since he clears requests faster than others.

Despite this, Kerala Congress captioned the video with a mocking post, calling the man “Nagraj” and alleging he was removing Congress voters at 4 a.m., drawing a bizarre comparison to Rahul Gandhi’s jibe against the Prime Minister. After the truth came out, the party quietly deleted the post.

The Assam BJP strongly criticised the move, accusing Congress of tarnishing the reputation of a hardworking clerk for political propaganda. In a statement, the party said: “Congress has once again exposed its bankrupt politics! To run their propaganda, they shamelessly dragged a respected Guwahati GPO clerk—known for his honesty and lightning-fast service—into their petty drama. The man who has earned love through hard work is being mocked by a party that has never respected workers.”

Meanwhile, the Election Commission has already dismissed Rahul Gandhi’s allegations, clarifying that voter deletion cannot be done online and is carried out only by the ECI after due process and hearings.

The upcoming Global Ayyappa Summit, planned as part of the platinum jubilee celebrations of the Travancore Devaswom Board (TDB), has triggered a political storm in Kerala. On Tuesday, Leader of the Opposition V.D. Satheesan accused the ruling CPI-M of organising the event to appease majority communal sentiments.

“The CPI-M is using Sabarimala’s name for majority appeasement. This newfound devotion began only after its parliamentary poll defeat. Now they are clinging to Lord Ayyappa, making communalism their political weapon, even moving in tandem with the Sangh Parivar,” Satheesan said. He warned that the CPI-M’s move was “like scratching one’s head with fire”, adding that what happened to the Left in Bengal awaited them in Kerala.

We know nothing about this so-called Ayyappa congregation,” he said. The Global Ayyappa Summit is scheduled for September 20 on the banks of the sacred Pampa River near Sabarimala. Kerala Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan will inaugurate the event, conceived as one of the largest spiritual congregations in South India.

Devaswom Minister V.N. Vasavan formally extended invitations to political leaders, including the Tamil Nadu Chief Minister M.K. Stalin, during a visit to Chennai. However, Chief Minister Stalin later conveyed his inability to attend due to prior commitments. Instead, Tamil Nadu Ministers P.K. Sekarbabu and Palanivel Thiaga Rajan will represent the state government at the event.

Meanwhile, the BJP also sharpened its attack. Kerala BJP President Rajeev Chandrasekhar accused both Vijayan and Stalin of repeatedly insulting Sabarimala traditions and Hindu devotees.

“Pinarayi Vijayan jailed and assaulted Ayyappa devotees, while Stalin and his son Udhayanidhi have called Hindu faith a virus. This Ayyappa event is nothing but an election drama,” Chandrasekhar wrote in a Facebook post. He added that the CPI-M leaders could attend only if they apologised to Hindus and Ayyappa bhakts.

The All India Congress Committee (AICC) has directed the Kerala Pradesh Congress Committee (KPCC) to conduct an internal probe into complaints raised against first-time legislator and Youth Congress president, Rahul Mamkoottathil.

Indications have come that he might be removed from the post of president. AICC general secretary in charge of Kerala, Deepadas Munshi, has instructed the state leadership to examine the matter and report back. The development comes amid mounting political pressure and public debate over the allegations.

On Wednesday night, angry BJP workers staged a protest march to Mamkoottathil’s office in Palakkad, the constituency he represents. Senior BJP leader C. Krishnakumar, who had finished second to Mamkoottathil in last year’s by-election, alleged that at least two complaints have now surfaced against the MLA.

“On Thursday, a female writer came out alleging inappropriate behaviour by him,” Krishnakumar claimed. The CPI(M) has also stepped in, with Palakkad district secretary Suresh Babu urging the Congress leadership to take “appropriate action” against the legislator.

The controversy first erupted when actress Rini Ann George alleged that a young leader of a prominent political party had misbehaved with her a few years ago. However, she refrained from naming the leader.

On Thursday, she reiterated her claim but declined to disclose the name, saying she was “not ready at the moment”. The issue has also sparked unrest within the faction-ridden Youth Congress. Calls emerged on Thursday in the organisation’s social media groups demanding clarity from the leadership.

Defending Mamkoottathil, Youth Congress leader V.P. Dulkiphil told reporters, “At the moment, there is only an allegation without any name mentioned. Anyone can level allegations. We all know how wild charges once targeted our topmost leader. After his passing, he was glorified, but his family had suffered greatly due to baseless attacks.”

Meanwhile, DYFI leader V.K. Sanoj said the Leader of Opposition in the Kerala Assembly, V.D. Satheesan, could no longer remain silent. “This woman is already facing cyberattacks. She was a former journalist, and everyone knows who she is pointing to,” Sanoj said. With the issue gaining political traction, the ball is now in the court of the state Congress unit.

Kerala Youth Congress state president and Palakkad MLA Rahul Mamkoottathil has been hit by fresh allegations after the release of an audio clip in which he is allegedly heard pressuring a young woman to undergo an abortion.

The audio, aired on Malayalam news channel Reporter TV and widely circulated on social media, features a conversation where Rahul reportedly questions how the child would be raised without a father and presses the woman to terminate the pregnancy. The woman is heard refusing and insisting she would take care of the child herself.

Political commentators and opponents have described the clip as proof of coercion. Critics said the conversation revealed attempts by Rahul to avoid responsibility and force the woman into terminating her pregnancy, despite health risks.

It is reported that this audio portion is part of a longer conversation as well as WhatsApp chats, which they claim further implicates the MLA. They alleged that while Rahul has previously faced accusations of misconduct, this revelation is the most serious to emerge so far.

News18 Malayalam reports that Mamkoottathil has resigned from his post, reportedly submitting his resignation to the Congress national leadership. Sources say the resignation was also conveyed to KPCC president Sunny Joseph over the phone.

The resignation comes after revelations on social media sparked calls for his removal. Party insiders indicate that KM Abhijith may be given temporary charge of the Youth Congress state unit in Rahul’s place.

It is reported that several women leaders of the party had filed complaints against Rahul with AICC general secretary Deepadas Munshi, who oversees the state, with six separate complaints received so far.

This comes after Expatriate writer Honey Bhaskaran accused  Mamkoottathil of harassment and misusing private conversations with women to malign them publicly. In a detailed Facebook post, Honey alleged that Rahul initiated Instagram chats during her Sri Lanka trip in June, later distorting their nature to present her as pursuing him. She claimed Rahul has a history of similar behavior toward multiple women, including Youth Congress workers, and accused Congress MP Shafi Parambil of ignoring repeated complaints against him.

Honey urged women to speak out and demanded Rahul resign from politics. The controversy follows several other complaints, with over nine reportedly reaching the AICC. aPolitical reactions include BJP protests demanding his resignation and criticism from CPI(M). The Congress leadership has sought explanations, with the AICC requesting a report from KPCC, while KPCC chief Sunny Joseph emphasized no concrete complaints warrant immediate action, though deliberations continue regarding Rahul’s position ahead of elections.

Expatriate writer Honey Bhaskaran has publicly accused Kerala Youth Congress state president and Palakkad MLA Rahul Mamkoottathil of harassment and misusing conversations with women to malign their character. In a detailed Facebook post, Honey alleged that Rahul attempted to initiate conversations with her on social media and later misrepresented them to others in a derogatory manner.

Honey claimed that Rahul has a history of similar behavior toward multiple women, including Youth Congress workers, and accused Congress MP Shafi Parambil of shielding him despite receiving several complaints.

She wrote (translated from Malayalam via Google Translate), “Rahul Mamkoottathil – An Experience.

I don’t know you personally. I don’t know any of your personal issues until the news comes out with your female subjects in the media these past days. Until then, there was no understanding of personal matters other than your non-exemplary actions in politics.
Whenever I go on a trip, people who are travel lovers always come looking for information about that trip and the country to travel. I use to say this too.
When there are no lifelong enemies in politics, I am not the kind of person who sees them as disagreements when someone from another politics comes to talk to me, I am not that kind of person who dares to insult and post against him. My political correctness is that I can deal with people who interfere decently even in the midst of political disagreements. Awareness.
This June 9th. The time when I was traveling to Sri Lanka. You first came to my insta messenger that day. Your beginning was by sending a heart to my photo, rushing for the details of the journey. Since I told you that you have plan to go to Sri Lanka, I explained it to you without any prejudices. Later you bet on the Nilambur election that the left candidate will lose.
Saw the sequence of your messages when I looked in the morning. I didn’t give you a reply and encouraged you because I smelled chicken pox from it that I didn’t intend to stop the chat. That chat ended there because I didn’t reply.
That was my first and last communication with you.
Although I realized that my understanding of the day was not wrong while women who have faced your exploitative attempts in various ways are openly expressing their experiences, I’m not mature enough to insult a decent conversation.
But it was yesterday that I knew the porn story behind you chatting me. That too through one of your buddies in Youth Congress. What a low class person he is.
That is also the reason for this post.
When you shamelessly told your friends in Youth Congress that I came over and chatted with you and this is normal. The thing that shocked me even more is the fact that you had that conversation sitting in the middle of those poultry fields. Those chickens haven’t known what you wrote or who came first for the conversation.
When another Congress worker in Kozhikattangal believed what you said, the leader who always walks with his hand on your shoulder told this to a friend of mine, the person replied with a heavy kintel back.
My friend, even though he works in the same congress movement as yours, he has not stooped to stand in queue to meet with a political garbage like you. He replied with my political consciousness.
Go out there and talk to women, Mindy, people need to know the psycho in you who misrepresent their conversations between perverts. That’s what this post is for.
I am a person who has written my disagreements with you politically in harsh language on my wall without mercy. Even the Nilambur election post has said about the fake in you. Hey spider mammoonje, you don’t have a little shame to say such bad things about me….
It is clear from this that the one who laughs with a smile while sitting in the crowd and mocking women.
I feel awe and pity for the women in your own party that you have interacted with recently. How many obscenities would you have sung in these sexually impoverished groups when you mentioned the women you directly interacted with? You can imagine how scared the women who shared their privacy with you must have been to keep quiet.
What a Youth Congress activist said today is that Shafi Parambil has a clear understanding of all the perverts in Youth Congress including you. He who goes to the legislative assembly and makes big speeches for women doesn’t listen to a single complaint filed by Youth Congress activists against the women trainees of Youth Congress. Even the complaint given by that woman has not been listened to. They are not writing just because they are Congress activists. How many times must have been told like this about this gang of scoundrels?
Those who are more disgusting than the one who committed a molester who once spoke, walked with, trusted, and shared their privacy or create stories like their mental disability. Women trapped in trauma will be so devastated by those colorized stories that can never come out of. The danger of such male groups to women is not small. They have no apologies. Does not deserve a decent reply.
They are too dishonest species that they can’t even be approached in an area where women go to stay in politics. Such people coming into political sequences will make the word politics anti-human.
So Rahul Mangoottam, the spider Mammoonje…
It’s not comrades who have personally convinced me that you are a complete political waste. Youth Congress activists who put their hands on your shoulders, sleep, dance, participate in fund theft and spend most of their day with you. How much you have understood your dishonesty, this must have reached me as a leftist through them?
I am adding to the comments because it is the biggest necessity for the women who are walking with you to know the liar in you even though the conversations you had with men are so fast and do not want to let them out.
If you have any sincerity left with your political movement other than drowning funds and female affairs, all you need to do is quit your political career. That is dignity…!”

What Are Her Allegations?

Honey stated that Rahul first messaged her on Instagram during his Sri Lanka trip in June.

She alleged that he later distorted the nature of the chat, projecting her as someone “following him,” and shared these misrepresentations with friends.

Honey said she was later informed by Youth Congress insiders about how Rahul spoke about her and other women.

According to her, many female colleagues within the Congress have faced similar experiences.

“Rahul tells every woman he approaches that he is not in a relationship with anyone else and that his love is only for her. Victims mistake this for genuine affection,” Honey wrote. She urged more women to speak out so that “no one else falls into this trap.”

Accusations Against Party Leadership

Honey further alleged that senior Congress leader Shafi Parambil has ignored multiple complaints against Rahul, despite being aware of his alleged misconduct. She accused the party of enabling “perverts within its ranks” while projecting itself as a champion of women’s rights.

She said, “What should disgust us more than the perpetrator are those who gossip about women’s private conversations and mental health struggles, traumatizing them further.”

Honey concluded by demanding that Rahul step down from politics, stating, “If Rahul has any sincerity left, he should end his political career. That would be the real honor.”

Growing List of Complaints

Honey’s post comes amid mounting allegations against Rahul from multiple quarters:

Actress and journalist Rini Ann George revealed that a prominent Youth Congress leader (implied to be Rahul) had behaved inappropriately with her, including inviting her to a five-star hotel. She claimed she reported the incident to senior leaders, but no action was taken.

Several women Youth Congress leaders have also reportedly complained internally about harassment, with more than nine complaints said to have reached the AICC.

Political Reactions

The BJP staged a protest in Palakkad, demanding Rahul’s resignation, while accusing the Congress of protecting him. The CPI(M) too has seized on the controversy, criticizing the Congress for inaction.

According to reports, the KPCC and AICC have sought explanations from Rahul. Discussions are ongoing within the party about whether he should step down as Youth Congress state president. As per a The New Indian Express report, the Congress leadership is considering removing Palakkad MLA Rahul Mamkoottathil from the post of Youth Congress state president. Sources said the AICC has sought a report from the KPCC, with senior leaders fearing Rahul’s continuation could harm the party’s image ahead of elections. Though discussions on replacing him had been held earlier, no action was taken. KPCC chief Sunny Joseph, however, maintained there are no concrete complaints to warrant immediate action and said decisions would follow thorough discussions.

Congress has drawn criticism and ridicule once again after posting a jab on social media aimed at Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s diplomatic visits to the United Kingdom and Maldives, both pre-scheduled engagements.

Attempting to suggest that the Prime Minister times his foreign trips to coincide with the start of Parliament sessions, the party posted on X on 23 July 2025 stating, “Parliament session has started and it’s vacation time for the 56-inch. Easy way to avoid tough questions. Such disrespect for the temple of democracy!”

However, this accusation doesn’t hold up under scrutiny. According to the PRS Legislative Research, the Prime Minister, as a minister, is not required to sign the Parliament attendance register. As such, no official attendance records exist for him as they do for regular Members of Parliament.

Union Minister for Parliamentary Affairs Kiren Rijiju also clarified that Prime Minister Modi maintains one of the highest participation rates in Parliament, attending sessions regularly except when abroad on official duty. Rijiju added that Modi is always present during Question Hour when matters related to his ministry are discussed.

Double Standards?

Critics also pointed out Congress’s double standards, highlighting that during Dr. Manmohan Singh’s tenure as Prime Minister, foreign trips during Parliament sessions were quite common. An RTI response from the Prime Minister’s Office revealed that 15 out of 36 of Dr. Singh’s foreign visits occurred while Parliament was in session.

In fact, a review of UPA-II’s record shows that the Prime Minister traveled abroad during eight out of the 11 Parliament sessions analyzed missing as many as 35 working days. In 2010 alone, during the Budget session, Dr. Singh undertook three separate foreign tours. During the winter session of that same year, he missed four days of proceedings while traveling to South Korea, Belgium, and Germany even as Parliament was stalled over the opposition’s demand for a JPC probe into the 2G spectrum scam.

In contrast to the Congress-led UPA government’s approach during challenging times, Prime Minister Narendra Modi, returned from his official two-nation visit, promptly joined the Rajya Sabha debate. He not only participated but also agreed to the Opposition’s demand for a 16-hour discussion on Operation Sindoor and its aftermath.

This historical context raises questions about the Congress’s current criticism and whether it overlooks its own party’s past practices.

Once again, the Congress has landed itself in controversy – this time it is their Kerala unit for sharing a distorted map of India. The Kerala Congress, through its official X account, posted a world map that wrongly showed Indian territory, including parts of Jammu and Kashmir, as ceded to China and Pakistan.

After facing severe backlash, the Kerala Congress quietly deleted the post without offering any apology and later reuploaded it with the corrected map.

This isn’t the first time Congress has stirred controversy by misrepresenting India’s map. On 27 June 2025, the Tamil Nadu Congress Committee Research Department faced severe backlash for using distorted maps in its brochures and pamphlets depicting parts of Jammu and Kashmir as ceded to China and Pakistan. The map was later corrected following public outrage.

The cover of a booklet titled “Jumla Government’s False Facts and Realities”, published by the TNCC Research Department, depicted Pakistan-Occupied Kashmir (PoK) as part of Pakistan and Aksai Chin as part of China.

Just days before that, on 18 June 2025, the Congress had shared yet another controversial post featuring a map that showed Pakistan, including PoK territory lawfully claimed by India. The post, aimed at criticizing Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s foreign policy, was captioned, “Narendra Modi has ruined the foreign policy,” alongside a video containing the erroneous map.

The repeated use of such maps drew fierce condemnation. Critics accused the Congress of echoing anti-national narratives and aligning with Pakistani territorial claims. Following strong reactions from the public and political rivals, the posts were quietly taken down again, without any formal explanation or apology from the party.
