An interview of DMK Environment Wing Secretary Karthikeya Sivasenapathy has gone viral with viewers expressing frustration over the DMK’s attitude towards terror threats and minority appeasement politics.

In the interview, DMK leader Karthikeya Sivasenapathy reflects this attitude, in his casual reactions towards the cylinder blast by a suspected Islamist, near a temple in Tamil Nadu’s Coimbatore.

In the audio visual footage, the DMK minister is heard telling the interviewer that the Coimbatore cylinder blast that happened outside the Kottai Eswaran temple by a suspected Islamist, is being made into a big issue over nothing at all.

He belittled the issue that was investigated for possible links to an Islamic terror group, saying that that the suspicious cylinder blast is being talked about because people have nothing else to discuss.

He is heard repeatedly saying that the chemicals found at the residence of the now deceased Jamesa Mubin, were common ones that can be purchased by anyone in the state, in particular Ammonium Nitrate, and went on to imply that it could’ve been used for agricultural purposes.

The interviewer reminds the DMK leader that, it is of course not a question of just one chemical or two but the significant quantities of certain chemicals procured and the specific combination of such chemical compounds, that have the potential to turn deadly when brought together under certain conditions. The state police had earlier stated that they had recovered chemicals like potassium nitrate, aluminium, and sulfur, which are used to make crude bombs, at the accused’s residence.

However, Karthikeya Sivasenapathy continues to sound nonchalant and makes light of it by challenging the interviewer on whether an explosive substance like RDX was found.

He dismisses the facts of the worrisome case and repeatedly makes a silly excuse for the large quantity of specific chemicals discovered by the police, as being common agricultural essentials.

Shockingly, the DMK MLA Karthikeya Sivasenapathy, goes on record, displaying brazen minority appeasement, as he continued to ignore facts of the case.

Aside from a significant quantity of the chemicals discovered at the residence of the accused, the police had also recovered nails and ball bearings from the spot where the explosion happened.

The cylinder blast had occurred at a Coimbatore temple on Sunday 23 Oct 2022, a day before the Hindu festival of Diwali. The suspected terrorist Jameesa Mubin, died in the explosion. Police investigation, has since led to the arrests of five persons known to be Islamist sympathizers. The Tamil Nadu government has handed over the case to the National Investigative Agency (NIA).

Karthikeya Sivasenapathy first shot to fame during the Marina Jallikattu (traditional bull fighting tradition of TN ) protests in 2017. He was one of the people instrumental in organising the protest against the BJP-led central government, over the ban on Jallikattu in Tamil Nadu, which successfully ended in an ordinance passed by the then AIADMK government, allowing the sport.

At the time, his protest was positively received in Tamil Nadu, but critics had questioned a possible ulterior motive with Karthikeya’s open support of the DMK and the Congress party, in spite of the actions leading up to the Jallikattu protest, having been initiated and supported by members of the Congress party. It was Jairam Ramesh of Congress, that added bulls to the “No Sport” list and it was A. Raja of the DMK, who had made recommendations for animal welfare organization, PeTA (People for the Ethical Treatment of Animals) to register as an NGO in India. It was Congress party advocates, Nalini Chidambaram and Abhishek Singhvi, who appeared in the court to support the Jallikattu ban in the first place.

Karthikeya Sivasenapathy, DMK’s Environment Wing Secretary who is known for peddling half-truths and lies had recently posted about BJP Tamil Nadu President K. Annamalai attributing his achievements to reservation, DMK, Karunanidhi, and what not.

The DMK leader in his post said that Annamalai could become an engineer becauase of DMK and its late patriarch Karunanidhi saying that Mr. Annamalai’s community was given backward class status in 1974 by the DMK.

He further added that Annamalai got admission in IIM Lucknow due to the reservation policy that came in force through the Mandal Commission.

His success in the prestigious civil service examination was also attributed to DMK and Karunanidhi.

However, records reveal that Mr. Annamalai had obtained his credentials through merit and not through quota.

Annamalai had passed the civil services examination in the year 2011. According to the results accessed from Union Public Service Commission’s website by a Twitter user, the cut-off for general category for the Civil Service Mains exam conducted in 2010 was 904 for a grand total of 2000. Mr. Annamalai’s score was 970 out of 2000.

Adding the marks secured in the interview, Annamalai had scored 1183/2300 while the general category cut-off was 1134.

In the UPSC exams, if a reserved candidate avails any one of the relaxations for the reserved category at any stage of the exam, he/she would be eligible only for a reserved category seat.

Mr. Annamalai had breached the general category cut-off in the prelims as well. He succeeded without availing any of the relaxations for the reserved candidates and secured an unreserved seat.

This is not the first time that the DMK leader who is also a self-proclaimed environmentalist has resorted to peddling false information.

Earlier, Sivasenapathy had peddled outright lies about Tamil Nadu’s economy attributing the growth of the state to DMK regime.

Karthikeya Sivasenapathy, a habitual liar was once again caught lying through his teeth when it was revealed that he joined the DMK just a few days back.

News channels belonging to the DMK (Sun News and Kalaignar Seithigal) on November 5 announced that the founder and managing trustee of Senaapathy Kangayam Cattle Research Foundation joined the DMK.

However, Karthikeya Sivasenapathy in September of this year claimed to be a DMK member since 1996 in response to a tweet by Tamil Nadu BJP Vice President K. Annamalai.

Although he is known for eulogizing the most corrupt party of Tamil Nadu – the DMK, he had kept his associations with the DMK clandestine for a long time.

During the Jallikattu protests, in which Tamil Nadu youngsters had barred all political parties from participating, this man like a fox clandestinely entered the scene hiding about his DMK affiliation and hijacked the protest to spread anti-Modi and anti-AIADMK rhetoric when both these parties had nothing to do with the ban of the sport whatsoever. The Jallikattu protest which started as a student led protest against PETA was hijacked by this man for his own popularity. He portrayed himself as the saviour of Jallikattu and has since then become a prominent face gaining some youngsters as followers on social media.

Recently, he posted about the state of Tamil Nadu’s economy on his twitter page which did not have an iota of truth in it. The post was ditto copied from the tweet of Suresh Sambandam, another DMK apologist. The lies peddled by Karthikeya Sivasenapathy was busted by The Commune in this article.

Many who come across as ‘social activists’ today, seem to be agents of the DMK. They emerge either as tacit supporters of the party by masquerading as ‘social activists’ or they are very open about it. Then there are the likes of Karthikeya Sivasenapathy who lie through their teeth for their survival.

However, his cloak dropped off when he tried to act smart on Twitter while responding to Tamil Nadu BJP Vice President and former IPS officer K. Annamalai. Just a few days before that, he had called on DMK chief MK Stalin’s son and the party’s youth wing secretary ‘actor’ Udhayanidhi Stalin, probably to pitch himself as a probable MLA candidate.

After Dharmapuri DMK MP Senthilkumar backed off from an open debate with Annamalai citing parliament session as a reason, Karthikeya Sivasenapathy jumped-in in an attempt to save the DMK’s face. In a Tamil Youtube channel started by Senthil, one of the expelled news anchors from News 18 Tamil Nadu, Sivasenapathy had challenged for a debate with Annamalai. However, Annamalai had politely declined saying that he was looking forward to engage with a member who wants to represent people and work for the state.

To this, Sivasenapathy had tweeted to Annamalai that if the latter could arrange a debate between him and Prime Minister Modi, he would be obliged to arrange the same with ‘his party leader’ and Annamalai. He also added that he was a DMK member since 1996.

Also, the post was ditto copied from the tweet of Suresh Sambandam who has become the DMK’s new poster boy after his interview with Neeya Naana Gopinath became viral.

However, netizens were quick enough to point out that the data and information shared were nothing but outright lies.

A person named Purushothaman has researched the information given on the official website of the Government of India and proved with evidence that whatever has been peddled by these two people is nothing but lie.

Tamil Nadu has always been ahead of rest of the country for a long time in history. Especially during the British period, the development of Tamil Nadu (then Madras Presidency which included Andhra, parts of Karnataka, Kerala and extended upto Odisha) was as good as that of Bombay and Bengal Presidencies. But DMK sympathizers who are good at telling stories portray as if the state owes its growth to DMK.

Here are few numbers to put things in perspective.

The DMK sympathizers claim that the GDP of Tamil Nadu had grown from $0.34 billion in 1970 to $260 billion today, 764 times, while India grew only 47 times from $62 billion to $2.9 trillion. However, this is a totally flawed comparison. If in 1970 Tamil Nadu GDP was $0.34 billion and India’s GDP was $62 billion, Tamil Nadu’s share in Indian GDP turns out to be only 0.5% which cannot be the case.

Official statistics available with the Government of India show that in 1970-71, India’s GDP (at factor cost) was ₹44382 crores, while Tamil Nadu’s GDP was ₹2371 crores i.e., Tamil Nadu contributed 5.3% to India’s GDP.

Suresh has cleverly/ignorantly taken Tamil Nadu’s GDP at factor cost and India’s GDP at nominal value to draw comparisons. It is basic economics knowledge that one cannot compare GDP at factor cost with nominal GDP. (Once again, Mr. Suresh proves that he is a certified Murasoli reader.)

So, in essence, during the first 15 years of DMK rule, Bihar’s growth rate was slightly higher than that of Tamil Nadu. This seems to have continued until 2000.

The growth of Tamil Nadu post the 1990s has been due to the liberalization, privatization and globalisation reforms brought about by the Narasimha Rao government at the Centre. Thankfully, the state was when India was liberalized the state was governed by AIADMK supremo J. Jayalalithaa.

Seen in that light, all the southern states have grown since liberalization. The development of Tamil Nadu should not always be compared with other northern states simply because the southern states have had a geographical (coastline) and historical advantage. It is good that we serve as a benchmark for several states. But one should not boast about oneself and demean the efforts of others. Tamil Nadu should be looking up European and Scandinavian countries and not look back to see how far we are ahead of other states.

It is not to say that nothing happened during the DMK rule. Yes, every government had contributed its fair share to the state’s prosperity. But to say that Tamil Nadu owes its development to one party and one leader who was known for scientific corruption is just humbug.
