Telangana police on Tuesday, 16 December 2025, issued a detailed clarification on the identities and background of the father and son involved in the mass shooting at Bondi Beach in Sydney, Australia, during a Hanukkah celebration on 14 December 2025, which left 16 people dead. One of the attackers was also killed during the incident, which Australian authorities have classified as a terrorist attack inspired by ISIS ideology.

The attackers were identified as Sajid Akram, aged 50, and his son Naveed Akram, aged 24. Australian police and government authorities have confirmed that further investigation into the incident is ongoing.

According to a press note issued by the Telangana Police, Sajid Akram originally hailed from Hyderabad and completed a Bachelor of Commerce degree in the city before migrating to Australia in November 1998 in search of employment opportunities. He subsequently married Venere Grosso, a woman of European origin, and settled permanently in Australia. The couple had two children – Naveed Akram, who was the other terrorist who did the attack, and a daughter. While Sajid Akram continues to hold an Indian passport, both his son and daughter were born in Australia and are Australian citizens.

The press note stated that Sajid Akram had maintained limited contact with his relatives in Hyderabad over the past 27 years. After relocating to Australia, he reportedly visited India on six occasions, primarily for family-related matters such as property issues and visits to his elderly parents. It was also noted that he did not travel to India at the time of his father’s death.

Family members in India told the police that they had no knowledge of Sajid Akram holding extremist views or engaging in radical or terrorist activities, nor were they aware of the circumstances that may have led to his radicalisation.

Based on preliminary findings, the Telangana Police stated that the factors contributing to the radicalisation of Sajid Akram and his son Naveed appeared to have no connection with India or with any local influences in Telangana. The police further clarified that there was no adverse record against Sajid Akram during his stay in India prior to his departure in 1998.

The Telangana Police said it is continuing to cooperate fully with central agencies and other relevant authorities, as required, and urged the public and media to refrain from speculation or attribution without verified facts.

Australian authorities have said that the incident remains under investigation and that additional details would be released as inquiries progress.

Mitr Clinic, India’s first transgender healthcare center, has ceased operations following a funding freeze imposed by former U.S. President Donald Trump. The closure comes in the wake of a 90-day suspension of all U.S. foreign assistance, including over $40 billion allocated through the United States Agency for International Development (USAID).

The funding halt has impacted numerous global initiatives, including Project ACCELERATE, under which Mitr Clinic operated. The project, backed by USAID and the United States President’s Emergency Plan for AIDS Relief (PEPFAR), provided healthcare services to the transgender community. Mitr Clinic offered free general health consultations, HIV counselling and screening, STI treatment, mental health support, gender affirmation services, and assistance with legal and social protection schemes.

Rachana, a trans health expert associated with the clinic, confirmed that operations were suspended soon after the funding cut was announced in late January. “We were informed that the U.S. President had announced a halt to our clinic’s funding, and since then, the clinic has been shut,” she said to The Hindu.

Established in January 2021 in Hyderabad’s Narayanguda, Mitr Clinic expanded to Pune and Thane following its initial success. However, the future of these centers remains uncertain. As of January 2025, the Hyderabad clinic employed seven transgender individuals and served 150–200 LGBTQIA+ members each month. The abrupt closure has left staff unemployed and deprived a vulnerable community of critical healthcare services.

Until June 2024, the clinic had registered over 4,900 clients, with a significant focus on addressing the HIV burden among transgender individuals. Data revealed a 6% HIV positivity rate, with 83% of diagnosed patients receiving antiretroviral therapy (ART).

Political Fallout Over USAID Funding In India

The funding freeze has sparked political controversy in India, with authorities now investigating allegations that USAID spent $21 million to influence Indian elections. The claim, based on a report by the Department of Government Efficiency led by Elon Musk, has fueled debates over foreign interference in India’s internal affairs.

Additionally, U.S. Senator John Kennedy recently questioned why American taxpayer money was funding programs such as Mitr Clinic. In a public speech, he criticized USAID’s financial allocations, stating, “USAID gave money to support electric vehicles in Vietnam with our taxpayers’ money. USAID gave money to a transgender clinic in India. I didn’t know that. I bet the American people didn’t know that. Musk also found that USD 1.5 million was given to Serbian LGBT organisations. They got the money to advance diversity, equity and inclusion in Serbian workplaces and business communities.”

A temple in Shamshabad on the outskirts of Hyderabad was vandalised on Tuesday, police said. When the priest of the temple in Airport Colony came in the morning to perform daily rituals, he found idols vandalised.

Alerted by the priest and the locals, the police rushed to the spot and began investigations. The police suspect the miscreants entered the temple and vandalised it late Monday night.

On receiving the information, local BJP leaders also reached the temple and demanded stringent punishment for those involved. The police have reportedly picked up a suspect and were questioning him.

The latest incident came nearly three weeks after an act of vandalism at Muthyalamma temple in Secunderabad.

On October 14, a man barged into Sri Muthyalamma Temple located at Kummarguda, in the Market Police Station limits and damaged the idol. Locals caught hold of him, thrashed him and later handed him over to police.

As the accused was critically injured, he was admitted to a hospital. Two days later, police revealed that the accused was Salman Salim Thakur alias Salman, a native of Mumbra, Near Mumbai.

The police investigations revealed that the 30-year-old came to Hyderabad in October to attend a month-long personality development workshop.

Last week, the accused was produced in the court, which sent him to judicial custody. The vandalism had triggered protests by VHP, Bajrang Dal and other organisations.

The Hyderabad police have filed charges against well-known Mumbai-based motivational speaker Munawar Zama and two others for allegedly inciting religious hatred following the recent vandalism at the Muthyalamma temple in Kummariguda, Secunderabad. The other accused, Abdul Rasheed Basheer Ahmed and Rehman, the manager and proprietor of Metropolis Hotel in Regimental Bazaar, allegedly assisted Zama in organizing a workshop that encouraged enmity against Hindus.

Zama, a motivational speaker and the founder of English House Academy, organized a month-long personality development workshop at the hotel, attracting 151 participants from across India. Police allege that under the guise of teaching skills such as functional grammar, communication, public speaking, confidence building, and character development, Zama and his associates fostered an environment of hatred towards Hindus. The investigation revealed that Zama used the workshop to incite violence and hostility between religious communities.

The incident came to light after Salman Salim Thakur, one of the attendees in the workshop, stormed into the Muthyalamma temple on 14 October 2024 and vandalized the idol of Goddess Durga. According to the police, Salman, who was radicalized by watching videos of Islamic preachers, including fugitive Zakir Naik, was arrested on 16 October 2024. Locals caught Salman in the act, beat him up, and handed him over to the authorities. He is currently receiving treatment in a city hospital.

Zama, who has a strong social media presence with over 3.63 million subscribers on YouTube and millions of followers on Instagram and Facebook, has been accused of directly provoking Salman to commit the act of vandalism. The workshop, held at the Metropolis Hotel, was reportedly organized without official permission, and the hotel’s 49 rooms were reserved entirely for the event’s attendees.

L. Suresh, sub-inspector of Gopalapuram police station, stated that Zama directly incited Salman to carry out the temple attack. Additionally, police are now scrutinizing recordings of the workshop, materials distributed to participants, and the backgrounds of those involved.

The police initiated suo motu action against Zama, Basheer, and Rehman, booking them under various sections of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS), including Sections 299 (deliberate insult or outrage of religious feelings), 192 (malicious provocation with intent to incite riots), 196 (promoting enmity between groups on religious grounds), 223 (disobeying public servant orders), and 49 (abetment to commit a crime).

The investigation is ongoing, with authorities continuing to verify the involvement of other participants and further examine the content shared during the workshop.

The Legal Rights Protection Forum has lodged a formal complaint against American evangelist William Samuel Winston, also known as Bill Winston, accusing him of violating Indian visa regulations. The complaint, addressed to the Foreigners Regional Registration Officer in Hyderabad and copied to the Ministry of Home Affairs, raises concerns about Winston’s participation in religious activities during his upcoming visit to Hyderabad.

According to the complaint, Winston, who is scheduled to attend the ‘Hyderabad Faith Conference’ from October 18 to 21, 2024, at the SVIT College Auditorium, Secunderabad, is a regular guest at the event organized by Kings Temple Church. The forum claims that Winston, an international pastor and founder of Bill Winston Ministries in the United States, has been attending this conference as the chief guest and principal speaker since 2010, allegedly violating Indian visa rules.

As per Section 14(b) of the Foreigners Act of 1946, foreign nationals are prohibited from participating in religious activities in India under most types of visas. Tension prevailed at the Telangana Bhavan on Monday as clashes broke out when the Congress workers tried to lay siege to the Bharat Rashtra Samithi (BRS) headquarters. Protesting against certain remarks made by BRS leaders on social media about state Minister Konda Surekha, the Congress workers reached the Telangana Bhavan but were stopped by the BRS supporters.

There were heated arguments between both groups. Soon this led to a clash, triggering tension in the area. Some of the protestors were chased and thrashed by the other group. Police intervened to disperse the clashing groups and brought the situation under control. The Congress workers were also agitated over the BRS leaders allegedly running a campaign to mislead people about the activities of the Hyderabad Disaster Response and Asset Protection Agency (HYDRAA). The clash between the workers of the two parties took place amid a war of words between the two parties over the government’s project for the conservation and beautification of the Musi River.

A survey by the authorities in Musi River Full Tank Level (FTL) and buffer zone to identify illegal structures had triggered protests by the people who are likely to be displaced. The BRS has extended full support to the residents of the areas along the Musi River. BRS Working President K.T. Rama Rao once again lashed out at the Congress government for planning to demolish the houses and declared that BRS would stand by the poor.

Meanwhile, All India Majlis-e-Ittehadul Muslimeen (AIMIM) staged a protest at Bahadurpura against the proposed move to demolish the structures in Musi FTL and the buffer zone. Carrying AIMIM flags and raising slogans, the AIMIM leaders staged the protest at the office of Mandal Revenue Officer (MRO), Bahadurpura. The protestors were raising slogans of ‘HYDRAA Hatao Ghar Bachao’. Police arrested the protestors including four corporators of the AIMIM and shifted them to Falaknuma Police Station.

The liberation of Hyderabad in 1948 marks a significant chapter in India’s post-independence history. This event, often overshadowed by the broader narrative of India’s independence and partition, played a crucial role in shaping the modern Indian nation-state. The struggle to integrate Hyderabad into the Indian Union in 1948 involved complex political manoeuvring, social upheaval, and, ultimately, military action.

The State of Hyderabad was renamed by the fifth Qutb Shahi Sultan of Golconda, Mohammad Quli (r. 1580-1612). It is located on the banks of the Musi River. On 21 September 1687, the Golconda Sultanate came under the rule of the Mughal emperor Aurangzeb, and Mir Qamruudin Chin Qilich Khan, the son of Aurangzeb’s General Ghaziuddin Khan Feroz Jang, became the ruler of the state, claiming ancestry to the first Khalifa, Abu Bakr.

The Princely State Of Hyderabad

Hyderabad was the last remnant of the Mughal empire, occupying a pivotal geopolitical position surrounded by central provinces in the north, Bombay in the west, and Madras in the east and south. It was a premier state with a population of approximately 16 million, an annual revenue of Rs 26 crore, and an area of 82,000 square miles, even having its currency.

Despite Hyderabad’s premier status, the British administration did not treat it differently from other states, a point of frustration for the Nizam. Although 85% of the state’s population were Hindus, they were denied civil, police, and army positions, which were reserved for Muslims. Even in the 132-member Legislative Assembly set up by the Nizam, Muslims held the majority.

The Nizam’s Resistance

After the announcement of the British Government’s 3rd June Plan for the formation of two states, Bharat and Pakistan, the Nizam of Hyderabad, Osman Ali Khan, Asaf Jah VII, issued a firman declaring Hyderabad’s intent to become an independent sovereign state, refusing to send representatives to either constituent assembly. He dispatched a delegation, led by the Nawab of Chhatari, to meet Lord Mountbatten, requesting the retrocession of Berar to Hyderabad and Dominion status.

Mountbatten rejected both requests, stating that Berar was integrated with the central provinces and that any change in the status quo would require the people’s consent. Similarly, Dominion status was denied as the British government would only recognize either of the two new dominions. With these rejections, the delegation returned to Hyderabad empty-handed.

Lord Mountbatten, hopeful for Hyderabad’s accession to Bharat, suggested that the Nizam be given more time to educate the 15% Muslim minority, who held most top positions. On 8th August, the Nizam again wrote to Mountbatten, reiterating his desire not to accede to Bharat but rather to negotiate a treaty with conditions for autonomy, particularly the privilege of not aligning with Bharat in the event of war with Pakistan.

After multiple rounds of negotiations, in November 1947, Hyderabad signed a standstill agreement with Bharat, continuing previous arrangements but excluding the stationing of Bharatiya troops in the state. However, with the rise of the militant *Razakars*, who supported the Nizam’s desire to establish an independent Islamic state, the lives of the Hindu majority worsened. To curb the Razakar menace, Bharat took punitive action in September 1948, leading to Nizam’s surrender and Hyderabad remaining with Bharat.

Role Of Majlis-I-Ittehad-ul-Muslimeen (MIM) & Razakars In Nizam’s Administration

During the rule of Mir Osman Ali Khan, the last Nizam of Hyderabad, a fanatical organization known as Majlis-I-Ittehad-ul-Muslimeen (MIM) gained significant influence over state affairs. Though the Nizam held nominal power, it was the leadership of the MIM that dominated key decisions. Formed in 1926 by Mahamad Nawaz Khan, the MIM aimed to unite Muslims, both local and outsiders, under one banner to create an independent Muslim state—Azad Hyderabad. Over time, the MIM became a vehicle for non-local Muslims to exert influence, creating tension between local Muslims (Mulki) and non-locals (non-Mulki), who often controlled key administrative posts.

By 1927, Bahaduryar Jung took leadership of the MIM, and under his guidance, the organization became a force that sought to transform Hyderabad into a Muslim state. This movement alienated moderate Muslims, Arya Samaj, and nationalist groups like the Hindu Mahasabha. The MIM’s increasingly radical stance shocked these groups, leading to heightened communal tensions in Hyderabad. Bahaduryar Jung’s sudden death in 1944 briefly placed Abdul Hasan, a moderate, in charge of the MIM. However, Hasan’s moderate stance and sympathy for organizations like Arya Samaj were seen as a threat by the Nizam. Consequently, in 1946, Kasim Razvi was appointed the MIM leader.

The Rise Of Razakars And Their Influence

Kasim Razvi, a lawyer from Maharashtra, transformed the MIM into a more aggressive force by organizing the Razakars, a paramilitary group of fervent Muslims loyal to the idea of Azad Hyderabad. Established in 1947, the Razakars pledged to fight for the MIM’s vision of an independent Hyderabad under Muslim rule, and Razvi proclaimed that Muslims were the rightful rulers of the state. His influence over state affairs grew, so he controlled appointments in the state cabinet and police force. Razvi and his followers forced the retirement of Shia officials, giving Sunni Muslims dominance in the administration. Razvi’s key ally, Syed Taqiuddin, was placed in charge of the intelligence network, and the police minister, Moin Nawaz Jung, was forced to hand over arms to the Razakars.

Razvi’s Razakars were highly organized and well-armed. By 1948, there were 30,000 Razakars in Hyderabad, which grew to 100,000 by July and August. These forces were stationed at various strategic points across the Hyderabad State, including in the districts of Bidar, Gulbarga, Raichur, and Karnataka, each boasting thousands of trained volunteers. The Razakars had access to a large arsenal, including rifles, Sten guns, and machine guns, and were supported by a transport network of trucks and jeeps. The MIM also used the Hyderabad state radio and press to propagate their message, with newspapers and weeklies publishing Razvi’s speeches.

Razakars’ Atrocities And Reign Of Terror

The Razakars’ reign of terror, especially between 1947 and 1948, was characterized by violence and atrocities, particularly against the Hindu population in Hyderabad. They organized public processions to intimidate Hindus, tortured members of nationalist groups such as Arya Samaj, Hindu Mahasabha, and the State Congress and attacked towns and villages. The Razakars also engaged in looting, arson, and the collection of revenues from villagers. They committed heinous crimes such as raping and murdering men and women, burning down shops, and forcibly converting Hindus to Islam.

One of the most brutal incidents occurred in the village of Gorta, where Razakars killed hundreds of villagers, including pregnant women and children, in a massacre that left the town devastated. Similar atrocities were reported across other villages in the Hyderabad-Karnataka region, where Razakars were murdered, looted, and raped with impunity. In Gulbarga district alone, 42 people were killed in Aland on one occasion. In Raichur, villages such as Koppal, Kolur, and Belagatti were repeatedly attacked, with homes set ablaze and wealth looted. Women were not spared, with many choosing to commit suicide rather than face rape and molestation by the Razakars.

Opposition Political Parties & Resistance

Despite the Razakars’ brutality, opposition to the Nizam’s regime grew, spearheaded by various political organizations. The Arya Samaj, active since 1892, was a key voice against the Nizam’s communal policies. In 1938, the Nizam attempted to suppress Arya Samaj by issuing decrees that restricted its religious practices, leading to a Satyagraha that intensified the divide between Hindus and Muslims in the state. The Hyderabad State Congress, founded in the same year, sought responsible governance under the Nizam but was also dedicated to opposing his oppressive regime. It supported merging Hyderabad with India, and its activities increased in 1947 after India’s independence.

Nizam’s Struggle For Independence & Suppression Of Dissent

In an attempt to maintain his control, the Nizam declared Hyderabad an independent state in 1947, refusing to accede to either India or Pakistan. He played on communal fears, claiming that Hindus would be upset if Hyderabad joined Pakistan, and Muslims would not accept its merger with India. However, the majority Hindu population of Hyderabad desired integration with India. The Nizam, in turn, intensified his repressive measures, using the police and Razakars to crush any dissent. Satyagrahis were lathi-charged, imprisoned, and subjected to inhumane treatment in jail. Many political prisoners faced brutal violence, while students boycotted schools to join the freedom movement.

Role Of RSS And Local Resistance

The Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh (RSS) also played a significant role in opposing the Nizam’s regime. In 1946, RSS members in Warangal town defied the Nizam by singing patriotic songs and hoisting the Indian tricolour flag. As Razakar violence spread, local youth in districts such as Bidar, Raichur, and Gulbarga took up arms to protect their villages. They organized guerrilla-style resistance against the Razakars, killing many of them and driving back Nizam’s forces. These acts of resistance became folk tales, with women singing songs about the bravery of local heroes who stood up to the Razakars.

The atrocities committed by the Razakars during the final years of the Nizam’s rule left a deep scar on the population of Hyderabad. By the time of India’s independence in 1947, the Hyderabad state had become a theatre of violence and communal strife, with Razakars and opposition groups locked in a bitter struggle. Ultimately, the Nizam’s ambitions of maintaining an independent Hyderabad were crushed when the Indian government launched “Operation Polo” in September 1948, bringing Hyderabad into the Indian Union and ending the reign of terror imposed by Razvi and the Razakars.

Protests erupted in Hyderabad, Telangana, following the vandalism of a goddess idol at the Bhoolaxmi Temple in Rakshapuram, Santosh Nagar police station area on the night of August 26, 2024. The attack occurred around 11:30 PM, during Krishna Janmashtami, and has ignited significant public outrage. Locals believe the assault was aimed at disturbing communal peace and disrupting the upcoming Ganesh festival.

As news of the vandalism spread, a large crowd of Hindus, including members of Vishwa Hindu Parishad (VHP) and other Hindutva organizations, gathered at the Bhoolaxmi temple. They chanted bhajans and slogans, blocking Rakshapuram Road and demanding immediate action. The group said the attackers were targeting the historic temple, which has seen multiple attacks over the past five years. They reported that four FIRs have been filed previously for similar incidents.

In response to the escalating situation, Hyderabad police deployed the Task Force and CAR police to restore order in the Santosh Nagar area. Senior officials announced the arrest of two suspects believed to be involved in the attack.

In an unusual development, a local Muslim leader has presented two individuals accused of vandalism to the police. There is confusion about whether the police are investigating the case or the claims made by the local leader, who identified one suspect as mentally unstable, raising concerns about the motives behind the incident.

Several Hindu and BJP leaders, including Hyderabad BJP MP candidate Kompella Madhavi Latha, visited the vandalized Bhoolaxmi temple. She voiced her concern on social media, condemning the attack as an assault on Hindu sentiments and demanding immediate justice.

Madhavi Latha stated, “In the old city of Hyderabad, within the Chandrayangutta Assembly constituency, specifically in the Rakshapuram area, I’m providing these details so that the entire nation understands what happened yesterday during Gokulashtami, a day celebrating the birth of Lord Krishna. Our temples were vandalized today—can this be a joke? With Vinayak Chaturthi approaching, it’s shocking that the police station is just 10 meters away and four surveillance cameras are installed, yet they could not prevent this. MIM goons came and desecrated our Mata Durga. I want to clarify to the entire country: do not dare touch our temples. And the MIM MP or the Chandrayangutta MLA should come and seek forgiveness from our goddess.

Dr. Shashidhar, Joint Secretary of VHP Telangana, arrived at the scene and expressed strong concerns, describing the attack as a targeted hate crime. He linked it to illegal settlements of Bangladeshis and Rohingyas in a nearby sensitive area, alleging that MIM supporters might have orchestrated the attack to disrupt the Ganesh festival. Dr. Shashidhar called for an impartial investigation to reveal what he termed the ‘Darussalam agenda,’ suggesting a broader conspiracy to target Hindu temples and convert land into Wakf properties. He also questioned the reasons behind the identification of suspects as mentally ill and reported that multiple motorcycle riders were involved in the attack.

The incident has intensified scrutiny on AIMIM leaders, particularly MLA Akbaruddin Owaisi, who represents Chandrayangutta, where the attack occurred. Owaisi is accused of using such incidents to incite unrest and distract from allegations of land encroachments tied to his party. The vandalism, occurring alongside recent attacks on Hindu temples in Bangladesh, has raised suspicions that it may be part of a larger strategy by AIMIM to divert attention from its controversial activities.

The Hindu community in Hyderabad’s Old City remains on high alert. They suspect this attack might be part of a series of orchestrated efforts to disrupt religious harmony and gain political leverage.

The local population claims that the area, once predominantly Hindu 30-40 years ago, has seen a significant demographic shift, with many Muslims, including alleged illegal immigrants, now residing there.

Andhra Pradesh, a state renowned for its vibrant culture, thriving business sectors, and rich agricultural heritage, has experienced significant changes over the past century, marked by establishing five different capitals. Each transition has presented unique challenges, impacting governance, development, and the socio-economic landscape.

Historical Background

The state’s capital shifts began in the early 20th century. Initially part of the Madras Presidency under British rule, Andhra Pradesh’s quest for its identity has been marked by political and administrative reconfigurations.

Capital Transitions

1. Madras (Pre-1953)
Madras served as the administrative hub for the Andhra region within the more significant Madras Presidency. The challenge here was a lack of regional autonomy, as the presidency often overshadowed the area’s needs.

2. Kurnool (1953-1956)
The first capital of the newly formed Andhra State, Kurnool, was chosen to address the region’s desire for self-governance. However, the infrastructure was insufficient to support a burgeoning state, creating logistical and administrative difficulties.

3. Hyderabad (1956-2014)
Hyderabad’s elevation to the capital of the unified Andhra Pradesh brought economic growth and cultural integration. Yet, the centralized governance model led to regional disparities, particularly affecting coastal and Rayalaseema regions.

4. Amaravati (2015-Present)
Amaravati was envisioned as a modern, well-planned city. However, its development faced delays, political opposition, and resource allocation issues, causing uncertainties and slowing anticipated progress.

5. Visakhapatnam (2020 Onwards)
Designated as the executive capital, Visakhapatnam aims to decentralize administration. Despite its industrial significance, the city faces challenges in building the necessary infrastructure to accommodate governmental functions effectively.

Challenges Faced

Economic Strain
Frequent capital changes have strained financial resources, with substantial investments required for infrastructure, administrative buildings, and urban planning each time.

Social Impact
Capital transitions have led to demographic shifts, affecting local economies and social structures. Each change prompted migrations, altering the socio-economic fabric of the regions involved.

Administrative Overheads
Repeated relocations disrupted continuity in governance, affecting policy implementation and long-term planning. Bureaucratic restructuring during each transition slowed administrative efficiency.

Cultural Integration
While Andhra Pradesh is culturally rich, integrating diverse regional identities under varying capitals posed challenges. Balancing regional aspirations with a unified state identity required careful navigation.

Thriving Despite Challenges

Despite these hurdles, Andhra Pradesh has continued to flourish. The state’s robust business environment, driven by IT, biotechnology, and pharmaceutical industries, remains resilient. Its agricultural sector, a backbone of the state’s economy, consistently contributes to India’s food security, supported by fertile lands and innovative farming practices.

Culturally, Andhra Pradesh boasts a rich panorama of traditions, languages, and arts. It preserves its heritage while embracing modernization. Festivals, classical arts, and cinema are vital in maintaining cultural vibrancy.

The journey of Andhra Pradesh through five capitals is a testament to its resilience and adaptability. While the challenges are significant, the state’s ability to navigate these transitions and continue its upward trajectory highlights its enduring spirit and potential for future growth. Addressing the ongoing challenges through strategic planning and inclusive governance will be key to sustaining this progress.

A plea has been submitted to the National Human Rights Commission (NHRC) by a social worker from Mokkampadu Village, Tekulapally Mandal, Bhadradri-Kottagudem District, Telangana, alleging that Yalamanchili Vijay Kumar, operator of VKR Gospel Media (a YouTube channel based in Hyderabad), defrauded 50 tribal residents of ₹12.5 lakhs under the guise of a bogus government scheme.

According to the complaint, the incident began on 8 February 2023, when Suresh, a 35-year-old tribal man, along with other villagers, met with the District Collector of Bhadradri-Kottagudem to discuss local issues. After leaving the Collector’s office, they were approached by Yalamanchili Vijay Kumar, who introduced himself as a pastor and operator of VKR Gospel Media. Kumar claimed to have connections to a “Nehru Yojana Scheme” supposedly introduced by the Central Government, which promised returns of ₹10 lakhs for a membership fee of ₹25,000.

Kumar reportedly convinced the villagers to join the scheme, assuring them of substantial financial benefits. On 16 February 2023, 50 tribal residents from Tekulapally and Illendu mandals collectively paid ₹12.5 lakhs to Kumar at the Kothagudem District Collector’s office.

However, after the payments were made, the promised benefits never materialized. Subsequent attempts to contact Kumar via the provided phone number were unsuccessful, leading the villagers to believe they had been defrauded.

The social worker, Arya, who brought the issue to light, emphasized the vulnerable position of the tribals who live in the agency area and primarily work as laborers. The scheme had offered them hope for financial relief, only to result in significant monetary loss.

In her plea to the NHRC, Arya has requested a thorough investigation into the matter and appropriate legal action against Yalamanchili Vijay Kumar. She provided detailed contact information for Kumar and the address of VKR Gospel Media in Hyderabad.

The social worker and the affected tribal residents are now seeking justice and the return of their hard-earned money, urging authorities to take swift and decisive action against the accused.

It is noteworthy that the same Vijay Kumar who also goes by Reverend Vijay Kumar, made derogatory remarks against Bharat Mata in 2017. He had questioned “There can be only one father to a family, not many fathers. This concept of mukkoti devata, 3 crore devatas is wrong. Whoever believes in or prays to 3 crore devatas will go to hell – these are not my words, but these are words of devudu (Jesus)…How many husbands does Bharat Mata have? Jesus is the father of the world.”

He was arrested and remanded for 15 days in this matter. Interestingly, this video is still available on YouTube.

Additionally, he had also demanded for the creation of a Christian India.
