Minister of Higher Education KT Jaleel who arrived in Kochi at 6 AM today is being interrogated by the National Investigation Agency in connection with the high profile Kerala Gold Smuggling Case.

This interrogation by the NIA comes following the questioning by Enforcement Directorate (ED).

The ED had questioned the Minister last week about the consignments of Quran that he had received from the UAE consulate.

It is said that before the NIA summoned the minister, the Director of the Enforcement Directorate reached Kochi yesterday and spoke to the NIA officials.

Minister KT Jaleel had accepted that he had interacted with Swapna Suresh, the kingpin of the smuggling scam and the prime accused in the case, on May 27 about donating food kits people affected by locdkdown. He said that he had interacted with Swapna in ‘official capacity’.

He also said that the 32 packets of Quran that he received from the UAE Consulate was for distribution during Ramazan and added that it remains intact for scrutiny by law enforcement agencies.
