Former US President Donald Trump survived an assassination attempt on 13 July 2024 during a rally for the upcoming Presidential elections in the United States of America.

On the one hand, American media tried to play down the incident with their extremely toned-down reporting.

On the other, Democrats and leftists – celebrities and politicians alike, called for violence against Donald Trump over the years.

Nancy Pelosi, former Speaker of the US House of Representatives and a member of the Democratic Party, had said, “Throw a punch” – not once but multiple times.

Senator Jon Tester, speaking to MSNBC, said, “Donald Trump, I think we need to go back and punch him in the face.”

Yet another Democrat/supporter says on a TV show that Trump must have been punched in the face.

President Joe Biden himself has called for violence against Trump several times – one of his oft-repeated dialogues is, “I’d take him behind the gym if I were in high school and beat the hell out of him.”

Just a couple of days ago, Biden said, “Most importantly, and I mean this from the bottom of my heart, Trump is a threat to this nation.”

Yet another member of the Democratic Party, Representative Maxine Waters had also said, “I will go and take Trump out tonight!”

Speaking at a public rally, she also instigated violence by saying, “If you see anybody from that Cabinet in a restaurant, in a dept store, at a gas station, you get out and you create a crowd and you push back on them.”

Former Michigan State Representative, Cynthia A Johnson, was seen (in an older video) warning Trump supporters. She said, “This is just a warning to you Trumpers. Be careful. Walk lightly. And for those of you who are soldiers, make them pay.”

Another Democrat/supporter called for putting “a bullet in Donald Trump.”

Hollywood actors Johnny Depp and Robert De Niro have also been found calling for violence against Trump.

Depp said, “When was the last time an actor assassinated the President?”

De Niro said, “I’d like to punch him in the face.”

Singer Madonna also said, “I have thought an awful lot about blowing up the White House,”

TV personality and show host Ellen DeGeneres in an episode of her show with current VP Kamala Harris asked Kamala, “If you are stuck in an elevator with President Trump, Mike Pence, or Jeff Sessions, who would it be?” Harris replied, “Just one of us has to come out alive”, followed by her cackling evil-like laughter.

A Democrat on a programme on MSNBC says, “People need to start taking to the streets, this is a dictator.”

US Representative for Massachusetts, Ayanna Pressley says, “There needs to be unrest in the streets for as long as there is unrest in our lives.”

Several others even called for “wringing the neck,” a TV anchor, Samantha Bee asked Trump’s daughter Ivanka “Do something about your dad’s immigration practices, you feckless c*nt”

Another on CNN said, “Biggest ever threat in this country is white men, radicalised to the right”

There have been depictions of violence against Trump in the form of skits, in the form of holding a bloody “head” as Kathy Griffin did in 2017.

It has always been the Democrats and the leftists in America who have called for violence and unrest in the state and violence against Donald Trump.

Their way of words and working is very similar to how the left and Congress supporters call for Modi’s death and violence in India.

Counting is underway in all the Parliamentary constituencies across the country. Keenly watched states include Tamil Nadu where the BJP along with its alliance is looking to gain a significant vote share in this election.

It has been reported that while the DMK and its allies would win most of the seats out of the 39 constituencies in the state, the BJP has made significant gains in vote share with the saffron party emerging the runner up in many constituencies.

In the latest episode ofLast Week Tonight, alleged comedian John Oliver took aim at India’s recent election, using his platform to launch a scathing critique of Prime Minister Narendra Modi. This move, however, reeks of a hit job rather than anything, making Oliver look and sound like a glorified Dhruv Rathee, who has been posting video after video making baseless allegations and spreading lies against the Modi government.

Oliver’s segment tried to paint a bleak picture of India’s democratic exercise, the largest in the world, involving over a billion voters. He focused on allegations of voter suppression and electoral irregularities by Modi’s Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP), asserting that Modi is poised to win a third term through dubious means – much like what the Congress and other leftists and their supporters have been claiming.

“Over the course of Modi’s rise, he’s chosen to be strategically quiet about his pseudo-authoritarian, pro-Hindu vision of India, Oliver claimed. He accused Modi of using anti-Muslim rhetoric during the campaign, pointing to a speech where Modi, as alleged by Oliver, falsely claimed his rival party would redistribute wealth toMuslims“, whom he referred to asinfiltrators. We all know the truth of those words – Congress scion Rahul Gandhi launched a campaign to talk about wealth distribution, doing an economic survey, and whatnot. Modi was talking about illegal immigrants when he mentioned infiltrators, it is the likes of Rathee and Congress twisted his statement, and Oliver followed suit without cross-checking.

Oliver went further, accusing Modi ofunderminingdemocratic institutions, stifling political opposition, and restricting press freedom. He mocked Modi’s infrastructure and food distribution (free ration) programmes, comparing the distribution of grain in bags with Modi’s face to Lyndon Johnson rebranding food stamps asLyndon’s Lucky Yum-Yum Voucher.”

While the world is seeing and is jealous of India’s economic growth despite the pandemic, Oliver dismissed these claims, citingsuspect statistics and highlighting the widening inequality“. He pointed out that 1 million people now control about 80% of India’s wealth and criticized the country’s drop in the Global Hunger Index, ranking it behind North Korea and Sudan. This is exactly the same propaganda that Dhruv Rathee has also been peddling.

Oliver portrayed thesuppressionof political opposition as a deliberate strategy, mentioning the freezing of opposition party bank accounts and the arrest of opposition leaders just before the election. He suggested that charges against opposition politicians often vanish when they switch to the BJP, implying a corrupt manipulation of justice. Once again, he speaks like a Dhruv Rathee.

Particularly inflammatory was Oliver’s focus on the rise in anti-Muslim sentiment and violence under Modi’s leadership. He described instances of police brutality against Muslims and highlighted a chilling incident where an officer allegedly praised Modi after killing three Muslims on a train. It’s worth remembering: that is not a bug of Modi’s leadership, it is a feature,Oliver stated, while not making an attempt to understand the truth about India and the propaganda peddled by the West.

Oliver’s segment criticized the international community’suncritical, fawning praiseof Modi, urging a more balanced view. It should be possible to acknowledge the good things that Modi has managed to do for India, while also acknowledging that many Indians live in active fear of what he seems more than happy to represent, he concluded.

This episode has sparked significant controversy in India, where it is conspicuously absent from JioCinema, the show’s official streaming partner, and unavailable on YouTube. This omission has fueled speculation that the sensitive content led to its exclusion, although there is no confirmation.

Previously, a 2019 episode focusing on Modi and former US President Donald Trump’s visit to India was also removed from Disney+ Hotstar, drawing criticism for censorship. At the time, India’s Information and Broadcasting Ministry denied any involvement.

Oliver’s relentless criticism and one-sided portrayal of Modi’s leadership place him in the same category as Dhruv Rathee, who is notorious for his anti-Modi stance. Oliver’s approach, blending humor with harsh critiques, appears more as a targeted attack rather than a balanced examination of Modi’s tenure.

In conclusion, John Oliver’s latest episode is yet another Western propaganda that has made him look nothing less than a glorified Dhruv Rathee who parrots lines given to him by his paymasters. This so-called comedy show was more a deliberate hit job on Narendra Modi, reflecting a biased perspective that fails to look at the truth.

A formal complaint has been filed against Mr. George Antonysamy, Archbishop of the Archdiocese of Madras-Mylapore, alleging an attempt to sway voters using religious sentiments during the ongoing Lok Sabha elections.

The complaint in particular raises concerns about an editorial published by Antonysamy in ‘The New Leader’ magazine affiliated with the Archdiocese of Madras-Mylapore, Tamil Nadu, operating under the umbrella of a public charitable trust, ‘The New Leader Foundation’, with Archbishop Antonysamy serving as its president.

The recent edition of The New Leader magazine, published by the Archdiocese of Madras-Mylapore, featuring a cover story titled “Elections 24, Modi’s endgame,” that raises serious concerns.

The editorial in question, titled “General Election 2024: Statement from Tamil Nadu Bishops’ Council,” purportedly aimed to influence voter opinion by invoking religious sentiments and fear-mongering tactics.

In the guest editorial George Antonysamy openly criticized India, its elected central government, and its citizens.

In the editorial, he writes under the subheading – “Challenges we face as ‘Minorities’“, he writes, “There is an attempt to construct India as a mono-cultural nation denying the diversity of our country.” He further continues, “.. today’s Union Government is destroying this diversity and imposing the ideology of one religion, one language, and one culture on us. And along with fascist ideologies of a single party, single leadership, non-opposition India, it is overturning the very democratic philosophy of India.”

He further continues to peddle disharmony by stating, “Christians and Muslims are branded as anti-nationals and their fundamental rights such as the right to worship, places of worship, and religious celebrations are under attack. Our freedom of religion is being curtailed in the name of Anti Conversion Bill under the false accusation that Christians are proselytizing.” He also adds, “The government has tried to impose communal law on us in the name of common civil code.”

His guest editorial further talks about Stan Swamy, how media has come “under the clutches of ruling union government“, how opposition members are thrown out, how southern states are “neglected” in tax distribution, how state rights are being attacked without “even giving compensation we are entitled to during natural calamities” and that the EC, investigative bodies, courts are under “control of the government“.

In the end, he gives a call to action that all Christians must vote to “protect this land in a way that ensures religious faith and human rights of all people.” He also asks the readers to “reject sectarian parties” and calls to the people to “vote together with the majority of the people such as non-religious, democratic forces, marginalised people, backward, downtrodden, tribal people and workers

In total, this editorial looks like it has been written by a DMK member especially because of the repeated use of the words “Union government” and parroting the same claims made by DMK ministers in Tamil Nadu.

“We will analyze the signs of the times based on gospel values and support the parties that protect freedom, equality, fraternity, democracy, social justice and the welfare of minorities in this election”, the editorial said.

Such actions further underscore the urgent need for decisive action to protect India’s legacy and uphold its integrity.

Several organizations fall under the purview of the Archdiocese of Madras-Mylapore and it becomes pertinent, given the character of the Archdiocese, that these organisations too, be thoroughly investigated for potential violations of FEMA, PMLA, and FCRA regulations. These organisations under the Archdiocese include the Estate of Sir John De Monte, the Archdiocese of Madras Mylapore Society, Madras Social Service Society, Chennai Mylai Educational Society, Jdax (John Demonte Academy of Excellence), The Cuomo Foundation Trust of India, and Caritas India.

Despite the ban on FCRA donations to churches and NGOs which clandestinely operate and use the funds allegedly for conversions, the Archdiocese appears to be engaging in blatant practices aimed at influencing elections and undermining the democratic process.

There have been calls for immediate and decisive action to investigate the Archdiocese’s alleged activities and requests to hold those guilty accountable for violating the law.

In light of the legal activism organization Legal Rights Protection Forum (LRPF) has raised the matter with the Election Commission of India saying “The said article was published with the ultimate intention of influencing the voters to vote on religious lines. Misusing their position of eminence within the Church, the Bishop’s Council has made a blatant attempt to polarize voters on religious lines. Serious action needs to be taken against the Bishop’s Council and the Archdiocese of Mylapore Madras.

LRPF also alleged that the Bishop’s Council and Archdiocese of Mylapor-Madras are receiving huge amounts of funds arising out of vast endowments made in the past for various benefactors to further the Christian faith. They apparently control several FCRA-registered organizations receiving foreign funds from abroad.

Instead of utilizing the funds for the purpose intended by the donors, the entities are using the same to spew venom against the central government, judiciary, parliament and media. This amounts to blatant misuse of the FCRA funds.“, the LRPF complaint alleged.

In a recent development, the Viduthalai Chiruthaigal Katchi (VCK) has not been allotted the pot symbol as a common symbol, a request they had fervently pursued. The decision, detailed in an order document from the Secretariat of the Election Commission of India, cites several key reasons for the denial.

Firstly, the Commission highlighted that the VCK’s application was incomplete as the party had failed to furnish a crucial component: the list of Parliamentary constituencies where it intended to field its candidates. Additionally, at the time of application, there were no authorized office bearers listed for the party, according to the Commission’s records.

Moreover, the VCK had not provided essential financial documents, including contribution statements, annual audit reports for the last three financial years, and election expenditure statements for the last two elections in which the party contested.

The Commission also noted that the VCK had availed of concessions on two previous occasions. However, to be eligible for further concessions, the party must fulfill certain criteria, including securing at least 1% of the total valid votes polled in the state during the previous election. Unfortunately for the VCK, they did not meet this requirement in the elections they contested.

Previously, during simultaneous general elections to the legislative assemblies of Tamil Nadu and Puducherry, the party had been allotted the ring symbol as its common emblem. Similarly, in the 2019 general elections, the VCK was allocated the pot and stool symbols in Andhra Pradesh and Telangana.

However, due to the party’s failure to meet the minimum vote threshold of 1% in the states where they contested, the Commission rejected their request for the allocation of a common symbol for the upcoming general elections in 2024 in Tamil Nadu, Andhra Pradesh, Telangana, and Kerala.

The BJP on Thursday named its candidates for nine Lok Sabha seats in Tamil Nadu, fielding former Telangana governor Tamilisai Soundararajan from Chennai South and party state unit chief K Annamalai from Coimbatore.

State Secretary of the Tamil Nadu Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP), SG Suryah, speculated to be the frontrunner for the South Chennai MP seat, released a video affirming his support and commitment to the party’s decision to field Tamizhisai Soundararajan. In the video shared on his official X handle, he conveyed a heartfelt message to his supporters, garnering widespread appreciation and winning their loyalty.

He praised Dr.Tamizhisai Soundararajan, acknowledging her pivotal role during her tenure as the Tamil Nadu BJP head. Suryah credited her for providing him with opportunities, including his appointment as the Youth Wing leader and official spokesperson for the TN BJP. He expressed gratitude for the chances she afforded him, which contributed to his current standing.

He pledged to dedicate himself tirelessly for the next 28 days leading up to the election date of 19 April 2024, specifically focusing on South Chennai. He aims to campaign vigorously for the chosen candidate, ensuring Tamil Nadu contributes significantly to Prime Minister Modi’s target of securing 400 seats in parliament this year.

Highlighting the significance of the South Chennai seat, he listed eminent MPs who have represented the prestigious constituency in Parliament, including TT Krishnamachari, Nanjil Manoharan, DMK’s Annadurai, former President Venkatraman, Murasoli Maran, and Vyjayanti Mala.

Describing the South Chennai constituency as the heart of Chennai, Suryah highlighted its significance, boasting over 20 lakh voters. Humbly, he attributed all his efforts in the constituency over the years to the party’s welfare. Acknowledging the party high command’s decision-making prowess in selecting candidates during election time, he vowed to intensify his campaign efforts for Tamizhisai, surpassing even his hypothetical candidacy. He expressed gratitude to party workers for their unwavering support and urged them to ensure Tamizhisai’s victory in the election.

The caption for the video he shared read, “I’ve only two people in my life now. One is my mother & the other is my party #BJP! Yes, I expected the #SouthChennai ticket & was very open about it. But my party has other plans in store for me. I declined the offer to consider contesting from other seats because I want to groom ONE constituency & want to be identified with the same for next 4 to 5 decades. From tomorrow till April 17th I will be walking in all the streets of South Chennai seeking vote for our beloved Akka @DrTamilisaiGuv! Inviting all volunteers interested to work towards the goal #Tamilisai4SouthChennai! Let’s clinch South Chennai for BJP.”

Netizens were disappointed that Suryah didn’t make it to the list as expected but vowed to vote for the BJP to ensure the party has some contribution from TN at the Parliament.

In Tamil Nadu, it is often said that the two Dravidian parties maintain a close relationship, acting like brothers who only permit each other to succeed and handling serious issues with minimal criticism. Recent discussions circulating on social media in Tamil Nadu suggest that the DMK and AIADMK are allegedly formulating a plan to counter the growing influence of the BJP in the state. Multiple sources now support and confirm these speculations.

Several instances of ADMK’s past positions, the differences with O Paneerselvam and the more recent issue of the ADMK voicing its dissent to the One Nation One Election policy, it is noteworthy that rather than leading the opposition and robustly criticizing the government to demonstrate strength, Edappadi Palanisami, appears to be focused on consolidating his supporters within the party to secure and maintain his position as the General Secretary. It is also noteable that those who backed him also faced expulsion from the party. Sasikala, who nominated him for the position of Chief Minister, was removed. Dinakaran was also ousted, and O Paneerselvam, who persisted in his fight until the end, was eventually expelled. In the end, they also severed ties with the BJP party that had formed an alliance with them

The ADMK, founded by MG Ramachandran, initially emerged in opposition to the DMK led by Karunanidhi. Following MGR, J Jayalalitha continued the party’s tradition of staunchly opposing the DMK. Whenever she assumed office as the Chief Minister, Jayalalitha would vociferously denounce the DMK, often leading to the imprisonment or legal troubles of former ministers. For instance, during her tenure, the case against the former Higher Education minister Ponmudi was initiated. However, the current General Secretary, Edappadi Palanisami, seems to have deviated from this historical stance, leaving party members and supporters feeling betrayed. It is worth a mention that the ADMK voters never cast their votes specifically for Edappadi Palanisami but rather for the party’s two-leaf symbol.

On 12 February 2022, Edappadi Palanisami announced that the conclusion of the current DMK administration would coincide with the completion of 27 new moons (approximately 2 years). At that point, the state assembly and parliamentary elections would merge, leading to the concept of “One Nation, One Election” (ONOE). He urged ADMK members to be prepared for this upcoming scenario, initiating a campaign to that effect. While representing the ADMK in the state legislative assembly, MLA Thalavai Sundaram spoke when Chief Minister MK Stalin presented a resolution opposing the idea of One Nation One Election.

Thalavai Sundaram’s stance where he initially seemed to support the ONOE and flipping to another stance wherein he mentioned in the Assembly that the support would be offered after a 10-year period after assessing the advantages and disadvantages of the measures taken for their 10 requests is also seen as a move by EPS to cozy up with the DMK.

In 2022, the ADMK initially expressed support for ONOE, but later reversed its position, citing questionable reasons and aligning itself with the DMK’s stance.

DMK in its election campaigns have often made a significant promise was made that if the party came to power, ministers from the ADMK, especially Edappadi Palanisami, would be sent to jail. However, despite the DMK being in power for two years now, no ministers have been arrested or faced charges so far. The converse is also true – Edappadi Planisami adopted a similar position during his earlier term as Chief Minister. This was evident when crucial cases involving prominent DMK ministers such as Thangam Thennarasu, KKSR Ramachandran, and Ponmudi were left purposefully unresolved under his leadership. Therefore, it can be deduced that both parties are currently demonstrating a strong sense of camaraderie by mutually assisting each other.

Contrary to the former Chief Minister Jayalalitha, Edappadi Palanisami failed to address pressing issues like custodial deaths, deaths of pregnant mothers at government hospitals adequately. Instead, he cautiously released statements and distanced himself from the matter.

It seems as if the amicable relationship between Edappadi Palanisamy’s AIADMK and the DMK is mutually advantageous with EPS doing everything he can to strengthen his position, while Stalin’s DMK is also solidifying its position. This collaboration allows Stalin to strategically position his son Udhayanidhi as the potential successor in the future.

On 15 February 2024, Dinamalar covered an initiative by both the DMK and ADMK to counter the increasing influence of the BJP in Tamil Nadu, drawing connections to recent events. In a twist of events, AIADMK General Secretary Edappadi Palaniswami appointed former minister Udayakumar as the Deputy Leader of the Opposition, a role initially intended for O Panneerselvam in the Assembly. However, Chief Minister Stalin unexpectedly endorsed this move, citing consideration of ADMK’s request.

Former Minister KP Munusamy emphasized in the assembly the need for ADMK to limit its criticism of the government, advocating for a collaborative approach between the ruling and opposition parties to prevent external forces from gaining traction. Sengottaiyan, another ex-minister, echoed this sentiment, emphasizing that either the DMK or ADMK should govern Tamil Nadu, excluding others. In a concerted effort to hinder the BJP’s rise to the second position in Tamil Nadu politics, Palaniswami and the ADMK have seemingly eased off on pursuing corruption cases, Kodanad murder, and robbery cases involving former ministers, according to the report.

Following Jayalalitha’s demise, the DMK and its coalition partners have openly deliberated on the BJP’s efforts to capitalize on the vacuum created by the absence of ADMK. The rift between ADMK and BJP intensified with Annamalai assuming the presidency of Tamil Nadu BJP in 2021, resulting in the BJP independently participating in the urban local body elections conducted in February 2022.

In addition to this, following Dinamalar’s article that claimed that the DMK and ADMK were working together to bring down a third party that prevented their success, ADMK General Secretary Edappadi Palaniswami stated that Dinamalar was the mouthpiece of the BJP akin to Murasoli that is the mouthpiece of the DMK.

In the lead-up to the much-anticipated elections in Tamil Nadu, the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) is making noteworthy strides, particularly with the enthusiastic reception of Tamil Nadu Bharatiya Janata Party Chief K Annamalai’s Padayatra. Despite projections indicating the BJP winning just one seat in the DMK-ruled state, there is an optimistic undertone for the party’s prospects, according to the latest TimesNow-Matrize survey.

The TimesNow-Matrize survey reveals that the BJP is estimated to secure a vote share of 20.4%, a promising figure that is expected to witness an upward trajectory as election day approaches. A significant 58%of respondents believe that Annamalai’s PadaYatra will have a positive impact, underlining the growing appeal of the BJP’s campaign efforts.

In a state where the DMK-Congress alliance is projected to dominate with 36 out of the 39 seats, the BJP’s resilience is evident.

While 44% of survey participants expressed dissatisfaction with Chief Minister MK Stalin’s governance, the positive sentiment surrounding Annamalai’s yatra indicates a potential shift in public perception. This positive outlook is reflected in the growing support for the BJP, with voters expressing confidence in the party’s agenda and leadership.

Political pundits predict that if not for the DMK’s alliance dynamics, the BJP could surpass the DMK in terms of individual vote share in Tamil Nadu and that the numbers for BJP will go up from here.

As the electoral landscape continues to evolve, the BJP’s rising vote share and the optimistic response to Annamalai’s PadaYatra paint a picture of a party on the ascendancy in Tamil Nadu.
