Allegations of irregularities have surfaced in Minjur after residents claimed that damaged electrical components were used in a newly installed substation built at an estimated cost of ₹1 crore.

The facility was set up in Ward 1 of Minjur Town Panchayat following repeated complaints from residents about frequent power cuts and electricity shortages in the area. Acting on these demands, Ponneri MLA Durai Chandrasekhar inaugurated the substation and opened it for public use.

However, soon after the inauguration, locals alleged that the electric poles at the site were already in a deteriorated condition, with visible cracks and exposed wiring.

Residents further claimed that old poles and electrical materials had been repainted and presented as new during the inauguration. They accused authorities of misusing public funds and demanded an inquiry into the execution of the project.

The allegations have triggered concern in the locality.

DMK Minister TM Anbarasan on Thursday, 19 February 2026, alleged that the rise in ganja movement in the State was due to the failure of the previous AIADMK government to take timely action.

He made the remarks while addressing a DMK public meeting titled “Tamil Nadu Will Not Bow Down” held in Nanganallur, Chennai. The meeting was attended by MP Kanimozhi Somu and other party leaders.

Speaking at the event, Anbarasan claimed that some individuals arriving from northern states were involved in bringing ganja into Tamil Nadu, while asserting that the police were taking strong measures to curb the menace.

“Today, ganja is banned in our state. In many other states, ganja is not banned anywhere. Do you know how many people arrive in Chennai every day? From the northern states, at least 10,000 people arrive daily. Each one who arrives brings 1-2 kilos each. The moment they arrive; we alert the police and take whatever strict action is necessary. If action had been taken in the last 10 years, this problem would not have arisen,” he said.

In the same event, DMK MP Kanimozhi Somu also derogated North Indians. She said, “Today, if you look at our children, all of them have crossed the seas and gone beyond India and are in very prestigious positions. The main reason is only because we studied Tamil and English. Those who studied Hindi, if one has to say, ‘work itself is god’; I am not belittling anyone’s profession. But here, as was said earlier, about ten thousand people are coming every day from North India. What are they bringing and doing here? Either they are bringing ganja, or they are running pani puri shops and doing that kind of work. But our educated children cross the seas and become scientists, doctors, engineers, and even work in places like Google. That is how much we have progressed.”

Despite innumerable attacks on migrant workers across Tamil Nadu, DMK’s ministers and MPs appear to have learnt absolutely nothing, except how to normalise their hate against migrant workers.

Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam (DMK) Thousand Lights MLA Ezhilan Naganathan, known for spewing venom against Hinduism, is back in focus with another inflammatory speech against Hindus and Hindi-speaking migrant workers. He joins his colleagues in spewing venom against Hindi speakers.

Speaking at a public event, Ezhilan first took aim at Tamilaga Vettri Kazhagam (TVK) chief Vijay, who has previously used the phrase to criticise the ruling party.

He said, “I ask, ‘Is the DMK an evil force?’ I ask, ‘Is the DMK an evil force?’ Yes — we are an evil force. For whom are we an evil force? We are an evil force to Manusmriti followers. We are an evil force to those who try to uphold the varna-ashrama doctrine based on caste. We are an evil force to those who do politics based on religion. We are an evil force to those who try to disturb and damage Tamil culture. We are an evil force to those who try to block women’s progress. Whoever tries to impose exams like NEET so that our children dont study – to them we are an evil force. Whoever acts against protecting this nation’s honour and this land’s rights – to all of them, we are an evil force, an evil force, an evil force.”

Continuing his address, Ezhilan referred to education rankings during the AIADMK regime led by Edappadi K. Palaniswami.

He said, “In education, eighth rank, that was during Edappadi’s rule. I did not give that ranking, India Today gave that ranking. I am saying this here, I am also a doctor, Lakshmanan is also a doctor. When one MLA spoke there, I asked, did you have a composed MLA? There was an MLA, is he someone who speaks calmly? Will he speak calmly at this time? When will he ever speak calmly? You voted like this, for a person who cannot even speak three continuous lines properly to the media, he has now gone to the Rajya Sabha. Has he made any speech there? Any record? Any note where he spoke properly? Any note where he spoke calmly? I ask, how did you vote for him? Think about it. Think for a minute whom you voted for. I am asking you to think.”

Ezhilan also made political references involving the BJP’s lotus symbol and social practices.

He said, “Diwali and Christmas are the same, we have lived like that. As long as we eat beef here, the lotus will never bloom here. As long as we eat biryani here, the lotus will never bloom here. They are trying to break that. They are plotting in many ways.”

He added, “One, they broke the AIADMK using Edappadi, creating a slave mentality, and are standing here. They are not giving funds or support. They are telling the Chief Minister – accept the three-language policy, accept Hindi, then we will give ₹3,000 crore for your schools. But our CM asks back, ‘This is our life, our life language, our life itself. Our job is to protect the language. We are the organization who carried out the language war. We will not accept it even if you give ₹10,000 crore.’ But what does Edappadi say? But what did Edappadi do? During Edappadi’s rule, a government order was issued allowing people without Tamil knowledge to get government jobs. That traitorous Edappadi government allowed anyone to enter our employment space.”

He further said, “I ask – what progress have they seen by studying Hindi? People from very backward sections who studied Hindi come here and do construction work, sell pani puri, sell beeda and pakoda. But our children from backward communities become software engineers, become doctors, go abroad for jobs.”

Linking language policy to social mobility, Ezhilan said, “That foundation was laid by Anna. If today I am a doctor, if Lakshmanan sir is a doctor, we speak Tamil and English because of the two-language policy given by Anna. If children from our homes speak fluent English today, it is because of Anna’s two-language policy. That is what led to progress.”

He added, “To destroy that, what are they doing? They say – accept the three-language policy, they are saying to accept Hindi indirectly. They are blackmailing us saying only if we do that, they will give funds. Are we going to allow that? Are we going to allow our progress to be blocked?”

Ezhilan then ‘warned’ about communal polarisation and political manipulation.

He said, “I ask you – should Tamil Nadu be turned into a land of communal riots? We are moving on a path of progress, a path of science. Our children are becoming scientists, AI scientists.”

Referring to the state government’s flagship programme, he said, “Through the ‘Naan Mudhalvan’ scheme alone, 44 lakh students have benefited and are becoming managers in multinational companies, marketing engineers, scientists in manufacturing sectors. Why should we be pulled backward? I am asking you – should we be dragged back?”

He concluded with a broader political appeal: “Think – I ask you to think. I ask the people of Tamil Nadu. Democracy is fundamental. Many political parties will come before you. Many ideologies will come. Artificial actors will come. They will even dance on stage. But what will you do? They will not open their mouths to oppose the BJP. But they will open their mouths only to call the DMK an evil force. Don’t you see that conspiracy? A conspiracy is underway to exploit your eagerness; to undermine Tamil Nadu’s progress and manipulate you for their own purposes. I ask – who are the real heroes? The real hero is the Chief Minister who is working to make Tamil Nadu the number one state.”

Actor-turned-politician Vijay is facing a barrage of backlash after addressing Chief Minister M.K. Stalin as “Uncle” during the second state-level conference of his Tamilaga Vettri Kazhagam (TVK) in Madurai. The comment has triggered sharp and highly personal responses from ruling DMK members, particularly two sitting MLAs who launched scathing verbal assaults.

During a land title distribution event in North Chennai the Thiruvottriyur DMK MLA K.P. Shankar mocked Vijay’s political ambitions, saying, “Today, those who are like Vijay (the actor), living like squirrels, don’t know anything. What would he know? All he knows is whether to go with Trisha or with Keerthy Suresh, nothing else. True governance is about feeling the struggles of the people and acting for them in education and healthcare. This Dravidian model rule is governing with these two, education and healthcare, as its two eyes.”

Shankar didn’t stop there. He took a personal dig, accusing Vijay of being incapable of taking care of his own parents or his wife, raising doubts about his ability to serve the public. “The same Vijay who now calls the CM ‘uncle’ once stood beside his father at Jayalalithaa’s residence in Poes Garden,” he pointed out.

He went on to say, “If our current Chief Minister were like Jayalalithaa, he would have stripped Vijay of clothes and made him run. But Stalin is a forgiving man, and so he let it slide.”

Adding to the controversy, another DMK MLA, V. C. Chandhirakumar, compared Vijay to a barking dog. “I’ll tell you one thing, sir. A dog barks at the sun. But the sun doesn’t get angry at the dog for it. That’s all. We know it’s a dog. Why should we take it so seriously? We are the sun. We are giving light to the whole world. So we’ll just keep doing our job,” he said. Without naming Vijay directly, Chandrakumar implied that reacting to such criticism was beneath the ruling party, comparing Stalin to the sun, which “shines on the world without getting involved in petty squabbles.” He also added, “I’ve just given a metaphor that a dog barks at the sun. If you choose to take it personally, I’m not responsible for that.”

The remarks, widely shared on social media, have sparked a fresh wave of political tension as Tamil Nadu approaches the 2026 assembly elections, with Vijay’s emergence clearly rattling the established players.

DMK’s R.K. Nagar MLA, J. John Ebenezer, has stirred controversy after a video surfaced showing him making derogatory remarks towards local residents, reportedly asking, “Are they mental?” during a heated exchange. The incident occurred when he was visiting his constituency to encourage participation in the upcoming “Ungaludan Stalin” (With You, Stalin) government outreach camp.

As part of the campaign, Ebenezer was explaining the scheme’s benefits and government services to residents. During his visit on 19 August, a woman confronted the MLA, questioning why she had not received the ₹1,000 payment under the Magalir Urimai Thogai (Women’s Rights Grant) scheme.

More women from the locality joined in, expressing frustration that despite most residents receiving the benefit, several women on their street were left out. In response, some DMK cadre accompanying the MLA reportedly remarked that those left out lived in well-built, multi-storey homes and therefore did not qualify for the grant.

A local youth also raised the same concern, stating that no one in his area had received the financial assistance. Ebenezer replied that the issue could be resolved at the upcoming camp, where they could submit a petition for inclusion.

However, the youth pushed back, questioning the timing and sincerity of the initiative. He asked whether residents would only be heard close to elections and expressed skepticism over receiving any funds before the current government’s term ends in seven months.

This exchange escalated tensions, with Ebenezer reportedly stating that women who own homes or use school buses would not be eligible for the grant. When tempers flared further, the MLA allegedly insulted the residents by calling them “mentals.”

Residents claim that Ebenezer also seized and destroyed a phone belonging to a person who was recording the incident. The video, however, had already begun circulating, triggering outrage in the area and sparking criticism against the MLA’s conduct.

He stated, “For the past four years, residents of South Thadampettai Pudutheru village, located within the T. Palur Panchayat in Ariyalur District, have been supplied with extremely contaminated drinking water. Despite numerous petitions submitted by the public, even reaching the Member of Legislative Assembly (MLA), no action has been taken so far to provide clean drinking water. In this situation, when Mr. K.S.K. Kannan, the Jayankondam MLA, visited a nearby village today, some residents from the village attempted to show him the contaminated water from their village by bringing a bottle of it. However, the MLA humiliated the public, snatched the water bottle, threw it away, and drove off in his car. The public elected these representatives to fulfill their basic needs, not to humiliate them. What other job does Mr. K.S.K. Kannan have besides listening to the pleas of the public who have been suffering without clean drinking water for four years? Immediate action must be taken to provide clean drinking water to the villages under T. Palur Panchayat. Mr. K.S.K. Kannan should remember that without the votes of the people, there would be no position or respect before he humiliates them.”

On 29 May 2025, MC Murugesan, the elder brother of ruling DMK MLA MC Shanmugaiah of Ottapidaram, was arrested in connection with a land dispute and harassment case, after a woman filed a complaint accusing him of threats and coercion.

The complaint was filed by Muthumadathi, a resident of Thapathi village, who alleged that Murugesan had confronted her and her husband, Marimuthu, while they were returning from a visit to Tiruchendur temple. According to her statement, the incident took place in Muthaiahpuram, where Murugesan allegedly pressured her to sell her 4.5-acre property in Ottapidaram at a reduced price — a deal she had reportedly refused multiple times in the past.

Based on her complaint, the Muthaiahpuram police registered a First Information Report (FIR) and took Murugesan into custody. He was later presented before a judicial magistrate and remanded to 14 days of judicial custody on Friday.

Police sources added that Murugesan, who was found unwell during a routine medical checkup, has been admitted to Thoothukudi Government Medical College Hospital under police surveillance.

Murugesan is known to be a real estate dealer, involved in acquiring land from farmers — allegedly for renewable energy projects. His political connection to the DMK MLA from Ottapidaram has drawn significant public attention to the case.

Hindu Munnani has sharply criticized DMK MLA Thiyagarajan for his alleged controversial remarks during a session of the Tamil Nadu Legislative Assembly, where he likened Deputy Chief Minister Udhayanidhi Stalin to the ten-headed demon king Ravana, alleging that he had come to destroy Sanatana Dharma (Hinduism).

The Hindu Munnani expressed its outrage on its official X account, questioning, “Will MLA Thiyagarajan openly seek votes in Trichy district by declaring his intent to destroy Sanatana Dharma?” The organization further warned that “just as Lord Rama destroyed the ten headed Ravana, the anti-Hindu DMK will be defeated and driven away by the people of Rama’s devotees in the 2026 elections.”

Background: Controversial Assembly Debate

During a heated exchange in the Assembly, MLA Thiyagarajan, representing the DMK, made a poetic remark referring to Udhayanidhi Stalin as a “ten-headed Ravana of the dynasty” and portrayed him as a force aiming to dismantle Sanatana Dharma.

This statement drew responses from both opposition and ruling party members. AIADMK’s K.P. Munusamy acknowledged the poetic style of Thiyagarajan’s speech but pointed out a conceptual inconsistency. He stated that Ravana, traditionally known as a devout follower of Lord Shiva, cannot accurately be described as an enemy of Sanatana Dharma.

DMK’s HR&CE Minister Sekar babu chimed in with an analogy, comparing Sanatana to the peel of a banana and God to the fruit itself—suggesting that Sanatana is merely an outer layer of devotion. However, Munusamy contested this view, arguing that devotion and Sanatana are distinct concepts. If they were one and the same, he said, there would be no reason to oppose Sanatana or fight legal battles over it.

VCK MLA Sinthanai Selvan also added that Sanatana and religious devotion are separate, asserting that the philosophical heritage of Tamil culture should not be conflated with Sanatana Dharma.

In a disturbing turn of events, Baladurai (73), a resident of Chennai, has alleged that a group of men claiming to be supporters of DMK MLA Prabhakar Raja threatened to kill him over a land dispute in Vadapalani.

According to a complaint filed by Baladurai, he had taken a piece of land on lease in Vadapalani. A group of around 30 individuals, allegedly associated with the ruling DMK party, arrived at the location with a JCB machine. The group reportedly demolished the perimeter wall and shutter of the leased property.

A video recorded by Baladurai’s son captures the aftermath of the incident. In the footage, the son claims that the men not only caused destruction but also issued death threats. “They threatened to kill us, saying they belong to the ruling party,” he said.

The family is demanding immediate action against the attackers and protection from further intimidation. Baladurai has appealed to the authorities to take cognizance of the involvement of political supporters in land grabbing and intimidation tactics.

Despite the seriousness of the allegations, there has been no official response yet from MLA Prabhakar Raja or the DMK.

The Dravidianist parties in Tamil Nadu, especially the DMK and its notable allies have been protesting against the alleged imposition of Hindi under the NEP 2020 in the state. While there is no known imposition, the education policy mandates that students study 3 languages as part of their curriculum. Dravidianists faking their love for Tamil allege that such practices will erase Tamil and impose Hindi (when the mandate is that students can learn any other language, not necessarily Hindi).

However, this hypocrisy gets exposed every single day given that political party leaders in Tamil Nadu, the majority of them if not all, run schools as well.

Part-time politician Vijay was exposed a few days ago for running a CBSE school that promotes learning Hindi.

Now, DMK MLA GV Markandeyan is under the spotlight. He is one of the managing trustees of a CBSE school named Sri Ambal Vidhyalaya in Vilathikulam, Thoothukudi. This is an English-medium CBSE school. It is noteworthy that GV Markandeyan is an MLA from the same constituency – Vilathikulam.

In addition to his presence, his wife Anita Markandeyan is also among the managing trustees.

They have Instagram and Facebook pages that are filled with such videos of children speaking in English, Hindi, performing yoga and other activities.

Interestingly, their logo has Sanskrit words too – the logo says – “Vignyanam, Shaantam, Advaitam” meaning “Knowledge, Tranquility, Oneness”!!! But isn’t Sanskrit an Aryan language according to Dravidianists?

The blatant hypocrisy of the Dravidianist parties cannot be ignored. While they vocally criticize the three-language policy and present themselves as champions of Tamil, the inconvenient truth is that they all run CBSE schools in Tamil Nadu that directly follows the very policy they claim to oppose. Their attempt to position themselves as saviours of Tamil language rights crumbles in the face of this exposed contradiction.
