A DMK functionary abused PM Modi during a speech given at a meeting in Erode.

It is alleged that he said the abuse by slip of tongue and requested all media people to cut out the said word. He also apologised, while laughing, for using the word. However, it is not clear what he said since the videos available on the internet have muted the abuse.

In the clipping, he is seen saying, “Modi is a very clever fellow. That man has now said some new thing about ganja. He is saying ****, ganja, and so on are coming from Tamil Nadu… sorry, by mistake, forgive me. For that wretched sinner, the capital of drugs is entirely Gujarat only. Cut it out, – all the drugs are being imported only from Gujarat. From there it is distributed everywhere, and you say it is Tamil Nadu?”

This is not the first time a DMK member has abused PM Modi.

In April 2023, DMK MP A Raja called PM Modi a ‘fraud‘.

In March 2024, DMK minister Anita Radhakrishnan called PM Modi a “m***** f*****” with DMK MP Kanimozhi on stage.

In June 2024, DMK functionary, who is known to abuse every person living or dead, left, right and centre, Sivaji Krishnamurthy abused PM Modi saying “ada g*mala dei”.

A local functionary of the ruling Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam (DMK) broke down in public and staged a hunger protest near Vedaranyam after alleging that senior party leaders deliberately boycotted a welfare assistance programme he had organised at great personal cost.

Jayashankar, a DMK branch secretary, said he had mortgaged his house to organise the party programme but was left humiliated when senior leaders failed to attend despite being formally invited. Visibly distressed, he accused party leaders of sidelining him because of his social background.

“I mortgaged my house thinking I should conduct this programme for the party. Does someone from an oppressed community, living below the poverty line, not have the right to be in politics?” he said, breaking down in tears.

Jayashankar claimed that despite issuing proper invitations, district secretary Gauthaman and union secretary Mahakumar did not attend the event. He alleged that internal factionalism was being encouraged by the union secretary, whom he accused of deliberately creating conflict.

Referring to the party’s ideology, he questioned, “If DMK claims to go beyond language and race, does that mean there is no caste? Why am I being treated this way?”

When asked about the allegations, union secretary Mahakumar told reporters that Jayashankar had organised the programme without informing him in advance. He claimed that proper coordination procedures had not been followed.

Due to the failure of the programme, beneficiaries who had arrived to receive welfare assistance reportedly returned disappointed.

Jayashankar further alleged sustained harassment and humiliation by party functionaries. “They say the district secretary will not come unless the union secretary is present. Have we ever ignored the union secretary or failed to give him importance?” he asked.

He claimed he was subjected to verbal abuse and mental harassment, stating, “They treat me as inferior, abuse me, and humiliate me. I am being mentally tortured. They tell me I should not express my emotions or organise any programme.”

In an emotionally charged statement, he said, “I don’t know if I will be alive tomorrow. I am alive today, but I don’t know about tomorrow. When I try to express my feelings for the party and its leader, I am insulted and disgraced.”

In connection with the case of spotted deer hunting in the Alankulam forest area of Tenkasi district, authorities are actively searching for TMS Mukesh, a youth wing organizer from the DMK’s northern district. The operation is being carried out jointly by the forest department and the Wildlife Crime Control Bureau across Tamil Nadu and Kerala.

According to reports, Mukesh is believed to be the primary suspect in organizing the illegal hunt. He allegedly gathered hunters from multiple districts to kill spotted deer in the western region of the Uthumalai area, which falls within the Alankulam forest reserve.

In a related development, District Forest Officer Akhil Thambi has been reassigned to Ramanathapuram. Authorities have stated that only after Mukesh’s arrest will they be able to determine the exact number of deer that were killed, cooked, and to identify all others involved in the case.

The forest department, under the leadership of Alankulam Forest Officer T. Munirathnam, has already detained three individuals: C. Pon Anand (46) and T. Rajalingam (40) from Kanyakumari district, and E. Ranjith Singh Raja (40) from Thoothukudi district. Two vehicles used in the operation were also confiscated. The arrested individuals admitted that Mukesh had brought them to Uthumalai for the illegal hunt.

Additionally, investigators are examining whether Mukesh has a history of poaching. They are also analyzing images from his social media, where he is seen posing with various firearms, to determine if any of those weapons were used in the crime.

Sources revealed that Mukesh had reportedly promised venison to a group of politically connected individuals who were visiting Courtallam. To fulfill this, he organized a hunting trip and arranged for hunters to kill several spotted deer. The group, who were allegedly consuming alcohol during the outing, attempted to transport the deer meat to Courtallam using three separate vehicles.

Uthumalai police, upon noticing suspicious activity, tried to pursue the convoy but eventually lost track of the vehicles. In the early hours of the morning, the hunters, unfamiliar with the local roads were involved in a road accident. Later, acting on an informant’s tip, the police returned to the scene, apprehended the three suspects, and handed them over to the forest department. During the operation, authorities seized weapons including firearms and knives, a deer carcass, torchlights, and mobile phones.

Police have taken Bharathi, the DMK women’s panchayat president from Tirupattur district, into custody after CCTV footage linked her to a jewellery theft at the Koyambedu bus stand. The incident comes amid rising concerns over a surge in chain snatching and jewelry thefts across Tamil Nadu, prompting authorities to intensify preventive efforts.

As part of these ongoing operations, several offenders have been apprehended and jailed. One such case emerged involving Bharathi, who was caught on camera allegedly stealing jewelry. The incident occurred on 14 July, when a 50-year-old woman named Varalakshmi from the Nerkundram area traveled by bus from Kanchipuram and got off at the Vengaya Mandi bus stand in Koyambedu. Upon reaching home, she discovered that four sovereigns of gold jewelry were missing from her bag.

Despite searching the nearby area, Varalakshmi was unable to locate the missing items and subsequently lodged a complaint at the Koyambedu police station. During the investigation, police reviewed CCTV footage and identified 56-year-old Bharathi as the suspect involved in the theft.

Bharathi was arrested shortly afterward, and further inquiries revealed that she has over 10 pending theft-related cases registered against her in various police stations, including those in Vellore and Ambur. Following her arrest, Bharathi was brought before the court and has since been remanded in judicial custody.

BJP leader K. Annamalai has launched a sharp attack on the ruling DMK, accusing the party of consistently shielding and empowering anti-social elements for political and financial gain. According to Annamalai, the DMK has a long-standing pattern of recruiting individuals with criminal backgrounds, rewarding them with positions of influence, and turning a blind eye to their escalating misconduct as long as they continue to deliver money or political advantage.

The BJP leader’s criticism comes in the wake of a fresh controversy involving Rajan, the joint secretary of DMK’s Nagercoil city unit. Widely known among locals as “Kozhi Rajan” or “Dhadiyan Rajan,” he was recently caught on camera when his wife who studied at Manonmaniam Sundaranar University, virtue-signalled by refusing to take the degree certificate from Tamil Nadu Governor RN Ravi. However, Annamalai and others allege the performance was nothing more than a political smokescreen an attempt to divert attention from a string of serious criminal allegations that have trailed her husband and DMK functionary Rajan for years.

Locals in Nagercoil have long accused Rajan of misappropriating approximately ₹1.5 crore allocated by the Tamil Nadu government for renovation works at the historic St. Xavier’s Church. They claim the funds were used to purchase assets including properties and an Innova car under his wife’s name. Yet, repeated attempts to obtain transparency via RTI queries have been stonewalled. Even a formal complaint lodged with the Directorate of Vigilance and Anti-Corruption has reportedly gone nowhere.

Residents of Bharathar South village in Kottar have also submitted complaints to both the District Collector and the Superintendent of Police, accusing Rajan of issuing death threats to dissenters and creating a public nuisance near schools while intoxicated disturbing students and intimidating locals. Despite this, no legal action has been taken against him, which Annamalai attributes solely to Rajan’s political affiliation with the DMK.

Taking to his official X account, Annamalai wrote, “The history of the DMK party is one of seeking out individuals involved in petty crimes, giving them positions of power, and then turning a blind eye when they commit more serious offenses by solely focusing on the income they generate. Due to this only the ordinary public suffers. Just two days ago, a man named Rajan, the joint secretary of the Nagercoil DMK unit, was caught on camera creating a scene at Manonmaniam Sundaranar University, feigning criticism of the Governor. This same individual was known to the people of Nagercoil as “Kozhi Rajan” or “Dhadiyan Rajan” for many years and has a long history of criminal allegations against him. The people of Nagercoil have complained that this “Kozhi Rajan” embezzled about 1.5 crore rupees allocated by the government to the famous St. Xavier’s Church in Nagercoil and claimed he used the money to acquire several properties and an Innova car in his wife’s name. When questioned about the funds through the Right to Information Act, authorities refused to answer. Even when a complaint filed against him with the Directorate of Vigilance and Anti-Corruption also appears to have been shelved. In addition to this, the residents of Kottar’s Bharathar South village in Nagercoil have already filed complaints with the District Collector and the Superintendent of Police regarding “Kozhi Rajan’s” actions, which include threatening to kill opposers and causing disturbance near schools while drunk, bothering students. However, the DMK government has not taken any action against “Kozhi Rajan” to date. The only reason for this is that he belongs to the DMK. It is believed that “Kozhi Rajan” staged the scene at the university to divert attention from the public’s complaints against him. The Tamil Nadu government allocated ₹2.28 crore for the renovation of St. Xavier’s Church in Kottar and has already released ₹1.14 crore in the first phase. Why do they refuse to make the accounts of these funds public? Why is the district police hesitant to take action against “Kozhi Rajan,” who continues to threaten the public? The public will soon teach a lesson to the DMK that continues to protect, empower, and promote anti-social elements.”

On 12 August 2025, the Special Investigation Team (SIT), set up to probe the large-scale property tax scam in the Madurai Corporation, made significant progress by arresting two key individuals. Pon Vasanth, husband of Madurai DMK Mayor Indrani, was apprehended in Chennai, while former Assistant Commissioner Suresh Kumar was taken into custody in Thoothukudi.

Vasanth, previously suspended from the DMK in May for activities deemed detrimental to the party, was arrested just hours after Suresh Kumar, who is currently posted in the Thoothukudi Corporation, was detained in connection with the same case.

The SIT was formed following orders from the Madras High Court to investigate serious allegations of manipulation within the corporation’s property tax system. The scam involves deliberate tampering of the Urban Tree Information System (UTIS) used for assessing property tax values. Investigators allege that the software was misused to underreport property values, leading to substantial financial losses estimated in crores for the municipal body.

The probe has already led to a string of arrests over recent months. Among those previously detained are DMK functionary Kannan husband of Ward 51 Councillor and Taxation and Finance Committee Chairperson K. Vijayalakshmi as well as Senthil Pandi, a bill collector from Ward 96. Police say Kannan played a pivotal role by directly liaising with beneficiaries who profited from the undervalued tax assessments.

While Vijayalakshmi was summoned and questioned by the SIT, sources indicate she has so far only been asked to appear for further inquiries. Earlier stages of the investigation also resulted in the arrest of A. Rengarajan, then Assistant Commissioner (Revenue), along with six other bill collectors, intermediaries, and temporary employees of the corporation.

Authorities say the investigation is far from over, with efforts underway to track down everyone involved in the widespread malpractice.

In a disturbing incident from the Thatrahalli area of Krishnagiri district, two Scheduled Caste women have accused Nagaraj, a local DMK functionary, of caste-based abuse, sexual harassment, and coercion in exchange for land rights (patta). The women allege that Nagaraj exploited their vulnerable status being widowed or abandoned and threatened them with eviction if they failed to comply with his demands.

Tamil Selvi, a 30-year-old widow and mother of four (three daughters and one six-year-old son), and Muniyammal, a single mother of two, are among the women who have not received official land ownership (patta) despite residing in Thatrahalli for over 30 years. While others in nearby dwellings have been granted land rights, these women claim they were deliberately excluded.

According to their statements, Nagaraj had repeatedly summoned them over the past five years, demanding they clean toilets at his home. When they refused, he allegedly used caste slurs and threatened them with eviction. The women said they were told not to approach authorities regarding the patta, or they would be forced to vacate their homes.

Speaking to the media, the women expressed deep fear for their safety. Tamil Selvi said, “My husband’s name is Ramraj, he has passed away. We’ve been living here for about 30 years. There were no problems when we lived in a thatched hut. The Krishnagiri District Chairman, who is from the DMK party, started causing problems. He called me to work at his house, to clean his bathroom. I told him I couldn’t come because I have children to take care of and I can’t leave them. He then said, “You are a ****, low-caste woman. You won’t listen to me. I will see how you stay in this place. I will make sure you vacate this house. You won’t be allowed to stay here.” He started threatening me daily. At night, they throw stones at my house and break things. They bang on my door and cause many problems. Everyone in this town knows about the troubles we, with our four children, are facing.”

Muniyammal said tearfully, “He says, “When I call you, you have to come. Everyone else here comes when I call them, why don’t you?” It’s really hard to sleep here with children. At night, some unknown people who are drunk come and create a ruckus. They took my signature, saying a land title deed (patta) has come. They asked me to sign and I did. A week later, when I went and asked about the patta, because everyone else got it but we didn’t, they said my name wasn’t on the list. When I asked why they took my signature, they said, “Nagaraj said that you will not be given a patta.” (He threatens me saying), “I will throw any amount of money at you. Come to me, and I will build you a house. If you don’t come, I won’t let you stay on this land.” He has been threatening me like this for five or six years.”

They further alleged that Revenue Department officials, without prior notice, arrived late at night to carry out eviction-related actions, adding to their distress. The women have called for immediate intervention and strict action against Nagaraj for harassment, abuse of power, and caste-based discrimination.

BJP leader K Annamalai has strongly criticized the ruling DMK government, citing a breakdown in law and order and alleging that criminals now operate without fear of police or legal consequences.

In a post shared on 1 August 2025, Annamalai highlighted a viral video allegedly showing DMK functionary Thunaivendhan removing a donation box (hundi) from the Sundaramurthy Ayyanar Temple in Kolathur, Perambalur.

Shockingly, the hundi was reportedly installed by Thunaivendhan himself, not the Hindu Religious and Charitable Endowments (HR&CE) Department. When HRCE officials attempted to seal the hundi, he allegedly threatened them and walked off with the box, which contained offerings from devotees.

K Annamalai said, “DMK functionary Thunaivendhan is caught on video lifting a Hundi from the Sundaramurthy Ayyanar Temple in Kolathur, Perambalur. Ironically, this Hundi wasn’t installed by the HR&CE Department, but by Thunaivendhan himself. When officials finally acted to seal it, he resorted to threats and walked away with the Hundi and the devotees’ offerings. Under DMK rule, even temples are not spared from political loot. And this is not the first time we have pointed this out!”

In a separate post, Annamalai shared another video purportedly showing accused individuals in police custody using obscene language and taunting each other while inside a police vehicle right in front of the officers.

He said, “Under the DMK Govt, Rowdies rule the roost. Seeing rogues abuse Policemen inside a police vehicle while being transported to prison only proves that these anti-social elements have no fear of the law. Truly disheartening!”

Tiruppur district was shaken by the suicide of Selvanandham, an AIADMK IT Wing secretary of Kundadam West Union, who reportedly ended his life after recording an emotional audio message on his phone. In the note, he accused certain DMK members of extortion and mental harassment, sparking intense political stir.

Selvanandham, apart from his role in the AIADMK’s IT unit, was involved in the maize trade, sourcing from a company based in Palani, Dindigul district. His wife, Muthu Priya, serves as the president of the Navanari Panchayat Council.

According to the audio message he left behind, Selvanandham claimed that a business dispute escalated when Manimaran, the DMK Madurai Zone in-charge, and Muthukumar, an office-bearer of the DMK’s Madurai South District Fishermen’s Association, began pressuring him for money, allegedly acting in the interest of the company. He stated that they had been harassing him continuously for two months.

He further alleged that he was coerced into meeting DMK West Union Secretary S.V. Senthilkumar in Dharapuram, where he was blackmailed into writing a letter under duress. To settle part of the alleged demands, he said he had borrowed ₹10 lakhs at interest and already paid ₹5 lakhs. However, the harassment reportedly continued.

In the voice recording, a tearful Selvanandham said, “He seems to be the DMK’s Madurai District Regional In-charge, P.T. Manimaran. He and his associate Muthukumar, the DMK’s Madurai South Fishermen’s Wing organizer, have been torturing me for the past two days… no, for the past two months. Pavithra Agencies, Pavithra Travels, based in Palani, near Thazhayuthu, called me and made me load maize. After loading the maize, last year they cheated me by demanding a huge sum of money. They took me to SVS chairman in Dharapuram, threatened me, and made me write a document. For that, I borrowed ₹10 lakh at interest and gave it to them. This year, I gave them another ₹5 lakh, whatever I could manage, and told them I’d pay the rest little by little. But they didn’t leave me alone. They continued to torture me, humiliating and degrading me. Furthermore, a person named Srinivasan from Rajavalath, of P.T. Agencies MTS Traders, who is been creating bills for vehicles that never even came to me, diverting the goods elsewhere, and now claims I owe him ₹85 lakh. Last week, he came to check the accounts and said all the vehicles that never arrived actually came to me. He’s deceiving me. He also summoned me to a place called Ottakadai on the Palladam road from Kundadam, and inside his car, he threatened me and forced me to sign two checks: one for ₹40 lakh and another for ₹45 lakh. The RC for my Om Muruga Oil Mill and Traders is in my wife’s name. They are threatening me with 420 (fraud) cases and so on. Because of all this, I’m extremely distressed and have reached a point where I feel like ending my life. Please, nobody should cheat anyone like this. After I’m gone, please don’t trouble my family. My suffering is enough. Please, nobody cheat anyone… I can’t take it anymore.” He died after allegedly consuming poison on 2 July 2025.

Kundadam Police Inspector Batra confirmed that Selvanandham had financial dealings with multiple individuals and acknowledged a transaction dispute. “As per the audio, he speaks of threats. However, no formal complaint has been filed by his wife against any DMK members. We will examine his phone as part of the investigation,” the inspector said.

The suicide of a prominent AIADMK functionary, coupled with serious accusations against DMK figures over a business conflict, has caused a major stir in Tiruppur’s political circles.

The student also accused the DMK IT wing of violating her privacy by circulating her photos and copies of her statements on social media. Furthermore, she claimed that despite filing a complaint at the Director General of Police’s office three days ago, no action has been taken against the accused. She added that the police are instead pressuring her to reveal the names of 20 other alleged victims, rather than focusing on arresting the perpetrator.

In the video the victim student said“When I come out and say, ‘He is doing wrong; he took me out and tried to do this,’ but now I find myself unable to go out. My father is not well, and I can’t take him to the hospital. I’m facing many indirect problems. The police come to my house and take photos, but they are not taking any action. They are treating me like a criminal. Is there no one to deliver justice for women? Given everything that’s happened, I no longer have the confidence to speak to the media. I fear about committing suicide. I initially reached out to the media because I felt that if I were to lose my life, at least my story would be heard. However, they have left Devaseyal like he is a good man, and still, no FIR has been filed. What did CID Officer Srinath say at the DGP office? He told me to ‘go home confidently; an FIR will be filed with your petition.’ However, I no longer have the confidence I once had. After providing my statement, I found that I did not agree with how they approached my case. They did not ask about the important details, yet they have taken a statement in writing that I should not disclose what I said. I do not agree with that. I don’t have the same confidence as I did before I spoke with the media; I don’t have that mindset now.  It’s been three days since my complaint was filed on Saturday, and there has been no action taken so far. He married me under false pretenses. Why is my situation being questioned? I boldly came forward to say that he cheated me and manipulated me into this situation. Instead of addressing my concerns, they are asking me for the names and locations of 20 other women. Am I expected to go and find them for you? Is there truly no justice for women? The public should bring me justice. They have left him free while doing nothing. I am unsure if any processes are ongoing.”

She added that DMK IT Wing members, specifically one identified as “Rahul”, have leaked her photos and statements on social media, violating her dignity and safety, “The media blurs my face (in their reports, but individuals like) ‘Rahul DMK IT wing’ on Facebook continue to strip away my dignity. When I approached Jafar Siddique sir, he said he would look into it and asked if I had his number. Is it my responsibility to collect his number? If I tell him, he’ll ask me if I have the number, so I can see to it.”

The Case Background

A 21-year-old second-year college student from Arakkonam in Ranipet district has come forward with serious allegations against a DMK functionary, accusing him of deceit and abuse under the pretense of marriage. Seeking justice, she reached out to multiple authorities but claimed her pleas were ignored.

On 10 May, during a birthday celebration for AIADMK General Secretary Edappadi K. Palaniswami held in Arakkonam, local AIADMK MLA Ravi was present at the event. The student approached him in public and, visibly distressed, submitted a petition detailing her ordeal and urged him to take action.

In her detailed petition, a 21-year-old student from Arakkonam has accused Deivaseyal, the deputy organizer of the DMK Union Youth Wing and a resident of Kavanur, of luring her into a relationship under false pretenses. Despite being married, Seyal allegedly manipulated her into a second marriage, which was reportedly performed at the Karikkal Temple in Sholingar on 31 January. What began as a seemingly consensual relationship took a darker turn by March, when the student claims he began groom her into sexual activities involving powerful DMK politicians.

When she resisted, Seyal allegedly turned physically abusive, beating her regularly and subjecting her to relentless harassment. She accused him of torture and sexual violence, claiming he openly stated that “his job is to force 20-year-old girls to sleep with politicians.” Describing the abuse, she said, “He would bite me like a mad dog,” and threatened to burn her family alive if she ever approached the police.

Unable to cope with the continued abuse, she attempted suicide by consuming poison on 5 April. Her family intervened in time, and she was rushed to Arakkonam Government Hospital before being transferred to Thiruvallur Government Hospital for further treatment. She later alleged that the police failed to investigate this suicide attempt, further compounding her distress.

Even after she left Seyal’s residence and returned to her mother’s home to resume her studies, the harassment reportedly continued. She claimed that Seyal assaulted her on her way to college, caused physical injuries, and destroyed her mobile phone. “He told me, ‘Complain if you want—nothing will happen. The police are on my side.’ Because of him, I tried to take poison,” she said.

The survivor went on to allege that Seyal introduced her to several other men, implying that she was being prepared for sexual exploitation. “He tortured me inside the car and pointed to men, telling me to sleep with them. I can’t even leave my house now. I couldn’t take my exams,” she recounted. She also said he would publicly humiliate and abuse her, even in front of others.

Her efforts to seek justice were repeatedly thwarted by bureaucratic hurdles. When she approached the Arakkonam City Police Station, she was turned away on the grounds of jurisdiction. At the All Women Police Station, she was told the inspector was unavailable and was advised to go to the Taluka Police Station. Frustrated by the inaction, she took her complaint to the Superintendent of Police in Ranipet, only to be redirected once again to the Deputy Superintendent’s office in Arakkonam, where she alleges her complaint was still not seriously pursued.

With no other recourse, she made a direct appeal to local AIADMK MLA Ravi at a public event, pleading for help and highlighting the police’s reluctance to act due to the accused’s connections within the ruling DMK. The MLA reportedly assured her that he would stand by her and push for justice.

Following growing public outrage and media attention, the Arakkonam All Women Police Station finally registered a First Information Report (FIR) against Deivaseyal based on the student’s formal complaint. However, the survivor says she still fears for her safety and questions whether real justice will follow.
