The Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF) on Thursday wrote a letter to Congress President Mallikarjun Kharge, raising red flags over the violation of security protocols by Rahul Gandhi himself. The letter, raising concerns over the Leader of Opposition’s security protocol breach, has been written by CRPF VVIP Security chief Sunil June.

The CRPF chief, in the letter dated September 10, has accused Rahul Gandhi of not following security protocols and often violating them on multiple occasions. He claimed that the Rae Bareli MP, despite being a political figure with a VVIP profile, was not taking his security seriously.

The development comes on the heels of a security breach at Rahul Gandhi’s visit to Rae Bareli, the Lok Sabha constituency that he represents. During his visit on Wednesday, the Congress MP faced protests and opposition from BJP workers, who blocked the highway and raised slogans like ‘Rahul Gandhi, go back’. While the police tried to disperse the protesters,

Rahul’s convoy stood stuck on the highway for about 15 minutes. Police and protesters were engaged in a verbal squabble, and it was only after the cops prevailed over the latter that Rahul’s convoy could pass through. The CRPF chief also raised concerns over Rahul Gandhi’s frequent foreign tours, which are not informed and reported to his security team in advance.

“In the past 9 months, Rahul violated security protocol during 6 foreign tours. All these 6 foreign tours were done without informing the security agency, due to which the security agency had to face big problems,” the letter reportedly said. Notably, Rahul Gandhi comes under the VVIP category and enjoys Z+ protection cover.

As per the security protocol, VVIP personalities like him, equipped with Z plus ASL security, are required to inform their security agency 15 days before a foreign tour, but the Congress leader has failed to keep the security team informed and updated. Rahul Gandhi’s recent visit to Malaysia was mocked by the BJP as a ‘holiday trip amidst VP polls’ while the pictures also showed him walking on a foreign land, without any security.

The Delhi Police were probing a possible Khalistani link in the blast that ripped through the wall of a CRPF school in Delhi’s Rohini after a threatening social media post went viral.

Delhi Police have written to the messaging app Telegram, seeking details of a pro-Khalistani channel that claimed responsibility for the blast on Sunday, officials said.

The blast sent shockwaves across the national capital. No one was injured in the incident.

Delhi Police have said they were investigating the connection after the Telegram post claimed the explosion was in retaliation for the alleged targeting of pro-Khalistan separatists by Indian agents.

The probe team has sought details about the Telegram channel Justice League India. On Sunday evening, a video of the blast with a “Khalistan Zindabad” watermark at the bottom appeared on the channel.

The video carried a message which claimed that Khalistani operatives were behind the attack and gave open threats.

As soon as the video was purportedly posted, it was instantly circulated on many Telegram channels operating in Pakistan. The Pakistani Telegram channels through which the message was spread are the ones often used to share terrorist activities in Kashmir.

Police sources have said preliminary investigations into the explosion have revealed that it was an IED likely controlled with a remote or a timer without deadly shrapnel and was most probably placed late at night on Saturday.

Locals said the blast occurred between 7.35 a.m. and 7.40 a.m. on Sunday. The residents said an explosion, followed by a foul smell engulfed the neighbourhood. They also said that vibrations were felt in the house.

The ongoing probe by Central agencies has revealed traces of low explosives near the site. Apart from the powder-like substance, wires were also found at the scene. Sources have said that NSG officials also found a battery and wire near the blast site and were investigating if these were part of the incident.

Manimaran, 49, the union secretary of Thirumavalavan’s Viduthalai Chiruthaigal Katchi, who threatened to kill a Central Reserved Police Force (CRPF) soldier for criticizing Thirumavalavan was a history-sheeter with several criminal cases, including a POCSO case for sexually assaulting a school student and threatening her, while he was working as a school teacher.

Gurumurthy, 34, hails from Madurai district and is a CRPF soldier. He has been working for CRPF for the past 13 years and is currently working in the state of Meghalaya. He criticized the VCK chief Thirumavalavan who stoked separatism while speaking at a book release function at his party office in Chennai.

Following that, VCK functionary Manimaran and other VCK goons threatened the CRPF soldier and his family.

The VCK goon had said “You may be in Delhi. Your mother, father and siblings are here in Tamil Nadu only right?”.

Another VCK cadre went on to say “Who are you to speak against my leader? I will take the pulp out of you. I will kill you. I will come to the border and bomb you,”.

This video of VCK goons threatening the soldier went viral on social media.

Tamil Nadu BJP president Annamalai personally called the CRPF soldier and assured him that he would take care of his family and that he need not have to worry about the threat of VCK goons.

Manimaran, who hails from Koovathur next to Cuddalore, is the son of Uththiradam. He is the union secretary of VCK in Laththur and has previously worked as a Tamil teacher in a private school in Pudupatnam. While working as a teacher, he was constantly accused of sexually assaulting schoolgirls.

It has now been revealed that VCK Manimaran sexually harassed a 13-year-old eighth-grade student and threatened to kill her if she told anyone about the harassment. Despite the threat, the schoolgirl complained to her parents, who staged a protest in front of the school on ECR road in August. As a result of a protest by the parents and fellow students, VCK Manimaran was arrested under the POCSO act by Mamallapuram All Women Police.

He is also facing charges of assaulting a government bus driver, threatening the Vayalur-Cuddalore check dam construction contractor for money, threatening a Kalpakkam police officer, and other offenses. He has a criminal record dating back to 2010.

Recently, on November 25th, he and his followers threatened a lorry carrying quarry soil in the Kandigai area near Povunjur and demanded money. When his hooliganism was questioned, a family of Dharman and Karthikeyan was attacked. Later, he was arrested by Anaikattu Police and was lodged in jail. VCK Manimaran has been involved in ten cases so far, including POCSO.

As voters in West Bengal cast their votes in the fourth phase of the assembly election on Saturday (10 April), four people were killed and four others were injured in firing by security forces in Cooch Behar. The security forces opened fire as they were ‘gheraoed’ (surrounded) and attacked by Trinamool Congress (TMC) supporters .

Just before the start of the fourth phase of the assembly election Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee had asked her supporters to gherao central security forces. The Election Commission had earlier issued notice to Mamata Banerjee on Friday to explain her remarks alleging that the central security forces were supporting the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) that she had made in a public rally in Cooch Behar.

The EC in its notice said, “Ms Banerjee is not realising that this kind of statement can create a wedge of distrust between the state police of West Bengal, who are also doing their own duty with the central forces, instead of complementing each other… Far more discouraging is the fact that Ms Banerjee has been trying to make an emotional pitch for the women voters to go to the extent of inciting them to attack the person of central police forces.”

As per reports, around 300 people gheraoed the security forces and attempted to snatch their rifles. The mob also attacked the polling staff. The Trinamool Congress has alleged that the people killed were TMC voters.

Abhishek Banerjee, Mamata Banerjee’s nephew, tweeted, “Heart wrenching reports of 5 innocent people shot dead by Central Forces coming in from Cooch Behar,”. He, however, conveniently forgot that it was his aunt who had asked her supporters to attack the Central Forces in the first place.

Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) leader Pranab Roy said Mamata Banerjee should be blamed for such unfortunate incidents as she had herself instigated people against the central forces.

An official from the EC said that “re-polling will be held in booth no 126/5 in Sitalkuchi area” of the district, in view of the unfortunate incident. A total of 44 seats are up for grab in this phase as the spectre of more violence grows in West Bengal.

In a major development, twelve Maoists surrendered to the police in Chhattisgarh’s Dantewada district on Sunday (July 9). Five of the surrendered Maoists had a reward of ₹6 lakh rupees.

The Maoists are a violent armed wing of the left and have been waging a relentless campaign for decades against the Indian state. Over the years they have been responsible for killing many civilians and security forces.

On Sunday, these Maoists surrendered to the police and the CRPF officials in Dantewada town as a result of the rehabilitation campaign run by the local police.

Dantewada Superintendent of Police Abhishek Pallava told PTI that these people gave up arms because they were disappointed with the hollow Maoist ideology.

This surrender will serves as a big blow to the ultra-left group as one of the surrendered Maoists is Chanduram Sethiya, who was an active member of platoon no. 26 and was allegedly involved in three Maoist attacks, including in Bhusaras-Chingavarm in 2008, wherein 23 policemen and two civilians were killed.

Other four Maoists who had a bounty of  ₹ 1 lakh on their heads are Lakhmu Hemla, Sunil Tati, Manu Mandavi and Maituram Barsa.

“All 12 ultras said in their statement that they were disappointed with the hollow Maoist ideology, and were impressed by the ”Lon Varratu” (term coined in local Gondi dialect which means ”return to your village”) campaign being run by the police in Dantewada,” Mr Pallava said.

One CRPF Jawan was injured on Sunday morning due to an attack at Gangoo, Jammu. He belongs to the ‘182 battalion’ of the CRPF. It is reported that the terrorists had used Improvised Explosive Devices (IED) during the attack. It was reported to be a low-intensity blast.

This incident took place at 7:40 AM (05/07/2020), following which the jawan was immediately rushed to the medical emergency room. It is suspected that the attack was targeted at the CRPF convoy that had been stationed there. The CRPF retaliated with aerial firing. The area has now been cordoned off. A search mission has now been launched to nab the terrorists.

A top police officer said, “A minor IED blast occurred near peaks auto crossing on Pulwahma road when a CRP ROP party was being deployed for movement of their vehicles. One constable GD Praeeep Daas of 182 Bn CRPF has suffered some minor injuries in his hands.”

It is to be noted that Gangoo falls under the Pulwama region, the same place where, on February 14, 2019, an attack by JeM terrorists had martyred 40 CRPF jawans. The bomb assembler of this attack had been recently arrested by the NIA. This is the second attack on CRPF in the last four days. A CRPF jawan and a civilian were killed in Sopore on Wednesday.

The picture of a three-year-old kid sitting atop his grandfather’s dead body after he was shot dead in the Kashmiri town of Sopore has been trending on social media and has caused a nationwide stir. He was shot dead by militants in a crossfire between the CRPF and the militants.

The CRPF, in a statement, had said that they had lost a Head Constable while three of their men were injured. They added that they had got off their vehicles to set up a routine checkpoint when the attack happened. “Militants hiding in the attic of a mosque started firing indiscriminately,” a CRPF spokesman said, identifying the deceased as Head Constable Deep Chand. While they fired back, the CRPF said, the militants managed to escape. This is the second attack on the CRPF in the last three months. In April, terrorists in the valley had fired at a CRPF contingent, killing three personnel.

The area has now been sealed and a search operation has been launched. Officials of the Indian Army and police are also on the spot.

In the light of this incident, a the conspiracy behind the smear campaign targeting the CRPF has surfaced on Twitter, which exposes that there is a coordinated attempt to spread false propaganda against the CRPF. This group, named “Psychological Warfare”, has been operating with the agenda of defaming the CRPF jawans by building a false narrative around this incident using the picture. Messages like “Don’t let them put the blame on the militants” was found in the group. Investigations are underway to find out the whereabouts of the group members.
