The Madras High Court has directed the removal of a newly constructed, illegally encroached Pentecostal church on the Chengalpattu Bypass adjacent to the Chennai-Trichy National Highway in Chengalpattu district, following a petition filed by the Hindu Munnani.

The church was built on Devar Malai/Devar Hill, situated along the Chengalpattu Bypass Road on the Chennai-Trichy National Highway. This encroachment severely impacted the environment, resulting in the destruction of trees, medicinal plants, and local wildlife.

Raja, the district secretary of the Hindu Munnani and a social activist from Sethupakkam, filed a public interest litigation (PIL) after his earlier petition to the Chengalpattu Tehsildar and District Collector to remove the encroachment went unaddressed.

Following a thorough investigation, the Madras High Court has ordered the Revenue Department to conduct a complete survey of the encroachment on Devar Hill and ensure its removal within 12 weeks.

In a social media post, the Hindu Munnani shared the details of the case on its official X account, highlighting its successful efforts in thwarting the illegal encroachment.

The shooting of actor Suriya’s upcoming film was abruptly halted by the police in Vandalur, Chengalpattu district, for allegedly taking place without proper permission. The incident led to a heated exchange between the film’s director, RJ Balaji, and a police inspector.

The production team had been filming in Aamchai village along the Kelambakkam Main Road near Vandalur when police intervened at midnight, bringing the shoot to an unexpected stop. According to reports, the film crew had obtained permission from the village panchayat for the shoot. However, local police officials insisted that filming could not proceed without their authorization.

Suriya, who recently completed shooting for Kanguva directed by Siva, is now working on his next project under the direction of RJ Balaji. The film, currently referred to as Suriya 45, is in full swing, with music composed by Sai Abhayankar.

Sources indicate that the Kelambakkam police inspector had personally inquired about the shoot after noticing the crew filming in the area for two days. Despite the crew’s claim of having panchayat approval, police officials refused to accept it and ordered the shoot to be halted.

It is noteworthy that Suriya spoke against central government policies and against “Hindi imposition” before moving to Mumbai in search of better education for his children and also opportunities for himself and his wife Jothika.

Critics wonder if police halted his film shooting because he has not spoken up for the ongoing DMK protest against “Hindi imposition” and implementation of 3-language policy in the state,

According to the detailed post-mortem examination reports of the 17-year-old boy who was beaten to death in an observation home in Chengalpattu a few weeks ago, the boy’s body showed at least 96 injuries. Gokul Shree, who was accused of theft and apprehended by the Railway Police, was reportedly tortured and beaten to death in an observation home.

Gokul Shree, a 17-year-old teen, was arrested on December 28 by the Railway Police in Tambaram on suspicion of stealing a battery from a railway station. He was sent to a children correctional facility because he was a minor. On December 31, he was rushed to Chengalpet Government Hospital with complaints of seizures, where he passed away within hours.

The preliminary autopsy report showed that the child was subjected to a physical attack, had severe contusions on his legs, and several external injuries on his body. The child was beaten severely before being killed, and the majority of his injuries were were ante-mortem. The parents, however, were not given access to the complete autopsy report.

On the basis of the post mortem report, six prison officials of the correctional facility were arrested. S Mohan, 30, superintendent of prisons, P Vidyasagar, 33, assistant superintendent of prisons, J H Raj, 29, barber at the juvenile home, prison wardens D Vijayakumar, 30, M Saranraj, and teacher R Chandrababu, 40, were arrested.

In this context, the victim’s parents were provided the full autopsy report of the deceased teen Gokul Shri. At a press conference conducted on Monday at the Press Club in Chennai’s Chepauk area, the post-mortem reports were presented to the public. The press conference was attended by the victim’s mother Priya, the Marxist Communist Party’s Chengalpattu district secretary Bharti Anna, and the state head of People’s Watch Organization Aseerwadham.

Bharti told reporters that the boy was tortured by sprinkling chilli powder in his eyes to see if he was deceased, and that the post-mortem report revealed that his body had 96 injuries. They also used sharp pins to prick his eyes to see if he was dead. They also poured hydrogen per oxide into the teens mouth. He went on to say that the victims in the much-discussed Sathankulam murder case were wounded in only 18 places, whereas Gokul Shri was injured in 96 different places before dying.

He added that the child spoke to his mother from a Railway police officer’s phone a day before his death and said he was alright. However, after being lodged in the correctional facility, prison authorities began beating him from 9 a.m. until 2 p.m. He claimed that a team of six officers headed by Inspector Mohan assaulted the child, resulting in his death.

He said, “After being delayed, the matter has now been transferred to the Cri,me Branch, Crime Investigation Department (CB-CID). CB-CID must resolve this case as quickly as possible. On April 12, we will hold a protest in Chengalpattu, demanding the arrest of those responsible for the torture. The post-mortem reports were given to the victim’s family after almost two months.”

Chengalpattu residents, led by Hindu Munnani, protest against G Square, a DMK Stalin family-related Tamil Nadu real estate firm, for allegedly demolishing a temple compound wall to construct drainage for its project in Chengalpattu district.

The Lakshmi Narayana temple in Pallikaranai, Chengalpattu district, is a very old temple that attracts devotees from all over northern districts in Tamil Nadu. Local residents reported on Thursday that the company G-Square, whose promoters are allegedly related to Sabareesan, son-in-law of Tamil Nadu Chief Minister MK Stalin, demolished the temple compound wall to construct drainage for the G-Square firm’s recently started real estate project.

According to the local residents, the construction was not stopped despite their opposition, which forced them to jump into protest along with Hindu Munnani and other Hindu organizations. Members of Hindu Munnani said that they will protest alongside the people until the temple property is handed back.

“G-Square, company related to MK Stalin’s son-in-law Sabareesan, has encroached land belonging to the 1000-year-old Lakshmi Narayana temple. With the support of government officials, G-Square constructed its drainage by demolishing the temple property.”, Hindu Munnani stated in a tweet.

G Square Realtors Private Limited is a real estate company that aggregates land parcels to set up residential plots and commercial complexes. It also sells these land parcels to big corporates to set up IT parks. G Square has gobbled up the real estate spaces spanning Chennai, Trichy, Coimbatore, and Hosur with several luxury housing projects to its name. No other real estate firm has seen a such meteoric rise in a short span of time. This has led to allegations that the company has seen this astounding rise owing to its close ties with the family members of DMK chief MK Stalin. G-Square and the DMK connect can be accessed through The Commune article here.

Testing of the 2-DG drug developed by DRDO and Dr.Reddy’s Lab to treat Corona was held at Chengalpattu Government Hospital.

The 2-DG drug is prepared in powder form to be mixed with water for corona patients. The drug was approved for testing after it was found that the molecules in the drug worked well against corona. At the end of the testing performed in 3 stages, it was reported that the drug was effective in oxygen-dependent corona patients. Following the test results, the Drugs Controller General of India has approved the use of 2-DG for emergency use.

Doctor Vinod who tested 2-DG in Chengalpattu GH said, “The number of covid cases in India was high last year. To address the problem, DRDO collaborated with Dr. Redddy’s lab to create a molecule that was effective against corona. Glucose is usually needed for the virus to multiply in the human body. When a 2-DG drug enters the corona-infected human body, the molecules in the 2-DG drug appear as glucose to corona virus and combines with it. Consequently, the 2-DG drug completely stops the virus from multiplying.”

He further added, “The central government chose 20 Corona centres, including Chengalpattu GH, across India to test the 2-DG drug. The drug was put to the test for the past six months, and 110 patients were tested. Patients who had taken 2-DG took a maximum of 10 days to recover. The drug cuts the length of stay in the hospital, say from eight to four days. The drug can also be given to controlled diabetic patients. Furthermore, this drug should only be taken under the supervision of a doctor.”

The temple priest of Varadaraja Perumal Temple of Arasar Kovil near Maduranthakam in Chengalpattu district was attacked and his poonool (sacred thread) was cut off by two Christian men a few days back.

Kannan Bhattacharyar who along with his family takes care of the daily affairs of the Varadaraja Perumal temple was performing the evening Aarti when Patrick Selvam and Anthony had come into the temple premises in an inebriated condition and were taking photos of the sanctum sanctorum. Photography and videography is strictly prohibited in most of the temples. The Bhattacharyar on seeing these two men clicking photos warned them and asked them to not do so for which they took offence and attacked him. The priest’s family and other workers and devotees who came to the rescue of the priest were also attacked by the two men.

The priest had then lodged a police complaint at the Padalam police station against the culprits. However, the police were not interested in taking action. Later, Hindu Munnani and Andhanar Munnetra Kazhagam (AMK – an organization for the welfare of Brahmins in Tamil Nadu) reached out to the priest. Rajali Jayaprakash, a lawyer and the head of AMK had assured legal assistance and also contacted the police who had said that they have filed a Community Service Register (CSR).

One of the men Anthony is said to be associated with the DMK. A picture of the party even that he attended started doing the rounds on social media.

Fearing arrest, when Bhattacharya and local functionaries were on their way to the police station, the two miscreants Patrick Selvam and Anthony approached them to withdraw the case as it would affect their lives. The generous priest even agreed to it and asked them to seek the forgiveness from the Gods who they have insulted.

The men later issued an apology letter.
