While it’s common for netizens to mock late DMK patriarch M. Karunanidhi on his birth anniversary, this year, his 7th death anniversary on 7 August 2025, took a different turn. Social media was abuzz with a surge of hashtags highlighting how several late political leaders had once portrayed Karunanidhi of being a “fraud,” “traitor,” and “looter.”

These historical clips, cutting across party lines, included serious allegations ranging from corruption and caste-based favoritism to political opportunism and betrayal of public trust.

DMDK Founder Vijayakanth

Among the videos shared was a fiery interview by late DMDK founder Vijayakanth, in which he openly ridiculed Karunanidhi, calling him a “pawn master” who mortgaged the state and benefited his family through schemes like free TVs while allegedly monopolizing cable connections. “He lies through his teeth,” Vijayakanth charged, calling him a “traitor” and accusing him of exploiting Tamil identity politics for personal gain.

In the video late DMDK leader Vijayakanth said, “Ah Kalaignar has done this, Kalaignar has done that. What Kalaignar? What did he do? I am giving him respect and calling him Kalaignar. What did he do? He pawned the state of Tamil Nadu. Even now, he keeps saying race, race. They have killed the same race in Ceylon, and he is talking about race? A regime where nothing was done, what a shameful regime. People must teach a lesson to these two parties, the DMK and the Congress, this is my wish. I already said he is the pinnacle of lies. If I listen, I get angry. He lies through his teeth. The example of what a big traitor he is, that he gave you free television, but he took all the connection charges. This is the truth. Who has the connections (cable TV)? Tell me. Is it with the common man? It is all there with his party people, with him, with his grandchildren, and his son. This is the truth.”

Former TN CM & AIADMK Leader J Jayalalithaa

Another widely circulated clip featured late AIADMK leader J. Jayalalithaa making explosive claims about a supposed election-time conspiracy between Karunanidhi and then Sri Lankan President Mahinda Rajapaksa. She alleged that Karunanidhi was willing to betray the Tamil cause in Sri Lanka to ensure electoral victory for his party.

In the video, late former Chief Minister J Jayalalithaa alleged, “I am bound to inform you of the information I have received regarding Karunanidhi’s conspiracy with Rajapaksa. I have received information from reliable sources that Karunanidhi has hatched a conspiracy with Rajapaksa to somehow win the election. That is, Karunanidhi has contacted and spoken with Rajapaksa. In this election, the situation is very favorable for Jayalalitha because she has expressed the opinion of a separate Tamil Eelam, hence, she has very bright chances of winning . If a central government that listens to her is formed tomorrow, Jayalalitha will send the army to Sri Lanka. If Jayalalitha says, she will follow through. She is capable of making strong decisions. Then you will have problems. Therefore, to prevent that from happening, please listen to what I am saying. Until 13 May, the day of the election, genuinely observe a ceasefire. Only then can I win. If I win and, by my grace, a central government is formed again, you can easily eliminate the Sri Lankan Tamils as you wish. If you help me, I will be a support for you. Therefore, to prevent problems for you, please wait and don’t wage war until 13 May. As soon as the election here is over, you can do as you wish. Trustworthy information has come that Karunanidhi has spoken to Rajapaksa in this manner. If his position is in jeopardy, Karunanidhi will do anything with audacity. I don’t need to tell you about Karunanidhi’s selfishness. Therefore, I appeal to all of you with folded hands to give a crushing blow to the Tamil traitor Karunanidhi in the coming election, so that he cannot rise again or raise his head again. Will you do it? Will you do it?”

Slain BSP Leader Armstrong

One among was slain BSP leader Armstrong recounted how Karunanidhi, despite initially receiving Dalit support, later neglected leaders like Sathyavani Muthu Ammaiyar, who had once championed his rise to power. Armstrong accused Karunanidhi of sidelining Dalit voices and failing to support them in governance.

He said, “Why did I support Karunanidhi? At that time, all the great leaders were against Karunanidhi, but I supported him. The reason was that the others were from higher castes but Karunanidhi was the only one who was from a backward community, a community that was insulted with caste names. What could be be a community that can be insulted with caste names? They’d say, “Hey, call that barber’s (ambatai) son.” It is okay until we are here. Why did Periyar say that villages should be abolished? When you’re in the city, there are no problems. They’ll say, “Come, comrade. Go, comrade.” But when you go to the village, they’ll say, “Call that ‘washerman’ (Vannan) boy,” “call that ‘barber’ (ambatai) boy,” “call that ‘scavenger’ (Thoti) boy.” That’s why Periyar said that village rajya should be abolished. He said this because caste originates there. Therefore, at that time, that was a community that would insult with such derogatory names. That’s why I supported Karunanidhi. I supported him hoping that my community would get some liberation, that he would protect this community. Even when I went to talk to MGR about this, there was a lot of opposition. MGR himself was saying, “Akka, you tell me. I will go to the press and announce it myself. You tell me, as Chief Minister. She says ‘how will they accept me? How will the other communities accept me? I don’t have the financial support, which is important. He is intelligent. Many other people are there, like Navalar and N.V.N., E.V.K. Sampath but they can’t work like him. So, listen to me, he is an intelligent and thoughtful person, and somehow, Sathyavani Muthu convinced MGR then he accepted him. This is the true history. Only he accepted Karunanidhi could become CM. If he had not agreed, Karunanidhi would not have been able to become Chief Minister. If you think MGR had opposed him, Karunanidhi would not have been Chief Minister. MGR would have captured power on that day itself, just as he did when he came out of the DMK. It was Annai Satyavani Muthu who convinced and pacified such a great MGR. After forming such a government and becoming a minister, from the day I became a minister, there was a struggle against Karunanidhi she says. She records every single thing. There was no financial support. The 42 people who died in Keezhvenmani… from appealing against their deaths, to all of them being released, she say Karunanidhi is the reason for everything. So, look at this woman’s integrity. When people buy this book, there are so many people in the DMK. After seeing the book they said the woman who wrote this book’s daughter is in the DMK. I asked if this book was written for the family or for the society? It was for the society. Not only is she a woman, but all the women who have come here are her daughters. This book was written for the society. Therefore, when you read this book today, they keep telling you one thing after another. If you read this book, none of you will stay in the DMK. Nobody will stay in the DMK.”

MMK Leader Jawahirullah

In another video, Manithaneya Makkal Katchi leader M.H. Jawahirullah, speaking in the Assembly, accused Karunanidhi of betraying global Tamil interests, citing his role in upholding the death sentences of three convicts in the Rajiv Gandhi assassination case while sparing only one.

He said, “Former Chief Minister of Tamil Nadu, Karunanidhi, used to call himself the leader of all Tamils worldwide. However, during his time in power, he committed various betrayals against the Tamils worldwide. I can provide a long list. One such instance is when our honorable Chief Minister yesterday, under section 110, had the opportunity to review the death sentences of Santhan, Murugan, Perarivalan, and Nalini. When the DMK government had the opportunity to reconsider the death sentences of these four people, they have only canceled Nalini’s death sentence and confirmed the death sentences of the other three. This treachery is the history of Karunanidhi’s betrayal.”

MDMK Leader Vaiko

In another video, Vaiko, leader of MDMK, in older footage, called Karunanidhi a “racial traitor,” declaring he had condemned him on “a thousand stages” since 2009.

He furiously said, “Is he a Tamil Eeelam leader? Betrayer of Tamil race. How will I reach for an agreement? I have been calling him as a ‘racial traitor’ on a thousand platforms since 2009. How will I reach for an agreement?”

Terrorist Palani Baba

In a particularly controversial clip, Palani Baba, a notorious terrorist, accused Karunanidhi of hollow Dravidian posturing, stating that he exploited religious symbols and personalities for political convenience. Calling him “a man with no principles,” he described Karunanidhi as a political opportunist.

Palani Baba said, “Karunanidhi will just wear a skullcap and drink ‘Kanji'(porridge) during this Ramadan. Don’t do that despicable work  getting up on the stage saying ‘Oh Tamils’ on us anymore, we have been cheated by these performers enough, that’s enough. He may write dialogues. He’ll write dialogues like ‘My dear brethren, May*ru’, but for his own self-interest, who will form an alliance even with Kushboo, will say support from Kushboo, from Silk Smitha. He’s a traitor, he’s one without stable principles, who is ready to sell anything – that’s Karunanidhi. Look at me, I’m the one who worked for Dravidian sentiments and the Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam more than anyone, with all my physical and intellectual labor. No one work like me. If this is my fate, then brothers, just imagine. Do not trust and get cheated by that black cobra named Karunanidhi.”

PMK Founder Dr Ramadoss

In another video, PMK chief Dr. Ramadoss referred to Karunanidhi as “The total embodiment of corruption, the fountainhead of corruption is DMK’s Kalaignar”

CPI Leader Mutharasan

In another Video, CPI leader R. Mutharasan recounted how Karunanidhi allegedly attempted to defame his party’s candidate, labeling such moves as typical of the DMK leader’s manipulative political tactics.

R. Mutharasan slammed Karunanidhi saying, “Kalaignar, who is not even capable of meeting Comrade Thapa, the candidate of the Indian Communist Party, politically. He made someone submit a petition to the election officer, alleging that Thapa had committed land fraud. After submitting a petition here, Kanimozhi went around town campaigning that the state secretary of the Indian Communist Party is a fraud, and all that was going on. Later, it was announced that the petition was accepted at 3 o’clock. Kalaignar knows this. He knows that this objection petition will not be accepted but rejected. Defaming others… if things don’t go his way, breaking a party and defaming others is Kalaignar’s usual practice. This is his permanent trait.”

Former Sr Congress Leader EVKS Elangovan

Congress senior leader EVKS Elangovan voiced deep resentment, claiming that Karunanidhi betrayed many of his allies over the years, including N.S. Krishnan, Annadurai, MGR, and even his own father. “You could write an entire book about how many people he has deceived,” he said.

Senior Congress leader EVKS Elangovan said, “If I have to talk about Kalaignar and how ungrateful he is, I can start from the very beginning. How he cheated N.S. Krishnan? How he cheated Anna? How he cheated my father? How he cheated MGR? How he cheated the acting-singing maestro K.R. Ramasamy? How he cheated S.S. Rajendran? I can keep talking like this… one could write a separate book about it.”

Murders have become alarmingly routine in Tamil Nadu, with three political killings recently occurring across the state. The opposition leaders are outraged, delivering sharp criticism towards the ruling DMK government and demanding the resignation of Chief Minister MK Stalin. Their anger stems from a campaign promise Stalin made before the 2021 Tamil Nadu Assembly elections, where he assured that “Law & Order would be under my direct control. Those who do wrong will be punished.” Since the DMK came to power, Tamil Nadu has experienced a troubling increase in brutal murders, often fueled by caste or political conflicts. These incidents have sparked intense criticism from politicians and the public, arguing that the DMK government has failed to uphold law and order effectively.

BJP Functionary Murdered

On 28 July 2024, unknown men brutally attacked a BJP worker from Velangulam village near Sivaganga. Selvakumar, 53, the Sivaganga district secretary for the BJP cooperative wing, operated a brick kiln in the same area. Yesterday, as he was riding his two-wheeler on the Sivagangai Ilayangudi road, he was ambushed by assailants who attacked him with sharp weapons, leaving him dead before fleeing the scene.

Villagers who discovered Selvakumar’s body lying in a pool of blood were horrified and quickly notified the 108 (ambulance) service and the police. Emergency responders arrived and pronounced him dead at the scene. In response to the murder, the villagers became enraged and began blocking the road, causing delays in transporting the body for a post-mortem examination. Police attempted to calm the situation, but the crowd persisted in their protest, demanding the arrest of the perpetrators.

District Superintendent Dongare Pravin Umesh eventually arrived and addressed the protesters. He assured the protestors that his team would work seriously to apprehend the culprits. This promise led the public to disperse.

The police recovered the body and sent it to Sivaganga Government Medical College Hospital for a post-mortem examination. The police have opened an investigation into the murder and are actively pursuing leads to identify and arrest those responsible.

AIADMK Functionary Murdered

Unknown men brutally murdered an AIADMK functionary near Puducherry during the early hours of 28 July 2024. Padmanapan, 48, a painter and the president of AIADMK’s 25th Ward in Cuddalore, was attacked while returning from a temple festival at Tiruppanambakkam near Bagur. After attending the Koothu and Karkatam performance on Saturday night, Padmanapan and his friend, Ranga (57), a cultural artist, were riding a motorcycle back to Cuddalore.

As they neared the Irulansandai drinking water tank near Bagur, a car came from behind and collided with their bike, causing them to fall. The occupants of the car then came out, fatally attacked Padmanapan with a knife and left him dead at the scene. Puducherry South Superintendent of Police Bhaktavachalam and Bagur Police Inspector Sajith investigated the scene. They sent Padmanapan’s body to Puducherry Katirkamam Government Hospital for an autopsy. Following an FIR, an extensive investigation into the murder is underway.

Initial findings suggest that the murder may be linked to a previous dispute. In 2023, during a ceremony in Cuddalore, Padmanapan had a conflict with Baskar, who was later attacked and died. Padmanapan and others were arrested and imprisoned in connection with Baskar’s death, but they received bail in November 2023. The police have arrested two suspects in the recent murder and are continuing their investigation.

Congress Functionary Murdered

Jackson, a 38-year-old resident of Kunnathu Vilai in the Thiruvattaru area of Kanyakumari district, was a former president of the Thiruvattaru City Youth Congress and currently ran a tempo traveller. He is married to Usha Kumari, the 10th Ward Congress Councilor for Thiruvattaru Municipality.

On 28 July 2024, Jackson was standing near a church when two motorcycles approached, carrying six individuals. They engaged him in conversation, which quickly escalated into an argument. The group then attacked Jackson with knives they had concealed, seriously injuring him. He fell to the ground, bleeding heavily and screaming in pain. Neighbours who heard his cries rushed to the scene, but the attackers fled swiftly on their motorcycles. Residents attempted to pursue the assailants without success. They took Jackson to Asaripallam Government Hospital for initial treatment and then to a private hospital in Thiruvananthapuram. Despite intensive medical efforts, he tragically passed away early this morning.

The murder of the councillor’s husband has shocked the Thiruvattaru community. District Superintendent of Police Sundaravathanam and DSP Udaya Suryan conducted an investigation and discovered that a group led by Rajkumar (32) from the Punnai vilai Vellamcode area were responsible for this murder. The dispute between Rajkumar and Jackson had originated six months ago over an alcohol-related argument, which had previously led both parties to file complaints with the Tiruvattar police. Authorities suspect this past conflict may have motivated the murder.

Usha Kumari has filed a complaint with the Tiruvattar police, stating that Jackson had left on his motorcycle to buy fruit for their children. On his way, he stopped at the St.Antony’s Church near Bharatha Palli to pray. Rajkumar and his five accomplices attacked Jackson after he left the church. Inspector Seethalakshmi and the police have opened a case and are investigating. The police also collected CCTV footage from the area as part of the ongoing investigation.

Other Recent Murders In Tamil Nadu

Let us take a look at the other murders that occurred recently in Tamil Nadu.

Bahujan Samaj Party President Armstrong

Recently, K Armstrong, the Tamil Nadu state unit president of the Bahujan Samaj Party (BSP), was brutally murdered on 5 July 2024 evening near Perambur in Chennai. He was attacked by a gang of six assailants while chatting with friends and supporters near his residence. The attackers, armed with machetes and sickles, threatened anyone who tried to intervene, causing Armstrong’s friends to flee. His family rushed to the scene upon hearing his cries, only to find him grievously wounded and lying in a pool of blood. They quickly took him to a nearby private hospital, where doctors pronounced him dead.

The police are exploring the possibility of a rivalry with a criminal from North Chennai, currently incarcerated, as a motive for the murder. In August 2023, Arcot Suresh and his associate Madhavan were assaulted by a gang near Pattinampakkam in Chennai. During the incident, Arcot Suresh tragically lost his life, while Madhavan survived. Five months later, Madhavan died in another attack by a separate gang. Ponnai Balu, the brother of Arcot Suresh, has been implicated in the murder of BSP leader Thennarsu back in 2015. His other brother, known as bomb Saravanan, is suspected in the murder of Arcot Suresh last year, according to police sources. Currently, Ponnai Balu is accused in the murder case of BSP leader Armstrong. He is the sibling of Arcot Suresh, a notorious criminal who was slain by a rival gang in Chennai the previous year. Chennai police have arrested Arcot Balu, along with seven others, in connection with Armstrong’s murder, a senior police official confirmed. Armstrong, a lawyer, had a troubled past with previous criminal cases, though his legal troubles reportedly ceased a decade ago.

Scheduled Caste Activist Deepak Raja

Deepak Raja (30), a Dalit figure and history-sheeter, was fatally attacked in Tirunelveli, Tamil Nadu, on 20 May 2024 by an unidentified gang of six persons in broad daylight near a restaurant in Palayamkottai’s KTC Nagar. After the gang attacked him, Raja succumbed to his injuries immediately. The Palayamkottai police registered a First Information Report (FIR) under multiple sections of the law, including provisions of the Scheduled Castes and Scheduled Tribes (Prevention of Atrocities) Act.

Deepak Raja had a history of several pending cases against him. In response to the incident, City Police Commissioner Pa Moorthy has assembled six specialized teams to apprehend the perpetrators. Police arrested eight individuals in connection with the crime, and efforts are ongoing to locate others involved.

AIADMK Functionary Shanmugam

In the late hours of 3 July 2024, a 62-year-old AIADMK functionary, M Shanmugam, was tragically murdered in Dhadagapatti, Salem. Shanmugam, who served as the AIADMK branch secretary, was attacked while returning home near the Dhagapatty Mariamman temple area. According to police reports, he sustained severe injuries and died on the spot.

Following a complaint by Shanmugam’s wife, Parameshwari, the police swiftly arrested DMK Ward 55 councillor Dhanabhagiyam, her husband Sathish, and 12 others in connection with the murder. Initially, Shanmugam’s family members and residents prevented police from moving his body, demanding immediate action against the suspects.

Speaking to the media, Shanmugam’s wife, S Parameshwari, alleged that her husband was targeted due to his efforts against illegal lottery and drug sales in the area. She claimed that Shanmugam had previously filed complaints with the Annadhanapatty police station, seeking action against those involved. Parameshwari accused Sathish and Dhanabhagiyam of involvement in the attack. Later that evening, police arrested a total of 14 individuals, including the couple. To investigate the case thoroughly, Salem Commissioner of Police Vijayakumari has formed five special teams dedicated to uncovering the truth behind Shanmugam’s murder.

Congress Functionary Jeyakumar Dhanasingh

The charred body of KPK Jeyakumar Dhanasingh, the District Congress president of Tirunelveli East, was discovered at his farm on 4 May 2024. His son, Karuthaiah Jafrin, reported him missing to the Uvari police two days earlier, expressing concern about his father’s absence since Thursday.

Jeyakumar’s sudden and mysterious death has sparked widespread shock and outcry throughout Tamil Nadu, prompting leaders from various political parties to demand swift justice for what they described as Jeyakumar’s ‘murder’. Meanwhile, the police have launched an investigation to determine whether Jeyakumar’s death was a result of foul play or a tragic suicide.

BJP Functionary Jagan Pandian

In another tragic incident, Jagan Pandian, the Tirunelveli BJP general secretary known for his active participation in public affairs and real estate ventures, was hacked to death near his residence in the Moolikulam area adjacent to Palaiyankottai in the Nellai district.

The unfortunate incident occurred yesterday (30 August 2023) as Jagan Pandian returned home on his two-wheeler after concluding his daily work. After parking his vehicle near his residence, he was standing beside a nearby canal when unidentified assailants attacked him, inflicting fatal injuries before fleeing the scene. Neighbours who rushed to the spot upon hearing Jagan’s cries discovered him lying lifeless in a pool of blood.

The local police arrived at the crime scene, recovered the body, and dispatched it to the Government Medical College Hospital for post-mortem examination. Following an FIR, investigators began reviewing CCTV footage from the vicinity. They also brought a sniffer dog named Barani to aid the investigation. Over a hundred police personnel ensured security while officials launched a comprehensive probe into the incident.

The verbal exchanges between the members of the DMK and Kollywood director Pa. Ranjith, known for his advocacy of Dravidian ideology, have intensified amid growing tensions, especially in light of the recent murder of Bahujan Samaj Party leader K Armstrong. Pa. Ranjith has sharply criticized the DMK for failing to protect marginalized communities, particularly Scheduled Castes, and has called for a CBI investigation due to perceived delays in the state government’s efforts to apprehend the main perpetrators. Minister P.K. Sekar Babu, responding to Ranjith’s criticism, dismissed it by stating he doesn’t know who Ranjith is, brushing aside the filmmaker’s concerns.

The murder of Armstrong, the BSP state president, has sparked significant political unrest in Tamil Nadu, where there have been several recent political killings. Against this backdrop, on 20 July 2024, the Neelam Cultural Centre orchestrated the #MarchforJustice Rally, commencing from the Ramada Hotel to Rajarathinam Stadium and concluding at the Neelam Cultural Centre. The rally aimed to draw attention to the murder of BSP State President Armstrong and put forth the following decisive demands:

  1. Conduct a fair investigation into the murder of BSP State President Armstrong and punish the real culprits. If the investigation is not proceeding correctly, establish a special commission chaired by a sitting High Court judge.
  2. Investigate the background of the Arudra company fraud to expose the involvement of various members in the murder and uncover the truth, as recent investigations indicate significant financial transactions.
  3. Provide adequate protection to Dalit leaders and activists in Tamil Nadu, given the dire need highlighted by the attack on a political figure of great stature, the state president of a national party, and a leader admired by the masses.
  4. Prevent the police from conducting extrajudicial encounters with accused individuals who have been arrested or have surrendered, as seen in the case of Thiruvengadam. Trace the chain of command involved in the murder of Bahujan Samaj Party State President Armstrong and ensure that all perpetrators are brought to justice without prejudice.
  5. Take appropriate legal action against individuals and groups producing defamatory content against Armstrong on social media and media platforms following his successful defamation case before his death.
  6. Establish a committee of Dalit representatives and intellectuals to investigate the recent violence against Dalits in Tamil Nadu and take appropriate action based on the committee’s report.
  7. The Union Government should immediately set up a parliamentary committee to investigate the ongoing violence against Dalits in Tamil Nadu.
  8. Address the lack of notable progress in trials of caste atrocity cases despite the creation of the Tamil Nadu Adi Dravidian and Tribal Commission by the Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam government. Ensure the commission’s activities are conducted firmly and promptly.

These demands largely critique the perceived inefficiencies of the DMK government and underscore concerns over the propagation of Dravidianist ideologies against Armstrong.

Also, Pa. Ranjith, speaking at the March for Justice Rally, openly derided DMK ministers as subservient and questioned scheduled caste representatives for their absence at the funeral of another marginalized leader. He challenged whether their reluctance stemmed from fear of losing their positions, emphasizing that the scheduled caste population in Chennai constitutes 40%, asserting their pivotal role in determining electoral outcomes.

Pa. Ranjith said, “You can scare us all you want. We are not slaves who joined the party as cadres and won MLA. There are women here, ‘You’re not Mayor because you are in DMK. You’ve been made Mayor because there is a word called Reservation. Kayalvizhi Selvaraj should understand why she was appointed Minister for Adi Dravidar Welfare because of reservation. The reservation that was bought by Ambedkar you’ve all earned it, How many MPs, MLAs are there, can you not visit Armstrong’s funeral, what are you afraid of? Can’t you all get together? When will you get rid of this fear? Is your party controlling you? If you don’t speak or fight for the Dalits, then why should you stand in reservation and win.”

Previously, Kollywood director Pa. Ranjith criticized the DMK through his official X account, stating, “We buried the body of brother Mr Armstrong, the state president of Bahujan Samaj Party, who was the victim of a cowardly and brutal murder, without any fuss or tension nor causing any law and order problem. In this life after him, we will carry out the politics of Babasaheb Dr Ambedkar with more determination, even in his brother’s absence. That will be our debt of gratitude to our brother, Mr. Armstrong. Jai Bhim!”Here are a few questions regarding this for the DMK-led Tamil Nadu government and those who are spreading hatred on social media:

  1. The murder took place very close to Sembiyam Police Station in Chennai. With this, we can understand the fear of the killers about the law and order in Tamil Nadu. So, what action plan will you create to restore law and order and prevent such an incident from happening again?
  2. The police department has announced that they have done this to avenge the murder of Arcot Suresh based on the confessions given by the assailants who confessed to the murder and surrendered. The police are only interested in closing the case based on what the surrenderers say. Who planned this? Who directed them? Has the police department concluded that there is no other background for this? What is the police’s position regarding Arudra being behind this? Why are you so indifferent by allowing to surf so many news stories that you don’t know what’s true and what’s false? Why does the media refuse to question this?
  3. When will the government address the recent threat to Dalit people and Dalit leaders? How will their safety be ensured? If this government has created an environment where it is effortless to kill the great leader who was the bulwark of the Dalit people in the capital, it is scary to think of other rural towns in Tamil Nadu. The Tamil Nadu government should let us know its plans to eliminate this tension and threat.
  4. It seems that it was deliberately prevented from burying our brother’s body in Perambur. At the end of the almost two-day drama, we were unwillingly forced to bury him in Pottur, a suburban village outside Chennai. Even though the DMK government has the power, it has resorted to the court and said that this area is not included in the law and order system. Still, this government is doing a massive act of deceit by not allowing him to bury his body in Perampur, where he lived. Undoubtedly, the question of whether this government cares about Dalit people and Dalit leaders will arise.
  5. The most important reason for the DMK government to come to power was the votes of the substantial Dalit population, which is history.  Aren’t you aware that Dalits are the biggest supporters of your regime? Or are you knowingly indifferent? I cast my vote to put you in power. It is with that in mind that I pose these questions. Is social justice just for votes?
  6. The social justice guards and some media were creating an alternative story on the websites, not knowing how to deal with the law and order problem that arose due to our brother’s murder, writing judgments on the person that ‘He is a rowdy’, ‘how can killing a rowdy be seen as a law and order problem’, a doer of extortion’, ‘involved in many criminal cases’. What or Who is behind speaking such conjectures before the horror of the murder subsides?
  7. Dominant class! You call rowdyism when we rise for the sake of our self-respect. You can satisfy yourself by creating such stories against the one who gave away lakhs of books to all comers, who himself would bring liberation to human society, and who promoted Buddhism in the Babasaheb way. However, as each of us knows, words cannot describe the upsurge we have received from those who rise against oppression like Brother Armstrong.

In conclusion, I have been fascinated by the love of my brother since my childhood. After I came to the screen, he was always concerned about my growth and safety, keeping me in the safety loop. He devoted himself uncompromisingly to the political path of Babasaheb Ambedkar. I consider losing my brother as the most significant setback in my life. His words and thoughts will guide me (us) to fix this. Jay bhim!”

Following this, Minister Sekar Babu addressed the press after conducting a field survey near the Stanley Hospital flyover, where he was questioned about comments made by Director Pa. Ranjith regarding support for the DMK. When reporters asked about Ranjith’s remarks, Mayor Priya intervened to clarify the question. In response, Sekar Babu stated that he did not recognize the name “Ranjith” as a director and suggested that he might know him if he were a politician. Minister Sekar Babu said, “I don’t know who he is. I may know him if he were a politician.” This remark has sparked criticism on social media platforms.

During the run up to the 2021 Tamil Nadu Assembly elections, MK Stalin in a campaign propaganda video said “Law & Order would be under my direct control. Those who do wrong, I am saying again, those who do wrong will be punished“. Contradicting to the words, ever since the ascension of DMK to power, Tamil Nadu has witnessed a disturbing trend of brutal murders, often driven by caste or political motives. These incidents have drawn strong criticism from politicians and the public alike, highlighting perceived failures in the DMK government’s management of law and order in the state

In this context, Ananda Vikatan has published a critique of the ruling DMK government, highlighting recent incidents that demonstrate a worsening decline in law and order in Tamil Nadu.

Sandeeprai Rathore, who has recently been transferred from his position as Chennai City Police Commissioner, took pride by stating that the National Crime Records Bureau report states that Chennai is the safest city for women in the country. He also highlighted a significant drop in murder rates during the press meet of BSP leader Armstrong’s murder case, noting that there were 69 murders between January and June 2023, compared to just 58 murders in the same period this year. These figures suggest a decline in violent crime in the city.

Tamil Nadu Chief Minister Stalin also commended the police for their swift action, pointing out that those involved in the murder of Bahujan Samaj Party Tamil Nadu President Armstrong were apprehended on the same night as the crime.

The influence of mercenaries has expanded throughout Tamil Nadu without any formal advertising that there is no need to file a police complaint for issues related to money or property, nor do you have to wait for a court decision. Simply approach us, and we will handle the matter and provide an immediate resolution. In this environment, even trivial disputes can escalate to violence. As the mercenary presence has increased, the cost of human life has surprisingly decreased. However, violent and deadly gangs armed with weapons now roam the streets, creating a deeply troubling trend. The situation is alarming, especially given recent high-profile murders, including the killings of Congress Party’s Tirunelveli East District President Jayakumar, PMK’s Shankar in Cuddalore, and ADMK leader Shanmugam in Salem by unknown assailants.

The ability of mercenaries to target political figures raises serious questions about the safety of ordinary citizens. This issue cannot be overlooked by the current government. The spread of drugs is closely linked to the rise in mercenary violence. While the government may not fully grasp this connection, the public is acutely aware of it. This fear is evident in the way people avoid confrontation with reckless drivers, suspecting they might be under the influence of drugs or affiliated with mercenaries.

Since the DMK government assumed power, there has been a noticeable deterioration in law and order, with drug-fueled mercenaries exerting control. The public is skeptical about Chief Minister Stalin’s optimism for 2026, viewing it as unrealistic in the face of growing crime. Immediate and effective measures are necessary to combat drug trafficking and mercenary violence, or else ‘Peace Park’ will remain nothing more than a symbolic phrase.

The murder of TN BSP leader Armstrong near his residence in Chennai sent shockwaves across the state. Among those who were seen grieving the death included director Pa Ranjith. On 8 July 2024, he made a long post on his X handle which seemed to softly condemn the ruling dispensation.

In his statement, the Kollywood director seemed to imply that this murder was not condemned by other than scheduled caste individuals.

However, Pa. Ranjith subtly queried the DMK, not about the perpetrators behind the murder after 4 days but about the police’s future action plan in his initial statement. In subsequent remarks, he aimed to stifle voices on the internet questioning the government, though paradoxically raised questions about the police’s stance on Arudra’s involvement. Eventually, without directly accusing the DMK due to judicial constraints, he subtly insinuated doubts about the government’s regard for Dalit individuals and leaders. In his final statement, Pa. Ranjith shamefully shifted blame onto ordinary people showing sympathy for the deceased leader, with only DMK supporters defending against accusations that Armstrong was a criminal as propagated allegedly by the media, to deflect from their party’s law enforcement weaknesses.

It is not essentially true that leaders from the Scheduled Caste alone are unsafe in TN. Ever since the DMK came to power, several such instances have taken place. Let us take the date 24 June 2024 for example.

Incidents From June 2024

A 26-year-old youth named Lakshmanan was hacked to death near Minjur by gangsters over frivolous disagreements that occurred at a TASMAC bar while consuming alcohol. This is a common scene at TASMAc outlets across the city and state.

On the same day, in Tambaram, a youth named Surya was arrested because he snatched a mobile phone from another youth named Santosh. Santosh along with his friend Vignesh somehow retrieved the phone but later when Vignesh was found all by himself, Surya, intoxicated by TASMAC alcohol, hacked Vignesh to death.

One more incident at Maduravoyal on the same day – 65-year-old Aasaimani was arrested for killing his son. The reason for this was later revealed to be the fact that Aasaimani’s 35-year-old son would wreak havoc at home after getting drunk at a TASMAC shop and was always consuming ganja and causing trouble every single day. Unable to stand the daily torture caused by the son to the family, the father killed him.

Incidents From May 2024

In Walajabad on 28 May 2024, a lady Suguna was found dead after the thief stole her gold chain and hacked her to death.

On the same day, in Kundrathur, a youth named Rajesh was hacked to death for preventing a thief from snatching his phone.

On this day itself, near Tambaram, an auto driver named Karthik was killed by individuals who were intoxicated. Once again, TASMAC comes into the picture – the auto union leader, a DMK cadre, and his supporters hacked Karthik to death over some disagreement.

Again, on the same day, a person named Thomas was killed over non-payment of loan.

These instances show that there is no parity when it comes to hacking and killing in Tamil Nadu and what Pa Ranjith claimed (that Dalit leaders were unsafe) was untrue.

However, Pa Ranjith never condemned these incidents nor any other incidents that affected Dalit lives. His soft namesake criticism of the DMK over the law-and-order situation in the state is glaringly silly.

It is a fact that Armstrong had the support of a large section of the Dalits in the North Chennai region, and this was seemingly a problem for the DMK. However, Pa Ranjith did not question this aspect.

Interestingly, Armstrong was against the DMK and understood that a person from the Scheduled Caste would not get recognition if they joined the DMK. However, for all the grief that Pa Ranjith displayed, he did not question this.

Be it Vengaivayal or Nanguneri or any other caste-based incidents in Tamil Nadu, Pa Ranjith never raised a finger at the DMK – he would either not write about it at all or would softly criticize the DMK as lip service. Alternately, he would blame the Hindu religion for anything remotely related to caste.

His selective outrage and directed criticism towards the DMK following the brutal murder of Armstrong exposes his casteist mentality. Only when tragedy knocks someone known to him or from his community, Pa Ranjith’s blood boils. Just because Pa Ranjith hails from the Dalit community, it doesn’t make him a saint or a voice of the oppressed. Pa. Ranjith’s selective outrage by voicing out for certain crimes while turning a blind eye to other crimes that happen under DMK’s watch makes him at the very least a silent oppressor and an enabler.

Tamil Nadu Bharatiya Janata Party President K Annamalai has called for a Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) inquiry into the murder of state Bahujan Samaj Party (BSP) chief K Armstrong, raising questions about Chief Minister MK Stalin’s reluctance to involve the federal agency.

Annamalai’s demand came after meeting Armstrong’s family on Monday. He criticized the Chief Minister for his inconsistency, pointing out that Stalin, during his tenure as Opposition leader, had frequently called for CBI investigations. “When the current Chief Minister was an Opposition leader, he used to demand a CBI inquiry for everything. I believe he demanded 71 CBI inquiries in 10 years while being in Opposition. This is a fit case for a CBI inquiry, but what is stopping him from it?” Annamalai asked.

Annamalai emphasized the seriousness of the situation, stating, “Tamil Nadu cannot become a police state. This is an incident that should not have happened in a state like Tamil Nadu, and to a popular leader. Somebody has taken the whole system for a ride, and it looks like a conspiracy. Tamil Nadu Police cannot rest on the fact that some people have surrenderedWho are the people behind it?”

Both Armstrong’s family and BSP supremo Mayawati, who paid tribute to the slain party leader in Chennai on Sunday, have demanded a CBI inquiry. Annamalai echoed this sentiment, noting, “Tamil Nadu has become a land where murders are happening on the one hand and surrenders are happening on the other, people come out of jail very fast and they commit murder again…govt has to first acknowledge…until they let the Police act freely, there is not going to be an end to this menace.”

Highlighting the broader law and order concerns, Annamalai announced that Tamil Nadu BJP leaders, led by Union Minister of State L. Murugan, would brief the media in Delhi and meet with officials from the National Commission for Scheduled Castes and the National Human Rights Commission. “Tomorrow morning, Union Minister of State L. Murugan will hold a press conference. Our leaders are going to meet the officials of the National Commission for Scheduled Castes and submit a petition regarding the atrocities that have been happening to the Scheduled Caste brothers and sisters in Tamil Nadu for the past 3 years. Tomorrow at 5 pm we are going to meet the leaders of the Human Rights Commission and complain about this. We are also going to meet Home Minister Amit Shah and ask for a CBI investigation,” Annamalai said. He stated that the party has identified 17 recent incidents in Tamil Nadu, including the contamination of a drinking water tank with human refuse in Vengaivayal, highlighting a rise in atrocities against Scheduled Castes.

He condemned the assassination of Armstrong, describing it as a brazen act of violence. “We have come to condole Armstrong’s home, who has passed away from us as the state president of the Bahujan Samaj Party. For the first time, a political leader has been killed by mercenaries in broad daylight in Chennai. Not only did the BJP strongly condemn this, senior leaders including National President Nadda heard about it over the phone,” he said.

Annamalai also criticized the DMK government’s handling of law and order, stating, “Law and order maintenance is going on in Tamil Nadu at a snail’s pace. The Chief Minister should wake up and take appropriate measures.”

He underscored the urgency of reforming the police department to prevent further incidents. “When pressure is put on the police, it becomes a police state. For the encounter, the number counter style is gone. But what we are asking is that we take action in advance. The police must do their job properly before an event takes place. Monitoring of raiders, people in jail, and those coming out of jail is essential.”

Addressing rumors about the BJP’s involvement in the Armstrong murder case, Annamalai said, “Regarding the news that a BJP executive has been arrested in the Armstrong murder case, our party does not have such documents. In our party, there are no sources that have given such responsibilities. The party has to show proof of participation in the event. Perhaps if the police show the documents, I will respond as the head of the state.”

In conclusion, Annamalai called for transparency and justice, urging the Tamil Nadu government to hand over the case to the CBI. “Tamil Nadu Chief Minister himself can give this case to CBI for probe because DMK is saying that they are a transparent government. The reality of the case will come out in the investigation,” he stated.

Annamalai and other BJP leaders are set to take their concerns to national authorities, seeking a thorough investigation and emphasizing the need for better law enforcement in Tamil Nadu.

Tamil Nadu has been shaken by consecutive political murders, including the recent brutal killing of K Armstrong, the Tamil Nadu state president of the Bahujan Samaj Party (BSP). On the evening of 5 July 2024, near Perambur, Chennai, Armstrong was attacked by a gang of six assailants armed with machetes and sickles while conversing with friends and supporters near his home. As a leader from the marginalized community, his murder has stirred significant political unrest in the region.

Authorities have reported the arrest of eight individuals, suggesting a motive of revenge behind the crime. However, several political figures in Tamil Nadu argue that those apprehended are not the actual perpetrators.

Following the incident, BSP chief Mayawati criticized the Tamil Nadu government for lack of seriousness in investigating Armstrong’s murder. She called upon Chief Minister MK Stalin to transfer the case to the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI), questioning the state’s law and order situation and lamenting the failure to apprehend the main culprits.

Supporting Mayawati’s demand, BJP State president K. Annamalai also urged the state government to hand over the investigation to the CBI to ensure transparency. He emphasized the need for accountability in handling such sensitive cases.

Previously, Thirumavalavan, chief of the Viduthalai Chiruthaigal Katchi (VCK) and an ally of the ruling DMK, voiced similar concerns, stating that those who surrendered in connection with Armstrong’s murder are not the true perpetrators. He urged the DMK government to swiftly identify and apprehend the actual culprits to prevent damage to its reputation. Thus the murder of K Armstrong has sparked a heated debate and calls for a thorough and impartial investigation into the circumstances surrounding his tragic death.

Amidst rising anger over the spate of political murders, especially the recent killing of a marginalized community’s state president, there has been criticism directed at the ruling DMK government but Kollywood director Pa. Ranjith, known for consistently supporting the DMK’s decisions, once again, has chosen to intervene in the name of condemning the incidents suggested the government should quell dissenting voices on the internet. He portrayed these voices on the internet are portraying Armstrong, who followed the teachings of Buddha, as a troublemaker targeted by the dominant class.

Pa. Ranjith with his official X account stated, “We buried the body of brother Mr. Armstrong, the state president of Bahujan Samaj Party, who was the victim of a cowardly and brutal murder, without any fuss or tension nor causing any law and order problem. In this life after him, we will carry out the politics of Babasaheb Dr. Ambedkar with more determination even in brother’s absence.  That will be our debt of gratitude to brother Mr. Armstrong. Jai Bhim!”

Here are a few questions regarding this for the DMK-led Tamil Nadu government and those who are spreading hatred on social media:

  1. The murder took place very close to Sembiyam Police Station in Chennai. With this, we can understand the fear of the killers about the law and order in Tamil Nadu. So, what action plan are you going to create to restore law and order and prevent such an incident from happening again?
  2. The police department has announced that they have done this to avenge the murder of Arcot Suresh based on the confessions given by the assailants who confessed to the murder and surrendered. The police are only interested in closing the case on the basis of what the surrenderers say. Who planned this? Who directed them? Has the police department come to the conclusion that there is no other background for this? What is the police’s position regarding Arudra being behind this? Why are you so indifferent by allowing to surf so many news stories that you don’t know what’s true and what’s false? Why does the media refuse to question this?
  3. When is the government going to address the recent threat to Dalit people and Dalit leaders? How their safety going to be ensured? If this government has created an environment where it is very easy to kill the great leader who was the bulwark of the Dalit people in the capital, it is scary to think of other rural towns in Tamil Nadu. The Tamil Nadu government should let us know what plans it has to get rid of this tension and threat.
  4. It seems that it was deliberately prevented from burying brother’s body in Perambur. At the end of the almost two-day drama, we were forced to bury him in Pottur, a suburban village outside Chennai, unwillingly. Even though the DMK government has the power, it has resorted to the court and said that this area is not included in the law and order system, but this government is doing a huge act of deceit by not allowing him to bury his body in Perampur, where he lived. Surely the question will arise whether this government really cares about Dalit people and Dalit leaders.
  5. The most important reason for the DMK government to come to power was the votes of the substantial Dalit population is history.  Aren’t you aware that Dalits are the biggest supporter of your regime? Or are you knowingly indifferent? I cast my vote to put you in power. It is with that in mind that I pose these questions. Is social justice just for votes?
  6. The social justice guards and some media were creating an alternative story on the websites, not knowing how to deal with the law and order problem that arose due to brother’s murder, writing judgments on the person that ‘He is a rowdy’, ‘how can killing a rowdy be seen as a law and order problem’, ‘a doer of extortion’, ‘involved in many criminal cases’. What or Who is behind speaking such conjectures before the horror of the murder subsides?
  7. Dominant class! You call rowdyism when we rise up for the sake of our self-respect. You can satisfy yourself by creating such stories against the one who gave away lakhs of books to all comers, who himself would bring liberation to human society, who promoted Buddhism in the Babasaheb way. But as each of us knows, words cannot describe the upsurge we have received from those who rise up against oppression like Brother Armstrong.

In conclusion, I have been fascinated by the love of my brother since my childhood. After I came to screen, he was always concerned about my growth and safety and kept me in the safety loop. He devoted himself uncompromisingly to the political path of Babasaheb Ambedkar. I consider losing my brother as the biggest setback in my life. His words and thoughts will guide me (us) to fix this. Jay bhim!”

In his so-called criticism statement, Pa. Ranjith seemed to imply that this murder was not condemned by people other than scheduled caste individuals. The social media, news agencies, and all political factions rallied in support of delivering justice in Tamil Nadu, a response unseen before. This incident has captured broad attention across society online, excluding DMK sympathizers. Calls for peace restoration in Tamil Nadu are mounting, with grave concerns over the deteriorating law and order scenario, especially regarding the safety of common citizens, where even a state leader is not immune from such violence.

However, Pa. Ranjith subtly queried the DMK, not about the perpetrators behind the murder after 4 days but the police’s future action plan in his initial statement. Ranjith shamefully shifted blame onto ordinary people showing sympathy for the deceased leader, with only DMK supporters defending against accusations that Armstrong was a criminal, to deflect from their party’s law enforcement weaknesses.

Shamefully, Pa. Ranjith refrains from questioning this and instead turns to religious and caste identities, accusing Hindus and the upper caste, stating “Dominant class! You call it rowdyism when we stand up for our dignity,” Who threw support on the front lines stressing the solidarity behind the marginalized leader’s tragic demise.

K Armstrong, the Tamil Nadu state unit president of the Bahujan Samaj Party (BSP), was brutally murdered on the evening of 5 July 2024, near Perambur in Chennai. Armstrong was attacked by a gang of six assailants armed with machetes and sickles while chatting with friends and supporters near his residence.

Witnesses reported that the attackers threatened anyone who attempted to intervene, causing Armstrong’s friends to flee the scene. His family, upon hearing his cries, rushed to the site only to find him grievously wounded and lying in a pool of blood. Armstrong was quickly taken to a nearby private hospital, where doctors pronounced him dead.

The assailants have been identified as V Ponnai Balu (39), K Manivannan (25), K Thiruvengatam (33), D Ramu (38), J Santhosh (22), S Thirumalai (45), G Arul (33), and D Selvaraj (48).

In the aftermath of the murder, a tweet by Varavanai Senthil, a self-identified journalist aligned with Dravidian ideology, and a card-carrying DMK supporter, added fuel to the fire by spreading misinformation. Senthil posted a picture with a caption suggesting that one of Armstrong’s killers, Selvaraj, was the BJP Mandal President (SC/ST Wing) in Thirunindravur.

To counter these claims, the state IT wing Vice President of the BJP Karthik Gopinath clarified via X that the picture of the suspect shared by DMK supporter Varavanai Senthil was no way connected to BJP.

Thirunindravur BJP SC wing regional president Kutty alias Manikandan. This person named Selvaraj mentioned in the picture is not in any charge of the party. To hide their incompetence, the DMK thugs are spreading false news at will!“, he said.

Further clarification came from the BJP Mandal President (SC/ST Wing) of Thirunindravur, who released a video statement: “My name is Kutty (A) Manikandan. Thirunindravur BJP SC Wing Leader. Don’t believe DMK’s fake news!

In a twist, it was revealed that one of the accused, Arul, who surrendered, is a DMK party member.

Photos have surfaced showing Arul honoring DMK leader and ex-minister Avadi Nasar.

The state IT wing Vice president of the BJP Karthik Gopinath tweeted along with the pictures of the accused Arul along with the DMK ex Minister Avadi Nasar exposing his link with DMK.

“DMK IT wing trying hard to establish a connect between every serious crime and BJP to hide their disastrous failure. But the truth is that most crimes are linked to DMK or its government’s misgovernance. Example: In the murder of BSP state president and Dalit leader Armstrong, the accused Arul who surrendered is a DMK party member. He is seen in pics honouring DMK ex minister Avadi Nasar.”, he said.

Viduthalai Chiruthaigal Katchi (VCK) chief Thirumavalavan has emphasized that those who surrendered in connection with the murder of  Bahujan Samaj Party (BSP) chief K Armstrong are not the actual perpetrators. He urged the DMK government to apprehend the real culprits to avoid tarnishing its reputation.

However, Chief Minister MK Stalin in his social media post condoling Armstrong’s death said that those involved in the murder have already been arrested.

Stalin said “Bahujan Samaj Party State President Mr. Armstrong’s assassination is shocking and deeply saddening. The police arrested those involved in the murder overnight.

Armstrong, the president of BSP in Tamil Nadu, was fatally assaulted by unknown attackers in Chennai recently. His body underwent a post-mortem examination at Rajiv Gandhi Hospital in Chennai, and Thirumavalavan paid his respects on 6 July 2024. Following this, Thirumavalavan spoke to reporters outside the hospital, advocating for Armstrong’s body to be publicly displayed at a private school in Perambur, a request that received approval from the Tamil Nadu government.

Thirumavalavan also mentioned the BSP’s wish to cremate Armstrong’s remains at the party office premises, supported by the Viduthalai Chiruthigal Katchi. He urged the state government to facilitate this request. Finally, Thirumavalavan emphasized the need for a thorough investigation to identify and apprehend the true masterminds and perpetrators behind Armstrong’s murder, stressing that the surrender of certain individuals should not prematurely conclude the investigation.

Speaking with the reporters VCK chief Thirumavalavan stated, “The individuals who surrendered in the case of Bahujan Samaj Party Tamil Nadu president Armstrong’s murder are not the true criminals. Therefore, the authorities must arrest those truly responsible for the crime.

Later he said, “Steps should be taken to find the real culprits behind this murder. Those who have surrendered now are not real criminals. All those involved in this murder, including those who incited them, should be arrested. You should not stop the investigation by saying ‘we have arrested the real culprits behind this, ‘ you should arrest all those involved in this murder, including those who incited them. We are making this request to the Tamil Nadu government on behalf of the Bahujan Samaj Party, the Viduthalai Chiruthaigal Katchi and other organisation gathered here.”

Thirumavalavan further said Armstrong has voiced public concerns. Due to this, enmity and animosity arose for him from here and there. The police know this very well. Therefore, the police should have given him protection. Now the police should be vigilant in arresting criminals. We urge you not to be indifferent. Dalits continue to be murdered in Tamil Nadu, especially in the southern districts. Today a political leader was murdered near his home. I would like to inform that if the government fails to stop such mercenary gangs, casteist and murderous gangs, it will lead to chaos. This is a challenge to the police and the Tamil Nadu government.

K Armstrong, the Tamil Nadu state unit president of the Bahujan Samaj Party (BSP), was brutally murdered on 5 July 2024 evening near Perambur in Chennai. He was quickly taken to a nearby private hospital where doctors pronounced him dead.

According to police sources, the gang arrived on three motorcycles around 7 pm, carried out the attack, and fled before supporters could respond. Senior police officials including Deputy Commissioner I Eswaran and Assistant Commissioner Praveen Kumar visited the crime scene. A special investigative team under Sembium Inspector of Police Chiranjeevi has been formed to apprehend the suspects, and security in the area has been tightened to prevent further violence.

Five months later, Madhavan himself was killed in another attack by a separate gang. Ponnai Balu, the brother of Arcot Suresh, has been implicated in the murder of BSP leader Thennarsu back in 2015. His other brother, known as bomb Saravanan, is suspected in the murder of Arcot Suresh last year, according to police sources. Currently, Ponnai Balu is accused in the murder of BSP leader Armstrong. He is the sibling of Arcot Suresh, a notorious criminal who was slain by a rival gang in Chennai the previous year. Chennai police have arrested Arcot Balu, along with seven others, in connection with Armstrong’s murder a senior police official confirmed.

Armstrong, a lawyer by profession, had a troubled past with previous criminal cases, though his legal troubles reportedly ceased a decade ago. He rose to prominence through his association with former Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Mayawati, organizing rallies in Chennai and establishing himself as a prominent Dalit leader despite the BSP’s limited influence in Tamil Nadu. So far, 8 suspects have been arrested.
