A controversy has erupted after social media posts attributed to Harjeet Singh (FTWHarjeet), reportedly an employee of Amazon, surfaced online showing patterns of anti-Semitic and anti-Hindu hate speech, terror glorification, and violent rhetoric.

He also allegedly claims he has worked with the Indian Air Force (the LinkedIn profile also reflects that).

He even claimed so in some of his posts on his handle. For example, when he shared about his podcast discussion with a PAF pilot about Operation Sindoor, badmouthing India.

Khalistani Allegiance

Screenshots and archived posts reviewed by independent users indicate that Singh allegedly shared content praising Babbar Khalsa, a US-designated terrorist organization responsible for bombings that killed over 300 people, including Canadians and Americans.

Analysts tracking online extremism described his conduct as an example of “radical propaganda finding cover under corporate anonymity.”

In multiple posts, Singh is seen posing with a firearm, using it as a symbol of aggression and resistance. Commentators have expressed concern that this was more than performative posturing, calling it a “direct display of hate and intimidation.”

He has also made several threats to Hindus on his X handle.

Targeted Hate And Harassment

According to digital investigators, Singh allegedly engaged in targeted harassment of Jewish individuals and made anti-Hindu attacks, often using derogatory or inflammatory language. In several instances, he appeared to justify or glorify violent movements associated with Khalistani separatism.

He has also made anti-India posts while showing off his Air Force credentials.

Reports further claim that Singh made politically motivated posts targeting elected officials, including California Governor Gavin Newsom, making derogatory posts such as the below and accusing them of suppressing Sikh and Islamic identities.

Extremist Rhetoric And Propaganda Themes

His social media activity reportedly included claims that Islam and Sikhism were under threat, while Hindus and Hinduism were portrayed as oppressors. In one thread, Singh allegedly expressed hope that Khalistani and Pakistani forces would “take over India,” invoking familiar narratives used in extremist circles.

Here are some pro-Khalistani posts he made.

Singh also reportedly amplified content aligned with Dravidianist and separatist ideologies, connecting them with broader anti-India propaganda networks.

Account Withheld In India

Following multiple reports and complaints, Singh’s X (formerly Twitter) account has been withheld in India, indicating that local authorities or the platform may have found his content in violation of Indian laws relating to hate speech or incitement. Despite this, the account remains active in other regions, where the inflammatory material continues to circulate.

Corporate Accountability Questions

Observers and advocacy groups have urged Amazon to take note of the allegations, arguing that such conduct violates workplace ethics and the company’s diversity, equity, and inclusion (DEI) policies.

The matter has sparked a broader conversation about corporate responsibility in monitoring employees’ extremist affiliations, especially in influential positions where online conduct can impact brand integrity and public trust.

As of now, Amazon has not publicly responded to the allegations.

Online marketplace Amazon India on Monday announced that it has created over 1.5 lakh seasonal work opportunities in the country due to the increased demand in the festive season. “These include direct and indirect work opportunities in 400+ cities, including Mumbai, Delhi, Pune, Bangalore, Hyderabad, Lucknow, Cochin, Coimbatore, Indore, Raipur, etc.”

Job opportunities were created for thousands of women associates and over 2000 PWDs (differently abled people), and the company has already onboarded many of these new associates, a release from Amazon India said. The seasonal jobs are available in fulfilment centres (FCs), sort centres, and last-mile delivery stations.

“Many of these new associates continue their journey with Amazon beyond the festive period, with a significant number returning to work with us year after year,” said Abhinav Singh, VP – Operations, India &Australia, Amazon.

“Throughout our operations, we prioritise the safety and well-being of all associates—whether they’re working in our buildings or delivering packages to customers,” he said. “We remain dedicated to fostering a safe, equitable, and empowering work environment that includes social security benefits and supports the financial well-being of all our team,” Singh added.

Amazon has increased the number of Ashray rest centres in India to 100 to support the well-being of its associates in the e-commerce network, the release said. Further, it claimed to provide free health check-ups to over 80,000 delivery associates across major cities, offering comprehensive services that include eye, dental, BMI, and physician consultations.

Additionally, an on-site first aid (‘AMCARE’) facility is available at the fulfilment centres to anyone who needs immediate first-aid attention or rest. “The Early Access to Pay (EATP) programme allows associates to withdraw up to 80 per cent of their accrued basic salary within the first 20 days of each month, promoting financial flexibility and wellness,” the company said.

Blue Origin, owned by Amazon founder Jeff Bezos, said on Tuesday that it is targeting January 10 for the launch of its massive new rocket, New Glenn.

“New Glenn’s inaugural mission (NG-1) is targeting no earlier than Friday, January 10, from Launch Complex 36 at Cape Canaveral Space Force Station, Florida,” the company said in a blog post.

“NG-1 is our first National Security Space Launch certification flight,” it added. New Glenn will carry a payload — Blue Ring Pathfinder, which will test key systems for the Defense Innovation Unit’s Orbital Logistics programme.

The company noted that the mission’s main aim is to reach orbit safely. It also plans to make an “ambitious” landing of the booster in the Atlantic — the company’s first try offshore. “This is our first flight, and we’ve prepared rigorously for it,” said Jarrett Jones, SVP, New Glenn. “But no amount of ground testing or mission simulations is a replacement for flying this rocket. It’s time to fly. No matter what happens, we’ll learn, refine, and apply that knowledge to our next launch,” he added.

In December, Blue Origin announced that New Glenn successfully completed the crucial hot-fire test. It was the first test of the integrated launch vehicle.

During the test, the vehicle remained firmly clamped to the launchpad at Cape Canaveral Space Force Station in Florida. After the hot-fire test, the encapsulated Blue Ring Pathfinder was integrated into the launch vehicle.

The company also received a commercial space launch license for New Glenn’s launch from the US Federal Aviation Administration (FAA). “Blue Ring Pathfinder integrated. Launch license received. Here we go!” said Dave Limp, CEO, of Blue Origin in a post on social media platform X.

New Glenn’s debut launch was originally targeted for 2020 but delays in the BE-4’s development have postponed it repeatedly. Standing 98 metres tall, New Glenn is the largest and most powerful rocket ever built and launched. It is named after NASA astronaut John Glenn, the first American astronaut to orbit Earth, completing three orbits in 1962.

Amazon CEO Jeff Bezos has announced that he will leave his post later this year and has named the company’s top cloud executive, Andy Jassy as his successor. Jassy, 53, is set to take the helm in the third quarter.

In his announcement on Tuesday, Bezos said that he will transition to executive chairman of Amazon’s board.

Bezos, who is now 57, founded Amazon in 1994. The company has since then morphed from an online bookstore into a mega-retailer with global reach, selling a slew of different products, from gadgets to groceries to online streaming. Amazon surpassed a $1 trillion market cap under Bezos’ leadership in January of last year. It is now worth more than $1.6 trillion.

Amazon had kept its succession plans quiet, though it was speculated that either Jassy or Jeff Wilke, CEO of Amazon’s worldwide consumer business, would be Bezos’ eventual successor. In August, Amazon announced Wilke will retire in 2021.

Jassy joined Amazon in 1997 and has led Amazon’s Web Services cloud team since its inception. AWS continues to drive much of Amazon’s profit.

“I’m excited to announce that this Q3 I’ll transition to Executive Chair of the Amazon Board and Andy Jassy will become CEO,” Bezos said in a letter to employees. “In the Exec Chair role, I intend to focus my energies and attention on new products and early initiatives. Andy is well known inside the company and has been at Amazon almost as long as I have. He will be an outstanding leader, and he has my full confidence.”

Bezos said in his letter that he will stay engaged in important Amazon projects, but will also have more time to focus on the Bezos Earth Fund, his Blue Origin spaceship company, The Washington Post and the Amazon Day 1 Fund.

“As much as I still tap dance into the office, I’m excited about this transition,” Bezos said in the internal announcement. “Millions of customers depend on us for our services, and more than a million employees depend on us for their livelihoods. Being the CEO of Amazon is a deep responsibility, and it’s consuming. When you have a responsibility like that, it’s hard to put attention on anything else.”

Shares of Amazon were up about 1% in extended trading Tuesday on the back of an earnings report, in which Amazon posted its first $100 billion quarter. AWS, under Jassy, reported 28% revenue growth for the fourth quarter. About 52% of Amazon’s operating income was attributed to AWS as of October 2020. The company’s stock has gained about 4% so far in 2021 and is up nearly 70% in the last 12 months.

Brian Olsavsky, Amazon CFO, said that the executive change was decided in consultation with Amazon’s board of directors. He said Bezos will remain very involved and have his fingerprints on lots of different parts of the company. Olsavsky said Jassy is a visionary leader who will bring his own skill set but that the company expects a lot of continuity with the transition.

Amazon has taken a lot of flak in recent months over anti-trust complaints in the EU and the US. In October, after a 16-month investigation into competitive practices at big tech companies including Amazon, the House Judiciary subcommittee on antitrust concluded that Amazon, Apple, Facebook and Google enjoy monopoly power.

Soon after Bezos’ announcement, Rep. Ken Buck, R-Colo., a member of the House Judiciary Committee, said on Twitter that he has questions for Jassy.

E-commerce giants Amazon and Flipkart may be hurt as India is considering revising its foreign investment rules for e-commerce, amid increasing complaints from India’s bricks-and-mortar retailers. This move that could compel players, including Amazon.com Inc, to restructure their ties with a few major sellers in the market.

Complainants have, for years, accused Amazon and Walmart Inc-controlled Flipkart of creating complex structures to bypass federal rules. However, the the US companies deny these allegations. Domestic traders also see foreign e-commerce businesses as a threat to their livelihoods and accuse them of unfair business practices, like using steep discounts to rapidly target buyers. The companies deny they are acting unfairly.

India only permits foreign e-commerce players to operate as a marketplace to connect sellers and buyers. It prohibits foreign e-commerce companies from holding inventories of goods and directly selling them on their platforms. Amazon and Walmart’s Flipkart were adversely hit in December 2018 when investment rule changes barred foreign e-commerce players from offering products from sellers in which they have an equity stake.

Currently, it is believed that the government is considering adjusting a few of the provisions, to prevent e-commerce players from offering products from sellers in which they have an indirect stake. The proposed changes, if approved, could hurt Amazon as it holds indirect equity stakes in two of its biggest online sellers in India.

Policy changes in 2018 affected India-US relations

The 2018 rules forced Amazon and Flipkart to rework their business structures. It also soured relations between India and the United States, as Washington said the policy change favoured local e-tailers over U.S. ones. India’s e-commerce retail market is estimated to grow from $30 billion in 2019 to a whopping $200 billion a year by 2026, according to the investment promotion agency Invest India. The COVID-19 pandemic also drove more shoppers online.

India’s Commerce and Industry Minister Piyush Goyal has been critical of e-commerce companies. In the face of growing trader complaints and an antitrust investigation, Piyush Goyal last year said that Amazon was not doing a great favour to India by making fresh investments.

The government may also be considering changes that would effectively prohibit online sales by a seller who purchases goods from the e-commerce entity or its group firm, and then sells them on the entity’s websites. Under existing rules, a seller is free to buy up to 25% of its inventory from the e-commerce entity’s wholesale or another unit and then sell them on the e-commerce website.

Everyday, one comes across news of horrific crimes being perpetrated upon Hindu women by Muslim men in one part of the country or the other. Such events have become so ubiquitous that no more do they cause the discomfort, rage and distress that such crimes must do in our minds. This social menace – of men from a particular community selectively targeting Hindu women – has also forced the State Governments of Uttar Pradesh, Madhya Pradesh and Himachal Pradesh to bring about laws in a bid to curb these appalling crimes.

In a further shocking development, Amazon’s Kindle Store has been circulating pornographic and rape fantasy content on its platform, explicitly portraying Hindu women and Muslim men.

Journalist Swati Goel Sharma reported yesterday that there are at least 90 pornographic and rape fantasy books on Amazon’s Kindle Store that portray Muslim men having extramarital, often forced, sexual relationships with Hindu women. All these books are available on Kindle Store for an annual subscription fee. The Kindle Direct Publishing Service also makes it easier for any unscrupulous writer and publisher to sell such pornographic and rape fantasy literature on the Kindle platform.

The book covers feature men wearing skull-caps and sporting beards, while the women are scantily-clad and are wearing bindis. Furthermore, the Hindu women in the books are depicted as coming from “conservative”, “Iyer”, “religious”, ‘upper middle class”, “religious” backgrounds. By using derogatory phrases like “Madrasi prostitute” and “whore Hindu bitch”, the women are also dehumanized in the eyes of the reader. While one book gives a story of a Muslim “mafia don” raping a married Hindu woman, another presents a story of a married Hindu woman having sexual liaisons with two Muslim “mafia brothers”. It is noteworthy that in almost all the pornographic books, the men are not only Muslims but also have a criminal career, whereas the women are not only Hindu but are also married. The books are clearly meant to appeal to the male audience of a certain community. One can only speculate how men from that community who read such content would act around Hindu women, and if at all, make attempts at fulfilling this ‘fantasy’ in real-life. In fact, there are several scary real-life parallels of the rapes and other crimes portrayed in these books, as has often been reported by Swati Goel Sharma herself. More often than not, Hindu women have been killed by Muslim women for rejecting their advances. Videos of barbaric rapes and gang-rapes of  Hindu women by Muslim men have even been circulated on WhatsApp.

NCW reacts

Reacting to all this, the National Commission for Women has written to Amazon India, and has asked Amazon to take measures to stop the transmission of content that would “perpetrate and promote crime against women and convey a wrong message to the society”.

“Moreover, e-commerce websites shall not be instrumental in dissemination of pornographic and rape content as it violates provisions of law,” the NCW said in a statement.

MHA asked to investigate; Kindle replies

Swati Goel Sharma and her lawyers have also written to the Ministry of Home Affairs (MHA) to probe the matter and to find out who is behind the publication of this content.

Kindle has also replied, stating that they “are investigating this matter”.

The Chennai Police had nabbed a gang that stole, hijacked and sold Royal Enfield two-wheelers a few days ago. Seven people that included Mohammad Nabi, CB, Ibrahim, Antony, Amir Khan and Kadhiravan were arrested. The police investigation revealed that they were operating as gold snatchers and were involved in bike theft and chain snatching while working in food delivery companies during the day. For the past three years, criminals have been using the uniforms of Swiggy, Zomato and Amazon to steal and sell Royal Enfield motorbikes.

Chennai Police Commissioner Mahesh Agarwal has ordered an inquiry into the criminal background of the new recruits.

Following this incident, the Chennai Police has ordered online food delivery companies to hire new people only after the candidates obtain a conduct certificate from the police.

It has also been found that these criminals in the guise of delivery agents are involved in drug trafficking, burglary and chain robbery. Therefore, in order not to curb these incidents, the Chennai City Police has ordered the online business and food delivery companies to obtain a certificate of conduct from the police before recruiting new people for their companies.

Amazon CEO Jeff Bezos has said that his company plans to create a million jobs in India by 2025. Amazon is looking to create thousands of job opportunities in India, by expansion of its warehouses as an immediate measure.

These expanded warehouses are expected to be an addition to the existing 60 warehouses, or fulfillment centres, in 15 states, with a total storage capacity of over 32 million cubic feet, the company said in a blog post on Thursday (23 July). The expansion is touted to increase amazon’s capacity to an extent of close to 10 football fields.

“With the expanded network of more than 60 fulfilment centres, we look forward to creating thousands of job opportunities with competitive pay,” Akhil Saxena, Vice President, Customer Fulfilment Operations, APAC, MENA & LATAM, Amazon India, said in a statement. “Our investment in infrastructure and technology is to provide sellers with closer access to Amazon’s fulfillment offerings, customers with faster delivery on a wider selection of products and help ancillary businesses such as packaging, transportation and logistics,” he added.

These warehouses are to be situated at Delhi, Mumbai, Bengaluru, Patna, Lucknow, Kolkata, Hyderabad, Chennai, Ludhiana and Ahmedabad, and are said to make the experience more customer and retailer friendly.

Amazon had sent out an internal email to its employees telling them to delete the Chinese-owned TikTok app.

After a few hours, the company announced that it was a “mistake” and clarified that there is no change in policy regarding TikTok.

“The TikTok app is no longer permitted on mobile devices that access Amazon email,” the email read.

The employees had to delete the TikTok app to retain their mobile access to their company email.

It was clear that the email was related to the new National Security Law implemented by China and focused on geopolitical concerns as it cited the app’s “security risks.”

Amazon spokeswoman Jaci Anderson denied to answer any question about what caused the “mistake.”

TikTok said that they did not notify them before sending the email on Friday.

TikTok also said that they would welcome a discussion to address their issues with the app as they “didn’t understand Amazon’s concerns.”

A TikTok spokeswoman declined to comment further Friday evening.

Deforestation in Amazon has hit the roof in the last couple of years under the government of Jair Bolsanaro who recently was tested positive for COVID-19.

Facing backlash over the brazen environmental destruction, the Jair Bolsanaro government has put forward a four-month ban on fires in the Amazon and Pantanal regions.

The Environment Ministry will draft the decree.

In 2019, the government banned fires for 60 days followed by another 60 days.

The government has been receiving criticism from international investors urging to take strict action against the deteriorating conditions of Amazon forest.

In response to the criticism, they hope to use the moratorium to prove that they are against the destruction of the environment.

On Tuesday, a group of companies such as pulp maker Suzano SA, meatpacker Marfrig Global Foods SA, and agribusiness giant Cargill Inc. expressed that the negative perceptions are damaging the name of their business prospects via a letter which was sent to the authorities.

Environment Minister Ricardo Salles urged Bolsonaro to take advantage of global leaders’ Covid-19 blinders to simplify regulations.

In early June, Amazon Environmental Research Institute, known as Ipam, warned that an area 11 times the size of New York City could be incinerated in the dry season.

National Institute for Space Research data showed that the first month of the dry season, fires in this biome rose to a 13-year high.

In Pantanal, the world’s largest wetland area, the number of fires in June this year is more than double of those recorded last year.
