The Tamil Nadu Legal Wing of the All India Congress Committee Minority Department has issued condemnation and announced a protest against Karunya Institute of Technology & Sciences (KITS), Coimbatore, after the institute barred a student from attending his semester exams despite a Madras High Court order staying his expulsion.

The student, Sam Tyndale PS, a B.Tech Biotechnology candidate, was expelled from the university on 24 March 2025, through an order issued by the Director of Student Affairs. Alleging that the expulsion was carried out without prior notice or an opportunity to be heard, Tyndale’s father filed a writ petition (W.P. No. 16738 of 2025) before the Hon’ble Madras High Court.

On 30 April 2025, Justice N. Mala passed an interim order staying the expulsion until 2 June 2025. The court observed that a prima facie case had been made, noting that the expulsion was against the principles of natural justice.

Despite the stay order, the university reportedly denied Tyndale entry to write his practical and semester examinations, claiming they had not received a formal copy of the court’s ruling. However, the order is publicly available on the Madras High Court website, and it contains a QR code accessible via mobile devices. Furthermore, Karunya University’s legal representatives are said to be aware of the ruling, making the denial a potential case of contempt of court.

Tyndale’s parents, who were present on the university campus, called the police for assistance after the student was turned away. However, the issue remained unresolved as both the university authorities and police allegedly failed to act fairly.

Advocate T. Hubertson, Legal Wing In-Charge of the AICC Minority Department in Tamil Nadu, condemned the university’s defiance of the court order and announced a protest to be held outside Karunya Institute of Technology & Sciences on 3 May 2025, at 10:00 AM. He further demanded that the university be held accountable for violating a judicial directive and suppressing a student’s right to education.

Vishwabandhu Rai who is a member of the All India Congress Committee (AICC) from Maharashtra, has written a letter to AICC chief Sonia Gandhi, to stop Rajya Sabha member and former chief minister of Madhya Pradesh Digvijiaya Singh from issuing anti-Hindu statements.

In a statement given to the media, Rai said, “He (Digvijaya Singh) has been making Hindu voters angry by his statements. Still, the party has been giving him top posts in the organisation and also has been sending him to Rajya Sabha. His comments have alienated Hindu voters. This is the reason that Congress party has been losing elections from local bodies to Lok Sabha,”.

In his letter, whose copy is now available with the Free Press to Sonia Gandhi, he wrote, “For making a particular community happy, Digvijaya Singh has been hurting sentiments of majority people. The opposition has successfully managed to brand him as anti-Hindu. He must stop issuing anti-Hindu statements so that the Congress party can regain belief of Hindus. If he is not stopped, the party will lose rest of Hindu voters. Party will also not survive.”

Rai also demanded an inquiry into the role of Digvijaya Singh in the downfall of the Kamal Nath government in Madhya Pradesh. “There are several instances, where the role of Singh appears suspicious. His role in every event that caused damage to the party must be probed,” he said.

Talking to journalists, Madhya Pradesh Home Minister Narottam Mishra said it is not the first time that a Congress leader has raised questions on Digivijaya Singh. “Earlier, senior Congress leader Kamal Nath and Umang Singhar had also issued statements against him (Digvijaya Singh),” he said.
