A former state secretary of the All India Majlis-e-Ittehadul Muslimeen (AIMIM), Kashif Zubairi, faces allegations of raping a Hindu woman and coercing her to convert to Islam.

On September 30, the victim lodged a zero FIR at Tonk police station. According to Tonk SP Rajesh Meena, since the incident occurred in Jaipur, the zero FIR was transferred to the appropriate Jaipur police station for further action.

Reports indicate that the victim, a married woman with a child and a practicing advocate, has been living apart from her husband due to domestic issues. Allegedly, Zubairi, also an advocate, exploited her vulnerability, engaging in sexual relations with her under the false promise of marriage.

Some accounts claim Zubairi took the woman to a flat in Jaipur, where he gave her tea spiked with sedatives and raped her. When confronted, he allegedly reassured her with marriage promises. The victim further stated that Zubairi repeatedly pressured her to divorce her husband and had sexual relations with her multiple times in the Jaipur flat. She became pregnant once but suffered a miscarriage.

Zubairi later refused to marry her and allegedly blackmailed her using explicit photos and videos. Additionally, the victim claimed Zubairi coerced her and her 10-year-old child to convert to Islam and forced her to sign blank papers.

On August 15, the victim visited Zubairi’s parents in Tonk to discuss the matter, but they rebuked her and sent her away. On September 30, she approached Zubairi again in Tonk, but he dismissed her and threatened her life, prompting her to file a police complaint.The police are currently investigating the case.

What Had Akbaruddin Owaisi Said?

In 2013, at a public meeting, Owaisi said, “Hindustan, you’re 100 crores, we are 25 crores, you are more than us. Just remove the police for 15 minutes, we will show you who has more courage and who is stronger.”

Owaisi’s speech and the words have been repeated several times over the years to threaten Hindus.

In September 2023, during the Barawafat procession in Kushinagar, Uttar Pradesh, a minor on a trolley was holding a placard that read, “Remembered 15 minutes?” Meanwhile, an audio recording of the above hate speech by Hyderabad-based AIMIM leader Akbaruddin Owaisi was playing on the same trolley where he had previously threatened to remove police for 15 minutes so that Muslims could eliminate Hindus.

Syed Moin repeated this in his speech from 3 months ago in Nanded. However, no action seems to have been taken against the hate speech peddled for decades.

Two complaints were filed against All India Majlis-e-Ittehadul Muslimeen (AIMIM) leader and Member of Parliament representing Hyderabad, Asaduddin Owaisi, for sloganeering “Jai Palestine” while being sworn in as a member of the 18th Lok Sabha on 25 June 2024.

Owaisi has been elected to the Lok Sabha for the fifth time and expressed his commitment to addressing the concerns of India’s marginalized communities sincerely. Despite facing chants of “Jai Shri Ram” from BJP MPs during his oath-taking, Owaisi took his oath in Urdu and concluded with “Jai Bhim, Jai Meem, Jai Telangana, Jai Palestine.”

In this context, the Hyderabad MP’s oath and loyalty are being seen in conflict with constitutional principles outlined in Articles 102 and 103 of the Indian Constitution. Hari Shankar Jain, a revered Supreme Court counsel, has officially lodged a complaint with the President of India regarding this matter. Sharing this information via the official X account, Vishnu, son of Hari Shankar Jain, stated, “A complaint has been filed before the President of India against Mr. Asaduddin Owaisi in terms of article 102 and 103 of the constitution of India by Mr. Hari Shankar Jain seeking his disqualification as member of parliament. @rashtrapatibhvn @adv_hsjain“

Another social activist and advocate practising in the Supreme Court Adv. Vineet Jindal filed a Complaint under Article 103 of the Constitution of India with the President of India seeking disqualification of Asaduddin Owaisi, MP under Article 102 (4) for showing his allegiance or adherence to a foreign State “Palestine”.

What Does The Constitution Say?

Article 102 of the Constitution deals specifically with the disqualification of members of Parliament. Article 102(1)(d) states that a person shall be disqualified from becoming or remaining a member of either House of Parliament if they acknowledge allegiance or adherence to a foreign State. Article 103 of the Constitution outlines that if there is any question regarding whether a member of Parliament has incurred any disqualification mentioned in Article 102(1), such a question shall be referred to the President for decision. The President’s decision in such matters is final, and before making a decision, the President is required to seek the opinion of the Election Commission and act accordingly based on that opinion.

Previously, in the 2019 session, Owaisi had concluded his oath by saying “Jai Bhim, Allah-o-Akbar, and Jai Hind.” Owaisi secured victory against BJP candidate Madhavi Latha by a margin of 3.3 lakh votes in the Hyderabad constituency during the 2024 Lok Sabha elections.

Addressing the controversy surrounding his chant, Owaisi emphasized that there exists no constitutional prohibition against his declaration of “Jai Palestine.” 

Union Minister G Kishan Reddy criticized Owaisi’s “Jai Palestine” slogan as being “completely inappropriate” and contradicting the Constitution. Responding to Owaisi’s declaration, Parliamentary Affairs Minister Kiren Rijiju remarked, “We do not endorse or denounce any country, but it is inappropriate to mention any country within the House.”

During the Israel-Gaza conflict last year, Owaisi emphasized that the Palestinian issue transcends religious boundaries to become a matter of global humanity. He also characterized Israel’s Prime Minister, Benjamin Netanyahu, as “the devil.”  Israel’s conflict with the Palestinian group Hamas continued into its eighth month in June, resulting in nearly 40,000 casualties and displacing hundreds of thousands.

Since severing ties with the BJP, the All India Anna Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam (AIADMK) has faced sporadic unrest, though no significant upheaval initially. However, as parliamentary elections drew near, the AIADMK’s definitive break from the BJP compelled its members to oppose BJP in the line of its rival DMK in the state. This marks a peculiar predicament for the AIADMK, particularly after ousting former leader O Panneerselvam, a favorite of Jayalalitha, along with TTV Dinakaran and their 18 rebel MLAs. This has left the AIADMK stranded, unsure of its direction in the parliamentary elections and its stance contradicted through all its previous decisions. Currently, the party’s general secretary, Edappadi K Palaniswami, also seems to only engage in X platform (formally Twitter) condemnations, failing to address crucial issues that could bolster his standing, thus leaving him and party vulnerable to chip away at his authority.

In this context, the AIADMK IT wing has sparked controversy by adopting novel tactics under the guise of criticizing the BJP. Rather than engaging in direct, civil critique, they have resorted to attacking Hindu beliefs. This shift is exemplified by RK Jeyabalan, Joint Secretary of the IT wing, who has hurled derogatory remarks at the BJP, referring to them as “Sanathana pigs and dogs.” Additionally, he propagated a false narrative claiming that women are prohibited from performing poojas in temples according to Vedic culture and are restricted from participating in temple rituals outside of Tamil Nadu.

This Hindu hate is emanating from the AIADMK against the backdrop of Madhavi Latha, the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) candidate, challenging Asaduddin Owaisi, the four-time MP from the All India Majlis-E-Ittehadul Muslimeen (AIMIM), in Hyderabad. Owaisi, who recently lent support to AIADMK in the 2024 Lok Sabha elections, is now facing opposition from Latha.

It’s truly disheartening to witness the present direction of the AIADMK, especially considering its rich legacy with stalwarts like MG Ramachandran and J Jayalalitha, who staunchly advocated for Hinduism and safeguarded its principles in Tamil Nadu. However, the current leadership seems to be veering towards the path of the DMK, espousing anti-Hindu sentiments and propagating falsehoods to align with its rival, the DMK.

Contrary to the AIADMK’s claims, the existence of women priests and priests from non-Brahmin castes in Tamil Nadu is not a novel concept. Numerous smaller temples across the nation, along with renowned ones have a long-standing tradition of female priests and inclusive practices, allowing women to engage in rituals and even touch idols. Moreover, the hereditary system of women priests is prevalent in many temples, particularly those dedicated to village deities in North eastern India.

The Hindu scriptures do not forbid women from assuming religious leadership roles, as evidenced by examples such as Megha Gokhle, who has been performing priestly duties in Navi Mumbai for over 40 years. Additionally, temples like the Gokarnanatheshwara Temple in Mangalore took a progressive step by appointing women priests, including widows, a decade ago. In Pune, individuals like Chitralekha are breaking gender barriers by serving as Hindu priests, with organizations like the Bhandarkar Oriental Research Institute and Jnana Prabhodini actively training and empowering around 1,600 women for such roles.

The Vitthal Rukhmini Temple in Pandharpur, Maharashtra, often referred to as the Southern Kashi of India, set a precedent by appointing non-Brahmin and female priests, highlighting a broader trend towards inclusivity and social integration within Hinduism, championed even in Gujarat under the leadership of Narendra Modi. Therefore, this fabricated story is untrue and it’s unfortunate to witness.

In a significant political development, the All India Majlis-e-Ittehadul Muslilmeen (AIMIM) has declared its backing for the AIADMK in Tamil Nadu ahead of the upcoming Lok Sabha elections. AIMIM President and Hyderabad MP Asaduddin Owaisi made the announcement on 16 April 2024 signalling a strategic alliance between the two parties.

According to Owaisi, AIMIM’s Tamil Nadu unit president T. S. Vakeel Ahmed, and other leaders held discussions with AIADMK General Secretary and former Chief Minister Edappadi K. Palaniswamy. 

Palaniswamy reportedly assured AIMIM leaders that his party would refrain from forming electoral alliances with the BJP in the future, securing AIMIM’s support for the upcoming polls.

In a video message, Owaisi urged the people of Tamil Nadu to vote for AIADMK in the Lok Sabha elections. He emphasized that the alliance between AIMIM and AIADMK was forged based on the latter’s commitment to avoiding any alliance with the BJP. He said, “I’m recording a video message for the honourable people of Tamil Nadu to inform them that our party AIMIM has entered into an alliance with AIADMK. Our Tamil Nadu president Mr Vakeel has met Thiru Edappadi K Palaniswami who is the General Secretary of AIADMK and AIADMK has categorically given an assurance that they are not into an alliance with BJP and also in the future they will not be having any alliance with the BJP and they will be opposing CAA, NPR and NRC. That is why our party AIMIM has entered into an electoral alliance with the AIADMK. I will request all the electorate to please exercise your vote in favour of AIADMK candidates and our party’s alliance with AIADMK will continue till the next Tamil Nadu assembly elections and I wanted to come to Tamil Nadu and meet Thiru Edappadi K Palaniswami General Secretary of AIADMK but unfortunately because of scheduling issues and I have to campaign for my party candidates in different states. AIADMK is contesting the Lok Sabha polls in alliance with several parties, including the Desiya Murpokku Dravida Kazhagam (DMDK), Puthiya Tamilagam, and the Social Democratic Party of India.

Out of the 39 Lok Sabha constituencies in Tamil Nadu, AIADMK is fielding candidates in 32 seats, while allocating five seats to DMDK and one each to Puthiya Tamilagam and the Social Democratic Party of India. 

Polling for all Lok Sabha seats in Tamil Nadu is set for 19 April 2024.

The Telugu electorate had seen the first of the unforgettable Madhavi Latha five years ago, but certainly not the last of her! Kompella Madhavi Latha first contested as a BJP candidate from the Guntur constituency in Andhra Pradesh back in 2019. She lost the election but her party, the BJP, took note of her for her RSS roots, her social activism and social service, her passionate speeches in both Telugu and English and her optimistic, cheerful, indomitable spirit.

In 2024, The BJP stands a higher chance of a significantly higher vote share on its own standing, in Telangana than it does in Andhra, where it is in partnership with the TDP-JSP, relying on its alliance parties to raise its A.P tally. Given the negotiations for seat sharing among the three NDA parties in Andhra and wisely accepting the reality of lower chances in A.P relative to Telangana, the BJP has chosen to field the charismatic Kompella Madhavi Latha from Hyderabad, Telangana for the 2024 national elections.

There was a palpable, clearly visible excitement in the air, with the announcement of Madhavi’s candidature in the Hyderabad constituency (old city) pitted against none other than, the leader of the muslim AIMIM party, Asaduddin Owaisi. The BJP’s choice for this tough constituency against a seasoned, veteran, minority-political heavyweight, has piqued the curiosity of both the media and common people. Kompella Madhavi Latha is well spoken, articulate, not afraid to tell it like it is and ready to take on a formidable opponent regardless of the outcome! She is reminiscent of Smriti Irani in her early years of political involvement.

For the BJP, a proudly-Hindu woman candidate, K Madhavi Latha’s endorsement in an electoral constituency, dominated by the muslim minority and the AIMIM party leaders since 1984 is an interesting move aimed at the future, with a bit of disruptive, out-of-the-box thinking. It is a bold strategy, hoping to gain favour with minority women voters, who can appreciate the social activism and social work done by a fellow woman, with a reputation for sincere intent, honesty and integrity.

What’s more – Madhavi Latha has a proven track record of advocating for women’s and children’s causes including muslim women’s issues such as the now-outlawed Triple Talaq and educational opportunities for girls. The BJP’s decision to field a Hindu female candidate against a muslim male, chief of the AIMIM party and four-time Hyderabad MP (Member of Parliament) is a deliberate one, aimed at breaking stereotypes. This strategy is a current chess move that carries a near-future goal. In the short term, how will Madhavi Latha do and for the longer term, can she help the BJP make inroads into a bastion of Hyderabadi muslims? The BJP’s master plan appears to be one of investing in short term efforts in furthering their long term goals, with the help of a woman known for her charitable works.

In recent interviews to Telugu channels, Madhavi Latha encouraged all women to exercise their franchise and cast their votes fearlessly, including muslim women. She mentioned that many muslim women are misled by muslim men, into believing that their voting choices would become public knowledge, which makes them hesitant of voting for a person of their choice. Many of them are afraid of the consequences of voting for a candidate, opposed by the men of the community. Madhavi Latha went on record, requesting all women, including muslim women to vote for the right candidate, assuring them of the strict privacy of the voting process. She requested Hindu women to help their muslim sisters make the right choice.

Madhavi Latha has also committed to bringing about the necessary clarity to the BJP’s proposed CAA (Citizenship Amendment Act) among muslim men and women who are currently being fed false propaganda against the Act by many muslim leaders, barring a few. She spoke about several years of voter-id tampering in the Hyderabad old city constituency, alleging that a significant number of Hindu votes were negated. She has requested the EC (Election Commission) to look into the issue. Madhavi has promised better education, hygiene, transportation services, health care, development and equal opportunities for all, in the Hyderabad old city constituency…stating that this constituency has not made much progress relative to other parts of Hyderabad and Secunderabad cities, in spite of electing the Owaisi family to power, since the 1980s.

Who is this firebrand Telugu lady with excellent oratory skills in Telugu, Hindi and English? Who is this lady that has aroused the curiosity of the media and the common people alike in the Telugu speaking states as well as the national BJP circles?

She is a stauch advocate of women’s and children’s rights, who has earned the trust of hundreds of Hindu and Muslim women. K Madhavi Latha’s personal, educational, professional, social, charitable and religious accomplishments are impressive enough for most people to take note.

– Madhavi Latha was an NCC cadet with an RSS background.
– She first gained recognition for her social activism and social work:
1) Worked with muslim women’s groups in Hyderabad ahead of the Triple Talak verdict in 2019.
2) She is an advocate and active sponsor of girls’ education across the religious divide.
3) She is recognized and appreciated for organizing health camps for the needy and for her efforts in aiding flood victims.
4) She established the Lopamudra charitable trust, which provides free eye care services to needy women, pregnant women.
5) Also runs the LathaMa Charitable Foundation with the aim of improving the lives of the underprivileged (especially women), regardless of caste, creed and religion.
6) Madhavi Latha set up a fund for destitute Muslim women.
7) She was associated with organisations like Forum for Awareness of National Security and Samskruthi Telangana State.
8) She is known to offer her time, advice and guidance to many women, free of cost, in matters of education and health.
9) She supports various Hindu dharmic causes including issues of temple maintenance and relocation.
10) She also runs a gaushala (cow shelter) and gives regular talks on Hindutva and Indian culture in schools and colleges.
11) Founder and trustee of Viswanadha Foundation, another charitable trust for the underprivileged.

A bus and a few vehicles in her convoy were set on fire by agitated BRS activists, following her reference to the BRS MLA’s alleged corruption. Sharmila reportedly intervened as her supporters clashed with those of the BRS party. She was taken into “preventive” custody on Tuesday, by the Warangal Police and was granted bail earlier on Wednesday (30 November 2022).

Sharmila, who launched the YSR Telangana Party (YSRTP) last year, is the proverbial underdog in Telangana politics. She claims her party will emerge a major contender to Chandrashekar Rao’s ruling BRS (formerly, TRS) party in the 2023 Telangana polls. Her brother, Jagan Mohan Reddy is the incumbent Chief Minister of the “twin” Telugu state of Andhra Pradesh and leader of the YSRCP party.

Sources claim, not all is well with the once strong relationship between the brother-sister duo, the children of former chief minister of the larger, undivided Andhra Pradesh state, Y.S Rajashekar Reddy
(a.k.a YSR) who had vehemently opposed the bifurcation of the state into Andhra and Telangana. YSR died in a helicopter crash, in September 2009 while he was still Chief minister, giving rise to several conspiracy theories.

Y.S. Sharmila, who launched the YSRTP party in Telangana last year without the support of her brother, the current A.P chief minister and YSRCP leader Y.S.Jagan Reddy, has said that her brother’s support didn’t matter and that her newly launched party would contest all 119 seats in the 2023 Telangana assembly elections. She is being supported by her mother and her husband Morusupalli Anil Kumar (“Brother” Anil) who is a Christian evangelist/missionary and founder of “Anil World Evangelism”.

The entire family, including Jagan and Sharmila are practicing Christians and may have an edge with the Christian minority.

It’s early yet to predict whether Sharmila’s enthusiasm and optimism will turn into a sizeable vote share but political analysts speculate that she may cut into the share of the BRS party’s Other Backward Classes (OBCs), Minorities and Dalits. If that were to happen, it would be worrisome for the incumbent BRS party in Telangana and an advantage for the state’s BJP, which has witnessed a meteoric rise since the last state elections in 2018. The other parties in the fray, namely Congress and the TDP have lost their political relevance in Telangana since the 2014 bifurcation.

Touted to be a hotly fought contest between the BRS and the BJP, Sharmila’s YSRTP is the proverbial underdog that may end up with a surprising electoral result, forcing the BRS to take its potential appeal to the Minorities (especially Christian), Scheduled Castes and Other Backward Classes, seriously. The Telangana Muslim vote is likely to remain with the Hyderabad based, Asaduddin Owaisi’s All India Majlis-E-Ittehadul Muslimeen (AIMIM).

Sharmila claims her “padayatra” (walkathon) to personally connect with the common people of Telangana, will bring back memories of the legacy of her late father and former chief minister (YSR), based on the numerous welfare schemes he had launched in the undivided Andhra state. She was quoted stating “Many ruled me out in the beginning… that YSR is a long-gone era and he is no longer prevalent in Telangana, but I received a lot of warmth and love during the ‘padayatra’. Being YSR’s daughter will just be a launchpad for me; people will actually see my calibre…”. Sharmila who has been on a padayatra in Telangana since last October, claims that people are paying attention and showing interest in her vision, which is similar to her father’s vision of welfarism and upliftment of the lower classes.

It is worth noting that it was Sharmila and her missionary husband, that played a significant role in reaching out to the people of Andhra Pradesh ahead of the 2019 elections, while Jagan Reddy was in jail in connection with several embezzlement charges. This resulted in an impressive vote share for Jagan, in the 2019 A.P state elections, which saw Jagan’s YSRCP party wrest power from Chandrababu Naidu’s TDP. However, Sharmila and her husband Anil, were not given any legislative posts of importance in A.P, post Jagan’s 2019 win. On numerous occasions, she has expressed disappointment with her brother’s lack of reciprocation but contends that it’s his choice, at an individual level.

As of now, Sharmila’s relatively new Telangana based YSRTP party, has very few recognizable faces other than herself. Only time will tell whether she will emerge as strong as her brother.

All India Majlis-E-Ittehadul Muslimeen (English: All India Council for Unity of Muslims, AIMIM) State President, Mr. Shaukat Ali made a controversial remark on Hindu marriage and social norms, while addressing a gathering in the state.

He said, “People say we have three weddings. Even if we have two marriages, we give respect to both the wives in society, but you (Hindus) marry one and have three mistresses and you neither respect your wife nor the mistress. But if we have two weddings, we keep them with respect and our children’s names are also on the ration card.”

The UP AIMIM State President also spoke about the Supreme Court’s decision on the recent Hijab ban issue. He remarked “Hindutva will not decide who will wear what in the country, but the constitution will.”

“The Constitution will decide who will wear what in the country and not Hindutva, but the BJP is working to break the country by raising such issues.”

Mr.Shaukat Ali of the AIMIM targeted the BJP and said that the Muslims had been singled out on issues like Madrassas, lynching, waqf and hijab . “All are happening with us because we are easy to target. When the BJP is weak they take up Muslim issues.” Recently, he claimed that his party would contest all seats in U.P elections to come, and added that several S.P leaders would join them.

It is also a significant political party in the Indian States of Telangana and Maharashtra. It is the second largest party in Telangana Legislative Assembly and in the Telangana Legislative Council. It claims to promote the social, economical, and educational development and effective representation of Indian Muslims and Dalits. Its current leader is Mr. Asaduddin Owaisi, based out of Hyderabad, Telangana.

Leader of the All India Majlis-e-Ittehad-ul-Muslimeen Asaduddin Owaisi has courted trouble by stating that the planned Ayodhya mosque on the five-acre land is ‘haram’ or un-Islamic.

Owaisi’s statement immediately drew a rejoinder from the Mosque Trust on Thursday 28 January, which characterised his remarks as part of his political agenda, reports News18.

Owaisi was speaking at an event in Bidar in Karnataka, when he said that the Ayodhya mosque undergoing construction on the five-acre land allotted by the Supreme Court was ‘haram’ or un-Islamic. He went on to say that even offering prayers or donating for its construction is against the Islamic tenets.

Athar Husain, secretary of the Ayodhya Mosque Trust and Indo-Islamic Cultural Foundation (IICF), criticized Owaisi and said that no piece of land where prayer was offered to the Almighty Allah could be ‘haram’.

“It’s possible his [Owaisi’s] ancestors never took part in the 1856 revolt against the British. We are from Awadh, which was the crucible of revolution, and are dedicating the IICF centre in Ayodhya in the memory of one of our greatest freedom fighters, Ahmadullah Shah, who liberated Faizabad from the British for at least a year,” Athar Husain said.

The Ayodhya mosque project was formally launched on Tuesday (26 January) with the unfurling of the tricolour and a tree plantation drive at Dhannipur, which is located around 24 km from the Ram Janmabhoomi.

The mosque’s trust, named as Indo-Islamic Cultural Foundation, was constituted following the Supreme Court verdict in 2019 which ruled for the construction of a temple at the Ram Janmabhoomi site in Ayodhya.

As the election in West Bengal draws closer, The All India Majlis-e-Ittehad-ul-Muslimeen (AIMIM) has joined forces, prominent radical Islamic preacher, Abbas Siddiqui Furfura.

AIMIM Amir, Assaduddin Owaisi on Sunday (December 3) arrived at Futura Sharif in Bengal”s Hooghly district and held discussions on for the upcoming assembly polls with Abbas Siddiqui Furfura which is seen by Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee as a ploy to cut the Muslim vote.

Owaisi recently enjoyed electoral success in Bihar and now West Bengal which has over 30 per cent Muslim population is a perfect breeding ground for AIMIM to consolidate in few pockets of the state. 

After meeting Abbas Siddique Furfura, Owaisi said, “Whatever decision Abbas Siddique takes the AIMIM will stand by him,”.

“Owaisi wanted to keep the meeting a secret as we were apprehensive that the TMC government would stop him from exiting the airport. From Kolkata airport, he went straight to Hooghly to meet Abbas Siddiqui. He will leave for Hyderabad in the afternoon,” PTI quoted AIMIM state secretary Zameerul Hassan as saying.

Abbas Siddiqui Furfura belongs to the powerful Siddiqui Furfura Sharif Darbar located in Jangipara in Hooghly district and is known for his fiery speeches and has considerable influence in districts such as Hooghly, Burdwan, Murshidabad and North and South 24 Parganas—which account for 120 of the 294 assembly seats.

Earlier this year, Abbas Siddiqui Furfura courted controversy when a video emerged in which the cleric could be heard saying, “Allah Amar Bharat borshe emon kathin ekta virus dig, ei bharat borshe jano, 10-20-50 koti log more jaye (I pray to Allah that he sends such a deadly virus in India which kills up to 50 crore people)“.

Taking a leaf out of the playbook of left-liberal parties and Islamic Sharia law Abbas Siddiqui Furfura in his campaign promise has announced that he ban liquor ban, a rapist will receive the death sentence and the handing over of Muslim and adivasi properties to the communities.

Mamata Banerjee who won the last two elections thanks to her appeasement politics now finds herself at the political crossroads as there is growing divide between Hindus and Muslims in the state due to her appeasement politics.

Furfura has been very vocal in his criticism of Mamata state government and has publicly said, “There are four crore Muslims in West Bengal. Mamata should not forget that we can always resurrect the Congress or the CPI(M) from their graves as the secular alternative in West Bengal,”.

However, there is a divide in the Muslim votes also, as the 30 per cent of the population, largely follow either of two religious institutions—the Jamiat Ulema-e-Hind an offshoot of Deobandi ideology and Furfura Sharif.

With Owaisi jumping into the complicated politics of West Bengal, Muslims who helped Mamata Banerjee win two elections is now being seen as raison d’etre to her political downfall and the rise of Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) in the state. 

However, Owaisi’s decision could backfire as there are many Muslim leaders in West Bengal could also see him as a threat. Recently the Muslim wing of the Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam had invited Owaisi which led a serious problem from local Muslim parties who view him as an outsider. 

Local Muslim parties like the Manidhaneya Makkal Katchi, Tamil Nadu Muslim Munnetra Kazagham and other Muslim groups came down heavy on the DMK as they sensed a threat to their local Muslim vote bank from an outsider Muslim which could be the case in West Bengal also.
