The Indian Army, under the aegis of Army Recruiting Office, Jorhat (Assam), successfully conducted the Agniveer recruitment Rally at Gyaptong Regional Stadium, Rupa in Arunachal Pradesh, officials said on Sunday. Defence spokesman Lt Col Mahendra Rawat said that the event evoked a highly motivated response among the local youths, reinforcing their aspirations to don the uniform and serve the nation with pride as Agniveers.

Over 380 aspirants from various districts of Arunachal Pradesh reported and underwent physical fitness tests, physical measurement test, documentation, and medical examination as per the standards of the Indian Army, he said. In the three day (September 3-5) rally shortlisted candidates of Arunachal Pradesh had earlier qualified in the online common entrance examination.

The rally was flagged off by the Director Recruiting (North East States) and witnessed the gracious presence of senior Army officers and civil dignitaries, who extended encouragement and support to the youth participating in the event, the spokesman said. He said that the recruitment process was conducted in a transparent and fair manner, ensuring equal opportunity for all eligible candidates. The wholehearted support of the civil administration and local military authorities enabled the smooth and efficient conduct of the rally.

Lt Col Rawat said that the final merit list of successful candidates would be published in due course, after completion of all stages of the recruitment process. The Indian Army extends its appreciation to the people and administration of Arunachal Pradesh for their cooperation and congratulates all aspirants who participated with zeal and determination, the spokesman added. In a separate event, at the picturesque Lhalung village in Menchuka Valley in Arunachal Pradesh’s Shi-Yomi district, the annual worship of the 500-year-old Chandan tree was held on Sunday with deep devotion and cultural fervor.

The sacred tree is revered by the local Buddhist community and symbolizes not only faith but also the enduring heritage of the region. The defence spokesman said that the monks from local monasteries, along with a large number of devotees, gathered at the site to offer prayers, light lamps, and perform rituals seeking peace, prosperity, and collective well-being. Elders of the village narrated the legends and history associated with the tree, passing on valuable cultural knowledge to the younger generation and reinforcing the community’s spiritual roots.

Troops assisted in organising the event and ensured seamless arrangements for the gathering. Beyond the ceremony, the Army has been actively engaged in the upkeep and preservation of this centuries-old heritage site through year-round stewardship, cleanliness drives, and maintenance of pathways leading to the sacred tree. The participation of local military authorities reflects the strong bond between the armed forces and the people of the region. Such initiatives not only safeguard cultural and religious traditions but also strengthen the spirit of civil–military harmony in remote border areas. The event concluded with a collective prayer for peace, unity, and prosperity in the valley. The annual worship of the Chandan tree continues to stand as a timeless reminder of Arunachal Pradesh’s spiritual richness and the shared commitment of the people and the Army to preserve it for future generations, Lt Col Rawat added.

The 79th Independence Day celebrations on Friday at the historic Red Fort this year saw a grand tribute to the success of ‘Operation Sindoor’, marking a moment of pride and unity for the nation. For the first time, the ceremony included 11 Agniveer musicians who joined the Air Force band in playing the national anthem — a symbolic gesture highlighting the new generation’s role in national service.

As Prime Minister Narendra Modi hoisted the Tricolour from the ramparts of the Red Fort, two red Mi-17 helicopters of the Indian Air Force soared above the gathering. One proudly carried the national flag, while the other displayed the flag symbolising ‘Operation Sindoor.’

As they flew over the Red Fort, both helicopters showered flowers on the assembled crowd, igniting emotions of pride and patriotism among the thousands present. Adding to the grandeur, the logo of ‘Operation Sindoor’ was prominently featured throughout the venue — from the view cutter of Gyanpath in front of the Red Fort to the floral decorations and even on the official invitation cards for the event.

A 21-gun salute echoed through the grounds as the national flag was raised. This ceremonial salute was delivered using indigenous 105 mm light field guns, fired by the 1721 Field Battery (Ceremonial) — a significant nod to India’s self-reliance in Defence. The national flag was guarded by 128 personnel drawn from the Indian Army, Navy, Air Force, and Delhi Police, while a Guard of Honour comprising 96 soldiers and officers stood in formation, showcasing the discipline and unity of the armed forces.

During the hoisting of the flag and national salute, the Air Force band, led by a Junior Commissioned Officer and supported by 25 musicians, played the national anthem. The inclusion of the Agniveers in this prestigious performance marked a historic first. Approximately 5,000 special invitees attended the ceremony at the invitation of Prime Minister Modi.

These included members of India’s Special Olympics 2025 team, international sports champions, outstanding farmers, top-performing sarpanches, young writers, entrepreneurs, beneficiaries of government schemes, sanitation workers, Anganwadi workers, rehabilitated labourers, volunteers, and tribal children.

Adding to the colourful diversity, 1,500 attendees from across states and union territories arrived in traditional attire. In the lead-up to Independence Day, thousands across the country participated in essay competitions, painting contests, social media reels, and online quizzes related to ‘Operation Sindoor’ and national security — with 1,000 quiz winners also present at the ceremony.

For the first time ever, patriotic fervour will continue into the evening of August 15, as bands from the Army, Navy, Air Force, Coast Guard, NCC, and Assam Rifles perform across over 140 locations nationwide, filling the air with patriotic melodies.

This article is a continuation (Part 2) of the series. You can read Part 1 here.

The Agniveer Scheme and Geopolitical Implications

The Agniveer scheme is India’s ambitious plan to overhaul its military by recruiting young, tech-savvy soldiers for a four-year term, moving away from the traditional lifetime service model. The goal is to build a nimble, adaptable force ready for modern challenges. However, the media has created hype around this scheme, fuelled by vested interests from the Western lobby aiming to derail India’s defense improvement. When India focuses on defense improvement rather than the protests, it can become a major defense exporter.

There’s also a geopolitical twist. Some suggest the United States might be quietly pleased with this turmoil. The reasoning goes like this: if India can’t sort out its military reforms—like Agniveer—and keeps facing internal pushback, it stays reliant on foreign arms, especially from the U.S. India has already spent £15.5 billion on American military equipment since 2008—planes, helicopters, and more. Now, talks of dropping another £7.8–11.6 billion on F-35 fighter jets and Patriot missile systems are circulating. That’s a hefty bill, and it locks India deeper into a dependency trap. The more India leans on U.S. gear, the harder it gets to break free and build its own.

Self-reliance is the real prize here — crafting a military that stands on its own, not one tethered to foreign suppliers for every spare part. The protests over Agniveer, whether fuelled by local discontent or subtly nudged from abroad, risk pulling India off that path. Sorting out this mess internally isn’t just about calming the streets; it’s about taking control of India’s defense future. Why let chaos—or whispers from across the ocean—keep India from that goal?

Incidents and Accidents Involving the F-35

The F-35 Lightning II, a family of single-seat, single-engine, all-weather stealth multirole fighters, has experienced several notable accidents and incidents since its introduction. These events have involved engine fires, crashes, and collisions, often resulting from human error, mechanical failures, or design issues. Below is a summary of key incidents based on available information:

These accidents have contributed to debates about the F-35’s safety and reliability, given its complexity and high cost. However, with over 721,000 flight hours and 965 aircraft delivered, some argue its accident rate is within expected norms for a new military platform.

Autonomous Incidents Involving the F-35

The F-35 is a manned aircraft, not designed for fully autonomous flight. While it features advanced automation and artificial intelligence (AI) capabilities—such as sensor fusion, target detection, and tracking—these are decision-support tools controlled by the pilot, not autonomous flight systems. As a result, there are no documented incidents of the F-35 operating autonomously or crashing due to autonomous flight operations.

However, automation-related issues have played a role in some incidents:

  • 2022 Utah Crash: The crash at Hill AFB was caused by a software glitch in the air data system, which stopped responding to pilot inputs after being triggered by turbulence. While this involved automation, it was not an autonomous operation—rather, it highlighted risks of reliance on complex software systems.

The F-35’s AI and automation are designed to enhance pilot situational awareness and combat effectiveness, not to replace the pilot. Unlike unmanned aerial vehicles (UAVs), the F-35 requires human control, and all reported incidents stem from human error, mechanical failures, or design flaws rather than autonomous behaviour.

Strategic Decision-Making: Building Self-Reliance

India must approach this decision with caution. The smart move is to negotiate with America to share the F-35’s blueprints so it can be built domestically—otherwise, India should decline the offer. Russia’s Su-57 deal allows for domestic production, aligning with the “Make in India” initiative and saving costs while fostering local expertise. Additionally, India should advocate for global regulations on AI warfare to prevent major powers like China and America from dominating with advanced technology that India lacks. HAL’s track record—delays in delivering the Tejas—indicates the need for external assistance to catch up. However, purchasing advanced jets like the F-35 without acquiring the necessary know-how keeps India dependent, rather than empowering it to stand independently.

Evaluating the F-35, it offers impressive capabilities: speeds of 1,975 km/h, a range of 2,220 km, and stealth features with a radar cross-section of 0.001 m². However, it comes with a hefty price tag—£62 million per jet, plus additional costs for spares and fuel—and carries only 10 weapons, fewer than some competitors. In contrast, the Su-57, while less stealthy (0.1 m²), is cheaper to co-build, and Russia is willing to share technology. The AMCA represents India’s future aspirations—stealthy, domestically produced, and AI-ready—but its completion is projected for 2035, which is too far off to address immediate needs.

The real fight is shifting to the skies, with AI jets—no pilots, just computers making decisions, outthinking and outflying anything human. China is advancing rapidly in this domain, and America is not far behind. India’s own Advanced Medium Combat Aircraft (AMCA), intended to be a high-tech response, won’t be ready until 2035—ten years too late to catch up. This delay poses a significant challenge, as AI-driven jets represent the future of air combat.

Moreover, there is no global rulebook for AI wars. Existing agreements like the Geneva Convention cover human soldiers, not machines. If an AI jet goes rogue and hits the wrong target, accountability becomes a complex issue. This regulatory gap leaves nations vulnerable to unforeseen consequences.

While the F-35 is currently a solid option—it flies, fights, and hides effectively—it is not designed for the AI-driven future. Investing in the F-35 now could mean buying yesterday’s technology for tomorrow’s war, potentially leaving India at a disadvantage as AI jets become the norm.

India requires a solution now that not only meets current defense needs but also contributes to long-term self-reliance. The focus should be on building capabilities that empower India, rather than creating dependency on foreign suppliers.

Conclusion

India’s decision between the American F-35 and the Russian Su-57 fighter jets is a complex and multifaceted one, with significant implications for the country’s defense strategy, geopolitical alliances, and long-term self-reliance. The F-35 offers advanced stealth and technology, but it comes with high costs and potential dependencies on the United States. In contrast, the Su-57, while less stealthy, aligns with India’s “Make in India” initiative, fostering local expertise and reducing reliance on foreign suppliers.

The rapid evolution of AI-driven aviation further complicates this decision, as the future of air combat will likely be dominated by pilotless jets. Investing in the F-35 now could mean buying technology that may soon be outdated, whereas the Su-57 offers a platform for future innovations and self-reliance.

The Agniveer scheme and the geopolitical dynamics surrounding India’s defense reforms highlight the importance of focusing on long-term strategic goals rather than short-term fixes. Ensuring India’s freedom to choose its path and building a robust, independent defense capability are paramount.

This decision isn’t just about picking planes—it’s about ensuring India retains the freedom to choose its path. The Indian Air Force (IAF) needs strength to guard the skies, and with only 31 squadrons against the required 42, the gap is significant. China is not waiting, and the urgency is clear. However, opting for the F-35 could lock India into America’s grip, costing billions—£62 million per jet, with dozens needed and years of upkeep. This dependency could bleed resources and limit strategic autonomy.

Russia offers a partnership with the Su-57, allowing India to build and learn domestically. This aligns with the “Make in India” initiative, fostering local expertise and reducing reliance on foreign suppliers. The Advanced Medium Combat Aircraft (AMCA) represents a home-grown hope, but it’s a decade away from being operational. The future of air combat lies in AI-driven, pilotless jets, which come with no established rules and significant risks.

India must avoid trading tomorrow’s freedom for today’s quick fix. The focus should be on strategic choices that build long-term self-reliance and resilience. Choosing wisely now will prevent future regret and ensure India’s defense capabilities are robust and independent. Ultimately, the choice between the F-35 and the Su-57 is not just about acquiring new aircraft; it’s about shaping India’s defense future. By making strategic decisions that prioritize self-reliance and resilience, India can secure its position as a major defense power and avoid the pitfalls of dependency on foreign suppliers.

Union Home Minister Amit Shah on Sunday said that Agniveers will be given a pensionable job and also appealed to the people not to hesitate to send their sons to the Army.

The Home Minister delivered a fiery speech while addressing a ‘Jan Aashirwaad Rally’ at village Dhorka Sector-95 in Gurgaon in support of BJP Badshahpur candidate Rao Narbir Singh.

“Every Agniveer will get pension benefits. The Agniveer scheme was meant to make the Army young,” said the Home Minister. While targeting Rahul Gandhi, the Home Minister said that the Congress leader is a ‘lying machine’. “Rahul Gandhi says that Agniveer Yojana has been brought because the government does not want to give pensionable jobs. I am telling you that every Agniveer will be given a pensionable job.”

He also criticised Congress, saying, “There was a Congress government in Haryana, it ran on cuts, commissions and corruption. The rule of dealers, brokers and sons-in-law was prevalent. In the BJP government, neither dealers nor brokers are left, there is no question of sons-in-law.”

He said that during the Hooda government, the Congress had only developed one district and one caste, but after the BJP gained power, the party had developed the entire state equally. “The party had given jobs based on ‘Kharchi and Parchi’ system while the BJP has given five lakh jobs without any ‘Kharchi and Parchi,” he said.

The Home Minister said that the UPA government gave 41,000 crores to Haryana whereas the Modi government gave 292,000 crores rupees for development to Haryana in 10 years. “PM Modi loves Haryana the most among all the states,” the Home Minister said.

He said that the Congress could not fulfil the promises it made in Himachal Pradesh and Karnataka. “This is their false guarantee, but the BJP has fulfilled the promises it made.”

He said that people are raising pro-Pakistan slogans from Congress platforms. “Why is Rahul Gandhi silent? Why doesn’t he speak? Congress has become blind in appeasement. Congress and Rahul Gandhi want to bring back Article 370 in Kashmir. Even their three generations cannot bring back Article 370. India’s flag has to be hoisted in Kashmir,” he said.

He added that as long as the Modi government is there, only the Tricolour flag will fly in Kashmir. While attacking the Hooda government, the Home Minister said brokers, dealers and ‘damaad’ auctioned Gurugram land. “In a public meeting, the Congress candidate says that he will give 50-50 jobs to his supporters. If they will jobs to their supporters from where will the common man got a job,” he said. He added that Haryana is such a state where every tenth man is in the army.

“PM Modi had promised that we will implement One Rank One Pension. Three generations of Congress did not respect One Rank One Pension and it was not implemented. When you made Modi the PM, he implemented One Rank One Pension. The third version of One Rank One Pension has been implemented by PM Modi.” He said that the Waqf Board Bill will be brought in the upcoming winter session.

Leader of Opposition in Lok Sabha and Congress leader Rahul Gandhi accused Defence Minister Rajnath Singh of misleading Parliament about compensation to families of deceased Agniveers.

On 1 July 2024, Gandhi attacked the government, claiming that Agniveers were not granted the status of martyrs and were akin touse and throwlabour. In response, Singh maintained that if an Agniveer dies in war or at the border, their family receives ₹1 crore.

Gandhi released a video on 3 July 2024 featuring the father of Agniveer Ajay Kumar, who was killed in a landmine explosion in Naushera, Jammu & Kashmir, in January. The father claimed that the family had not received any compensation or help from the Centre, despite Singh’s assertion that families of martyred Agniveers receive ₹1 crore in compensation. The father stated that while they had received some assistance from the Punjab government, nothing had been provided by the central government.

In the video, Gandhi demanded an apology from Singh, saying, Defence Minister Rajnath Singh lied in Parliament about the assistance given to the family of the martyred Agniveer. Martyr Agniveer Ajay’s father has himself told the truth and exposed their lies. The Defence Minister should apologise to the Parliament, the country, the army, and the family of the martyr.”

Army’s Rebuttal

Hours after Gandhi’s statement, the Indian Army issued a clarification on social media, asserting that compensation had been paid to Kumar’s family. It is emphasised that the Indian Army salutes the supreme sacrifice made by Agniveer Ajay Kumar. The last rites were carried out with full Military Honours. Of the total amount due, the family of Agniveer Ajay has already been paid ₹98.39 lakhs. Ex-Gratia and other benefits amounting to approximately ₹67 lakhs, as applicable according to the provisions of the Agniveer Scheme, will be paid on Final Account Settlement shortly post due Police verification. The total amount will be ₹1.65 Cr approximately.”

The army reiterated that emoluments due to fallen soldiers, including Agniveers, are paid expeditiously to their next of kin.

Terms Of Agnipath Scheme

The terms of the Agnipath Scheme clearly state that if an Agniveer soldier becomes a battle casualty, his next of kin would receive:

  • Non-Contributory Insurance sum, amounting to ₹48 Lakh
  • Ex-gratia of ₹44 Lakh
  • Seva Nidhi contributed by the Agniveer (30%), with an equal matching contribution by the Govt, and interest thereon
  • Pay of balance tenure from date of death, till completion of four years (more than ₹13 Lakh, in the case of Laxman
  • Contribution of ₹8 Lakh from Armed Forces Battle Casualty Fund
  • Immediate financial assistance of ₹30 thousand from the Army Wives Welfare Association

Defence Minister’s Rebuttal

Defence Minister Singh refuted Gandhi’s claims in Lok Sabha, stating that the Agnipath scheme was introduced after consultations with 158 organizations and that it provides due compensation to the families of martyred Agniveers. He urged Gandhi not to mislead Parliament and requested Lok Sabha Speaker Om Birla to expunge Gandhi’s remarks on the scheme. Singh also noted that similar recruitment schemes exist in countries like the US and the UK without objections.

This is not the first time that Rahul Gandhi is lying about the Armed Forces. Here are 10 other instances where he and the Congress insulted the Indian Armed Forces.

About Agnipath

Rahul Gandhi had parroted the claims made by the banned terror outfit PFI about the Agnipath Scheme saying that it will create unemployed youths trained in guns, which is similar to what the PFI said – that the scheme is a ploy to train Hindu youths in weapons to attack Muslims.

On OROP

He also tried to create divisions between officers and jawans (soldiers) regarding theOne Rank One Pension(OROP) scheme stating officers were receiving greater financial benefits from the OROP scheme compared to the jawans, who constitute the majority of the armed forces and were supposedly receiving a lower amount.

Lied About Chinese TroopsThrashingIndian Army At LAC

On 16 December 2022, during his Bharat Jodo Yatra, Congress leader Rahul Gandhi said that Chinese troops are thrashing Indian army soldiers along the line of actual control (LAC).

Rahul Gandhi’s comments came a week after clashes broke out between the Indian and Chinese troops on 9 December 2022, in Tawang, Arunachal Pradesh. However, the truth was that Indian Army soldiers not only thrashed the Chinese troops but also chased them away across the LAC.

No Need For Armed Forces If Labourers Are Used

In 2021, Rahul Gandhi also said that India would not need its Army, Navy, or Air Force against China if Indian labourers, farmers, and workers were used.

Armed forces veterans condemned this statement vehemently.

Repeatedly Claimed Chinese Intruded Into India

Rahul Gandhi repeatedly claimed in his public statements that the Chinese have intruded into India bringing down the morale of the armed forces.

Cong Leader Deletes Post Praising India, Slamming China

Just a month before the clash in May 2020 when the tension between the countries was escalating, Congress MP Adhir Ranjan Chowdhury posted a tweet in which he slammed China and praised the Indian army.

However, the tweet was soon deleted. It is a matter of wonder who might have asked Chowdhury to delete the post.

Mocked Indian Army Jawans, Dog Unit On Intl Yoga Day

In June 2019 right after a drubbing defeat in the Lok Sabha polls, Rahul Gandhi tweeted a photo of Indian Army dogs and their handlers performing exercises on International Yoga Day.

In just one tweet Rahul Gandhi insulted the Indian Army jawans, the incredible dog unit of the Army, Yoga tradition, and the country as a whole with hisNew India’ jibe.

Allegedly Caught Using Mobile While Paying Respect to Pulwama Attack Martyrs

Rahul Gandhi was seen using his mobile phone while paying respects to the soldiers martyred in the Pulwama attack. This incident is not isolated to Gandhi alone; the Congress party as a whole has a history of actions perceived as demeaning to the Indian armed forces.

Demanded Proof Of Surgical Strikes

Congress had demanded proof of the surgical strikes carried out by the Indian Army following the Uri Attack. Former Madhya Pradesh Chief Minister and senior Congress leader, RS MP Digvijay Singh too asserted that there was no proof that the Indian Army carried out surgical strikes thereby peddling Pakistani propaganda.

Not Commemorating Kargil Vijay Diwas

The then Congress-led UPA government did not even commemorate Kargil Vijay Diwas from 2004 to 2009 since it was seen asBJP’s War

The Congress’ contempt for the Indian Armed Forces probably flows from the fountainhead of its ideologue Nehru. Because he is the man who said: “We don’t need a defence plan. Our policy is ahimsa (non-violence). We foresee no military threats. Scrap the army! The police are good enough to meet our security needs”, Nehru had allegedly told Lt General Sir Robert Lockhart, the first commander in chief of India.

The Deputy Chief of Bureau at Puthiya Thalaimurai, Ramesh Murugesan recently spread false information regarding the pension scheme of the Agniveer program, designed to recruit young soldiers for the Indian Army.

On a Twitter post, Mr. Murugesan erroneously claimed that Akshay Lakshman, a soldier recruited under the Agniveer program who attained martyrdom, would not receive any pension benefits. His tweet read, “Akshay Lakshman is the soldier recruited under Agniveer and attained martyrdom, but, like his colleagues, he won’t get any pension aids.

Rahul Gandhi also tweeted on the matter, saying, “A young man was martyred for the country – no gratuity, no other military facilities for his service, and no pension to his family in martyrdom. Agniveer is a plan to insult the heroes of India.”

Mr. Gandhi’s statement sparked controversy and criticism from various quarters, including the Indian Army.

The Indian Army swiftly moved to clarify the situation and rectify the misinformation. In an official statement, they clarified that the emoluments due to Lakshman’s family, and to the next of kin of other Agniveers who die in the line of duty, will be given a substantial compensation. According to the Army’s official tweet, these emoluments included:

1. A non-contributory insurance sum amounting to ₹48 lakh.
2. Compensation of ₹44 lakh.
3. 30 percent of Seva Nidhi contributed by the Agniveer, with equal matching contribution by the government, and interest thereon.
4. Pay for the balance tenure from the date of death, till completion of four years, which was over ₹13 lakh.
5. Contributions of ₹8 lakh from the Armed Forces Battle Casualty Fund.
6. Immediate financial assistance of ₹30,000 from the Army Wives Welfare Association for the next of kin.

After the lies of the Puthiya Thalaimurai journalist was called out, he later deleted the tweet.

About Puthiya Thalaimurai

Tamil mainstream news outlet Puthiya Thalaimurai is known for peddling propaganda favourable to the DMK and Congress.

A senior correspondent belonging to one Puthiya Thalaimurai, was caught peddling fake news saying that Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman had refused to meet Tamil Nadu Chief Minister Edappadi K. Palaniswami citing budget consultation work.

Very recently, the Dravidianist media has been peddling anti-Israel rhetoric saying that the attack has been response to the “oppressive” Israeli occupation.

Despite ample video and photographic evidence of the barbarity unleashed by Hamas terrorists, a Puthiya Thalaimurai journalist Thamizhiniyan said “Though it is being said that this attack was done by the Hamas, Israel has been continuously for years committing excesses against Palestinians. This is what people who spoke said before.

He also peddled borderline anti-Semitism saying that the attack on Israel has gained worldwide traction because Israelis (Jews) exist as power centres in many countries.

The English outlet of Puthiya Thalaimurai – The Federal. The handle had shared a caricature with the backdrop of the “flying kiss” depicting two Hindus referring to the “Kama Sutra” book and coming to the conclusion that since it was absent in this particular text, it must be a repulsive Western concept.

Niranjan Kumar, who claims himself to be a “journalist” has been caught peddling fake news several times, maing unverified claims fanning north-south divide. During Operation Ganga, he claimed that at ‘South Indian’ students are allegedly being discriminated in the evacuation operation.

An interaction session was organised by Ministry of Defence on November 30, 2022 with the Indian Defence Industry under the aegis of Society of Indian Defence Manufacturers to seek opportunities for gainful employment of Ex-Agniveers under the Corporate Recruitment Plan of the companies. The session was chaired by Defence Secretary Giridhar Aramane. Senior executives from major Indian defence industry houses including L&T, Adani Defence Ltd, Tata Advanced System Ltd, Ashok Leyland and others participated in the discussion.

The Defence Secretary highlighted the endeavour of the Government to gainfully utilise the expertise of the Agniveers after their stint with Armed Forces with an objective to employ highly dedicated and disciplined youth in various sectors engaged in nation building. The skills gained by the Agniveers during their engagement with Armed Forces will help build a highly competent and professional work force which will be readily available for fruitful and productive engagement by the industry.

The senior executives of the companies conveyed their unstinted support and commitment in the endeavour and expressed their eagerness to deploy the Ex-Agniveers once the first batch completes its term with the Armed Forces. They assured that suitable provisions shall be made in their recruitment policies for reservations for Agniveers based on the available skill sets. Certain suggestions were also considered regarding bridging the skills learnt by Agniveers with the requirements of the industry.

The Defence Secretary, while acknowledging the encouraging response from the participants, urged the Indian defence manufacturers to act on their commitment and make policy announcements under the Corporate Recruitment plans at the earliest.
