DMK stokes separatism, says Dravida Nadu demand still relevant

On June 10, the DMK IT wing’s official Twitter account quoted late former Tamil Nadu Chief Minister Annadurai, saying that the demand for a separate “Dravida Nadu” is still relevant, and has fuelled separatism.

The DMK’s separatist tweet comes after numerous BJP leaders began attacking the DMK’s secessionist undertone ‘Ondriya Arasu’ tactics, by extending support for a separate ‘Kongu Nadu’.

Earlier, in retaliation to DMK’s divisive politics, Central minister L. Murugan mentioned Kongu Nadu in his biodata, while BJP MLA Vanathi Srinivasan indicated her support for Kongu Nadu by quoting an old Tamil scripture. BJP legislative party leader Nainar Nagendran has said that if the people of Tamil Nadu want the state divided, it is the government’s responsibility to do it.

In order to counter the narrative, sympathizers of the DMK with the bio ‘Belongs to Dravidian Stock’, ‘Dravidian’, ‘Periyarists’ and Communists have been spewing hatred against the people of Kongu with the abusive hashtag #கொங்குநாடாவது_மயிராவது.

On Saturday (July 10), Tamil daily Dinamalar had published an article on the front page in which it was reported that the Central Government was mulling over the idea of creating a Kongu Naadu because of the DMK government’s deliberate provocative activities like referring to the Indian Government as ‘Union Government’ and disrespecting Jai Hind.

The Dinamalar article created a storm with social media abuzz with the hashtag #KonguNadu trending nationwide on Twitter. The demand for a separate state of Kongu Naadu found both supporters and naysayers with the former saying that that the Kongu region is being unduly discriminated especially by the DMK in terms of fund allocation and development of the region despite contributing a major share of revenue to the state. It is worth mentioning that the DMK was completely routed in the region
