DCPCR constitutes expert committee on Intersex Human Rights

The Delhi Commission For Protection of Child Rights (DCPCR) has appointed Anjali Gopalan and Gopi Shankar Madurai as expert advisors in an important case to ban non-necessary surgeries/medical interventions on infants & children with intersex traits.

This was based on the plea filed by renowned disability rights activist and medical doctor Satendra Singh, Air Cmde (Dr.) Sanjay Sharma and Dr. Aqsa Shaikh to ban/regulate sex selective surgeries on intersex infants & children in Delhi. The move has been taken based on the Madurai Bench of Madras High Court judgment to ban sex selective surgeries in Tamil Nadu, which was later followed by a government order.

The DCPCR took note of the CRPD committee recommendations to India based on the report of Intersex Activist Gopi Shankar Madurai and Miriam NNID from Netherlands.

The DCPCR served notice to Ministry of Health, Govt of NCT of Delhi.
