In yet another instances of Congress leaders making objectionable remarks against Hinduism, Telangana Revanth Reddy went on to publicly ridicule the Hindu pantheon by mocking the multiplicity of Gods and their attributes.

“How many gods do Hindus believe in? Are there three crore? Why do so many exist? There is one god for those who are unmarried — Hanuman. There is another god for those who marry twice. And there is yet another god for those who drink alcohol. For hen sacrifice, there is one; for dal and rice, there is one. Each group has its own god,” Reddy said as reported in India Today.

These statements quickly provoked backlash from opposition parties. Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) and Bharat Rashtra Samithi (BRS) accused him of insulting Hindu beliefs and demanded an immediate apology. The BJP state leadership described the remarks as shameful for millions of Hindus, while BRS leaders called the comments a crude attempt to mock faith — suggesting the remarks might be more than a slip of tongue.

Revanth Reddy had earlier courted controversy saying “Congress means Muslims and Muslim means Congress”. He also sparked controversy by questioning how many Rafale jets were shot down by Pakistan.

Kalvakuntla Kavitha, who quit the BRS after being suspended by party President and her father K. Chandrasekhar Rao (KCR), is likely to float a new party but faces an uncertain future in the crowded political space in Telangana.

With hardly any support from Bharat Rashtra Samithi (BRS) cadres, and the lack of a clear agenda makes it a daunting task for the 47-year-old to create her own identity. While her revolt and sensational allegations against her cousins – former minister T. Harish Rao and former MP J. Santosh Kumar – dealt a blow to the BRS, the lack of support from any known face in the party makes her fight a lonely battle.

Though she is yet to announce her future course of action, those close to her believe that she will turn Telangana Jagruthi, the cultural and social group she has been heading since 2008, into a political party. Kavitha’s revolt and her allegations of corruption against Harish Rao, one of the most powerful leaders of the party and a close confidante of KCR, have embarrassed the first family of BRS at a time when it was gearing up to bounce back in the state after a series of reverses since losing power in 2023.

The timing of Kavitha’s attack also raised eyebrows in the political circles. Her onslaught against the cousins came hours after Chief Minister A. Revanth Reddy ordered a probe by the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) into the alleged corruption in the Kaleshwaram irrigation project constructed during the BRS rule. The Chief Minister announced the CBI probe in the Assembly after a marathon debate on the report of the P. C. Ghose Commission, which indicted KCR and Harish Rao for their alleged role in the irregularities.

Though she tried to blame Harish Rao for the corruption tag to her father, it was seen by many as a confession when the two leaders had approached the High Court to quash the Ghose Commission report. Hence, KCR lost no time in acting against Kavitha. While both KCR and Kavitha’s brother and BRS Working President K. T. Rama Rao (KTR) have refrained from reacting to Kavitha’s allegations, they let senior BRS leaders, including women leaders, justify the action taken against her.

The BRS leaders praised KCR for what they called not sparing his own daughter to enforce discipline in the party. None of the key leaders of BRS came out in support of Kavitha, who not only quit as Member of Legislative Council (MLC) but also resigned from the primary membership of the party. Continuing her outbursts against Harish Rao and Santosh, she even alleged that they were trying to take over the party. She also cautioned her father and brother against their conspiracies.

Kavitha’s episode gave the ruling Congress and the opposition party, the BJP, more ammunition to attack the KCR family over alleged corruption during the 10-year BRS rule. Leaders of both Congress and BJP attributed Kavitha’s revolt to what they call a rift in the KCR family over the sharing of “ill-gotten” money. Political analysts believe that no one will come out in support of Kavitha, who has no mass base, unlike KCR, KTR, and Harish Rao. Even the cadres of Telangana Jagruthi are the BRS workers. In addition, Kavitha’s agenda itself is not clear. “There is no clarity on what Kavitha is demanding and what her complaint is when the party is in the hands of her father and brother,” analyst Palwai Raghavendra Reddy told IANS.

He believes that the stand taken by Kavitha in accusing Harish Rao and Santosh Kumar of being corrupt while giving a clean chit to KCR and KTR will not cut ice with people. Leaders of the ruling Congress and the other opposition are already demanding she speak out on the alleged corruption of her father and brother. By suspending Kavitha, KCR sent a strong message that he will not tolerate allegations against his nephew, who had a crucial role in building the TRS (now BRS).

“Harish Rao was in the party even before his brother and sister joined it. People who know the contribution of Harish Rao to the party will not believe what Kavitha is saying,” said Raghavendra Redy. He is also of the view that Kavitha would not be able to make any political impact. At the most, she can be a nuisance factor to the BRS and its leadership. The analyst draws a parallel with the rift between Sharmila and her brother Y.S. Jagan Mohan Reddy in the YSR Congress Party. Sharmila had played a key role in keeping the YSRCP afloat with her padyatra in the then united Andhra Pradesh when Jagan was in jail in the disproportionate assets case.

She also had a significant role in the party’s election campaign in the 2019 elections. After YSRCP came to power with a landslide win, and Sharmila wanted her pie, Jagan Mohan Reddy sidelined her. When she came out and floated the YSR Telangana Party, nobody came in her support. Sharmila merged her party with Congress, which made her the President of the party’s Andhra Pradesh unit. She claims to be the true successor of her father, Y. S. Rajasekhara Reddy’s political legacy. Unlike Sharmila, who was not made an MP or MLA, Kavitha had a political space in Telangana. She founded Telangana Jagruthi in 2009 to give cultural thrust to the Telangana movement when it was at its peak.

After the formation of Telangana State in 2014, she was elected to the Lok Sabha from Nizamabad. Though she failed to retain the seat in 2019, KCR made her a member of the Legislative Council. However, she was not given any role in the government or the party. After TRS retained power in 2018, KCR made his son KTR the heir-apparent by appointing him as the Working President of the party. As a minister holding key portfolios, KTR was the number two in both the government and the party. Some people see this patriarchal approach as the cause of family rift. Kavitha’s arrest by the Enforcement Directorate (ED) and the CBI in March 2024 in the Delhi liquor case dented her image. The political rivals dubbed her “liquor queen”.

She was the first member of KCR’s family to be arrested on allegations of corruption. After her release on bail five months later, KCR apparently wanted her to lie low due to her tainted image, which was seen as one of the factors for the party drawing a blank in the Lok Sabha elections. She, however, started reviving her political activity by taking up various issues, especially the issue of an increase in reservation for backward classes. Kavitha was apparently feeling sidelined in the party. The internal rift came out in the open in May 2025 — a few days after BRS held a massive show of strength in Warangal to celebrate its silver jubilee — when a letter written by Kavitha to KCR was leaked. This exposed the rift in the family and ultimately led to her exit from the party.

The “Marwadi go back” campaign launched recently by a section of traders and locals in Telangana gathered momentum with a shutdown observed in parts of the state on Friday on a call given by the Osmania University Joint Action Committee (OUJAC), which was supported by various traders’ associations.

Traders downed their shutters in a few commercial areas in Hyderabad and in various towns, including Yadadri, Gajwel, Dubbaka, Narayanpet, Mahabubabad, Khammam, Jangaon, Amangal, and Nalgonda. Educational institutions were also closed in some towns in response to the bandh call, which was supported by the Arya Vysya, Viswabrahmins, and Viswakarma associations.

The traders and locals took out rallies in various parts of the state. They raised slogans of ‘Marwadi go back’. They alleged that Marwadi businesses were “committing atrocities on locals and snatching away their livelihood”. Owners of kirana shops, mobile phone shops, and associations of traders participated in the protests.

Traders took out a rally in Mahbubabad. Police arrested 50 protestors for taking out a rally without permission amid tight security arrangements to prevent any untoward incident. In Hyderabad, police took OUJAC Chairman K. Tirupathi Reddy and Telangana Kranti Dal President Sangamreddy Prithviraj into preventive custody in view of the bandh call. OUJAC and Adivasi Students Union staged a protest at Habsiguda in Hyderabad.

Wearing back badges, the protestors burnt tyres in front of the jewellery shops of Marwadis. Police arrested the protestors. Tirupathi Reddy had appealed to people to participate in the bandh. He accused Marwadi businessmen of exploiting traders of Telangana through deceptive strategies. He said Telangana state was achieved after fighting the atrocities of rulers from Andhra in the united Andhra Pradesh, but Marwadis from Rajasthan and Gujarat were looting Telangana. The Vaisya Vikas Vedika and other trade associations supported the Telangana bandh.

The ‘Marwadi go back’ movement started recently after an altercation between some Dalit youths and Marwadis over a parking issue at the Monda Market in Secunderabad. A round table organised in Hyderabad passed a resolution demanding that businesses and industries established by people from other states should provide 89 per cent of jobs to locals.

The participants also demanded legislation to protect local businesses and prevent non-Telangana residents from purchasing land in the state. They also urged people to refuse assistance to Gujarati and Rajasthani traders and boycott their goods. Telangana Kranti Dal President Prithviraj had urged Telangana residents to refuse assistance to Gujarati and Rajasthani traders and boycott their goods.

“We are fighting against the exploitation of our resources. The government must ensure that outsiders do not start businesses in towns with less than 5 lakh population,” he said and alleged that outsiders were not even employing locals.

Last week, Union Minister of State for Home Bandi Sanjay Kumar slammed the ‘Marwadi go back’ movement and alleged that the Congress, the BRS, and the MIM were behind the campaign to divide Hindus.

“Marwadis have never fought for political power, nor have they looted Telangana. They have generated wealth through business and contributed significantly to GDP while upholding the Hindu Sanatana Dharma. Why should they leave Telangana?” he asked, alleging that the real threat was from the Rohingyas.

The National Human Rights Commission (NHRC) has issued urgent notices to the top administration and police officials of Khammam district in Telangana, directing a swift investigation into allegations that school children were coerced into participating in a politically and religiously charged protest.

The action comes in response to a formal complaint filed by the Legal Rights Protection Forum, which alleged grave violations of children’s rights during a pro-Palestine rally held in Khammam on 7 August 2025.

Presided over by Hon’ble Member Shri Priyank Kanoongo, the Commission took cognizance under Section 12 of the Protection of Human Rights Act, 1993. The NHRC has called for a detailed Action Taken Report within 15 days from the Khammam District Collector, the Superintendent of Police, and the Commissioner of School Education, Telangana.

The complaint alleged that nearly 25 schools, both large and small, forced minor students to attend the rally, transporting them in approximately 100 buses. At the event, children were reportedly made to enact violent depictions of the Gaza conflict, using props such as dolls wrapped to resemble corpses, stained with red colour to simulate blood. The complaint stated that such graphic dramatizations caused significant fear and emotional distress among the children.

Citing multiple legal violations, the petitioner highlighted breaches of:

  • Article 39(f) of the Indian Constitution, which mandates protection of children from exploitation,
  • Section 17 of the Right to Education Act, prohibiting mental harassment of students,
  • Section 75 of the Juvenile Justice Act, which penalizes cruelty causing mental or physical suffering to a child.

The rally was reportedly organized by a coalition including communist parties (CPI, CPM, CPI(ML)), Muslim organizations such as Jamaat-e-Islami Hind, and local leaders from the Congress and BRS parties.

The NHRC directive emphasizes the need to identify all responsible school managements and organizers, ensure counselling for affected children, and initiate legal action under relevant provisions of the Juvenile Justice Act and the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita, 2023.

The Commission has instructed authorities to submit their report via the official HRCNet portal and refrain from email communications to maintain procedural integrity.

The Legal Rights Protection Forum (LRPF) has lodged a petition with the National Human Rights Commission (NHRC) seeking an urgent inquiry into the alleged involvement of schoolchildren in a politically and religiously charged protest held in Khammam, Telangana, on 7 August 2025.

According to LRPF General Secretary A.S. Santhosh, the rally, organised by the Palestine Solidarity Committee with participation from Communist parties, Muslim organisations, and local leaders of the Congress and BRS, saw minors from nearly 25 educational institutions take part. The petition claims that around 100 buses were used to transport students to the venue, where they were made to enact plays depicting victims in Gaza and exposed to graphic props such as dolls wrapped to resemble dead or injured children.

Citing reports from VSK Telangana and The Siasat Daily, LRPF alleged that the rally carried slogans on the Gaza conflict, criticised the Indian government, and employed religious symbolism. The group argued that forcing children into such events caused emotional distress, violated constitutional protections under Article 39(f), and breached multiple child protection laws, including the Right to Education Act, 2009, and the Juvenile Justice Act, 2015.

The petition also referred to NHRC and National Commission for Protection of Child Rights (NCPCR) precedents where children’s participation in protests was deemed exploitative. It warned that such activities risk “brainwashing” minors with politically and religiously charged narratives.

LRPF identified political and organisational figures allegedly involved in facilitating student participation, including leaders from CPI, CPI(ML), CPM, Jamaat-e-Islami Hind, as well as local educational management representatives.

The forum requested that NHRC direct the Khammam District Collector to conduct a fact-finding inquiry, identify schools and organisers responsible, and recommend strict action. It also called for the Telangana School Education Department to consider suspending recognition of the implicated institutions, provide counselling for affected students, and initiate legal proceedings under the Juvenile Justice Act and the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita, 2023.

The petition noted that the rally took place despite the Bombay High Court’s July 25 observation advising Communist parties to focus on domestic issues rather than foreign conflicts.

NGO watchdog, Legal Rights Protection Forum (LRPF), has lodged a formal complaint with the Director General and Additional Director General of the National Cadet Corps (NCC), alleging that minors wearing NCC uniforms participated in a politically and religiously charged rally in Khammam, Telangana, on 7 August 2025.

According to the complaint, the rally was reportedly organised by the Palestine Solidarity Committee with the involvement of Communist parties (CPI, CPI(ML), CPM), Muslim minority organisations including Jamaat-e-Islami Hind, and local political leaders from the Congress and BRS. The LRPF stated that students from nearly 10 large schools and 15 smaller institutions took part, with several minors allegedly made to wear full NCC uniforms while participating.

The procession was said to feature slogans related to the Gaza conflict, criticism of the Government of India, and religious symbolism. The LRPF claimed that the event included graphic dramatizations, such as objects resembling dead bodies wrapped in white cloth with red colouring to simulate blood, which it said created fear among children and posed a risk of psychological trauma.

Citing Rule 45(5) of the National Cadet Corps Rules, 1948, the LRPF pointed out that NCC cadets are permitted to wear the uniform only during official functions, military parades, or prescribed ceremonies. It argued that participation in a political or religious gathering in uniform constituted misuse, punishable under NCC Rules 38–39, and potentially under Section 11 of the National Cadet Corps Act, 1948.

The LRPF also said the incident violated provisions of child protection laws, including Article 39(f) of the Constitution, Section 17 of the Right to Education Act, 2009, Section 75 of the Juvenile Justice (Care and Protection of Children) Act, 2015, and guidelines from the National Commission for Protection of Child Rights (NCPCR) prohibiting minors’ involvement in political protests.

The organisation requested the NCC Headquarters to initiate an inquiry, identify the cadets and schools involved, and take disciplinary action to prevent similar incidents.

The rift within the Bharat Rashtra Samithi (BRS) widened further on Sunday with party President and former Telangana Chief Minister K. Chandrasekhar Rao’s daughter and MLC K. Kavitha launching an open attack against party MLA and former minister G. Jagadish Reddy.

Kavitha blamed some “insiders” for derogatory comments made by suspended Congress MLC Chintapandu Naveen alias Teenmaar Mallanna against her.

Talking to media persons, she alleged that a top leader of BRS was behind the comments, and that is why the BRS leaders remained silent. In a personal attack on Jagadish Reddy for his certain comments, she called him “Lilliput”.

Kavitha remarked that the leader “who survives only in the shadow of KCR (as Chandrasekhar Rao is popularly known)” destroyed the BRS in the Nalgonda district.

“If KCR is not there, who are you?” she asked. Jagadish Reddy had reportedly made certain remarks about her position, recognition, and deviation from the party.

“Another small leader who joined the party later is also questioning my credibility. Telangana society will not spare such leaders,” Kavitha said.

Kavitha said that some leaders stooped so low to encourage derogatory comments against her. “Your efforts to sideline me and make me lonely will be paid back as I believe in Karma,” she said. Kavitha, who heads the Telangana Jagruthi, seen as the cultural arm of the BRS, has been targeting a section of senior leaders, including her brother and BRS Working President K.T. Rama Rao, since her confidential letter to KCR was leaked a few months ago.

Calling KCR a “god”, she had remarked that he is surrounded by devils. Meanwhile, Jagadish Reddy responded to Kavitha’s comments. He wrote on X that he salutes her for her knowledge about his journey in the Telangana movement. He also said he expressed sympathy for her efforts to use the words spoken by KCR’s enemies.

Responding to BJP MP C.M. Ramesh’s comments on the BRS-BJP merger, Kavitha said his comments were taken out of her leaked letter written to KCR. The BRS MLC said that the government has not yet given her permission for a dharna over the demand for 42 per cent reservation for BCs and hoped that the High Court would protect her rights.

The High Court will be hearing, on Monday, the Telangana Jagruthi’s petition for direction to the government to give permission for a 72-hour hunger strike. She said that the hunger strike would follow the Gandhian path of peaceful resistance.

Stating that there are 112 BC castes in Telangana, she said that the idea behind the 72-hour dharna is to give 40 castes every day an opportunity to express their problems. Kavitha said if Congress was sincere in its fight for 42 per cent reservation for BCs, its leaders, Rahul Gandhi and Priyanka Gandhi, should have raised their voice in the Parliament.

She slammed the BJP for not approving the two Bills sent to the Centre by the state for 42 per cent reservation of BCs in education, employment and local bodies.

A formal complaint has been lodged with the Bhadradri Kothagudem District Collector by NGO watchdog, Legal Rights Protection Forum (LRPF), alleging that three Christian pastors in Yellandu Mandal are fraudulently holding Scheduled Caste (SC) certificates in violation of the Constitution (Scheduled Castes) Order, 1950. The organization has sought immediate cancellation of these certificates, as well as criminal and departmental action against both the beneficiaries and officials involved in their issuance.

The complaint names Muppalla Poul Dhinakar (40), Ubbani Laxmaiah (64), and Ginnarapu Jacob (45), all residents of Yellandu Mandal, who are reportedly active members of the Yellandu Mandal Pastors Fellowship. According to LRPF, these individuals have been openly professing Christianity and engaging in evangelical activities, including distributing religious pamphlets and Bibles, while simultaneously availing benefits reserved for Scheduled Castes.

It is noteworthy that one of the pastors, Muppalla Poul Dhinakar, filed an FIR with the Yellandu Police on 18 July 2025 in which he explicitly declared his identity as a Christian Pastor. In the complaint, Dhinakar stated that on 17 July 2025, he and his church members were distributing gospel pamphlets in the 21 Pit area of Yellandu when they were allegedly attacked by a group of ten individuals. The assailants reportedly tore and burned the pamphlets and Bibles, hurled caste- and religion-based insults, and attempted to incite communal disharmony.

The FIR was registered under various sections of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS), including Sections 189(2), 126, 191, 196, 299, 307, and 326, along with Sections 3(1)(r)(s) and 3(2)(v) of the SC/ST (Prevention of Atrocities) Act. Those named in the FIR include Narasimha Reddy, Janakiram, Prashanth, Ramesh, Rajath Kumar, Satish Kumar, Sandeep, Pawan, Akhil, and Jayaprakash.

While the complaint was initially filed to report the alleged assault, LRPF has pointed out that the pastors’ own admission of their religious identity in the FIR establishes that they are ineligible for SC status under Paragraph 3 of the Constitution (Scheduled Castes) Order, 1950, which excludes persons professing any religion other than Hinduism, Sikhism, or Buddhism from being considered Scheduled Castes.

The complaint also referenced a 2019 circular (No. 12017/02/2018-SCD (R.L. Cell)) from the Ministry of Social Justice and Empowerment, directing states to cancel such caste certificates and take legal action against both the holders and the issuing officials.

Calling the case a “serious systemic failure,” LRPF demanded retrospective cancellation of the certificates and prosecution of the beneficiaries for alleged offences such as cheating, forgery, and fraud under BNS provisions. They also urged disciplinary action against the revenue and welfare officials involved.

BJP leader Kompella Madhavi Latha has formally approached the District Collector through the Prajavani grievance redressal platform, demanding urgent intervention to remove the illegal encroachments on the premises of the Sri Panchalingala Swamy Temple in Falaknuma. Once spanning 3.5 acres, the temple’s land has now been drastically reduced to a mere 300 square yards due to alleged unlawful occupation.

During a recent visit to the temple, Madhavi Latha was alarmed to witness the extent of the encroachment. Following her inspection, the District Collector reportedly assured her that a response would be provided within three weeks. Dissatisfied with the inaction so far, she has pledged to pursue all legal and political avenues to safeguard the temple’s land and ensure accountability.

In a statement shared on her official X account, Madhavi Latha expressed her deep concern, stating that the land once a revered spiritual space nurtured by local Hindu families has been systematically taken over. These illegal activities, she noted, have allegedly occurred with the tacit support of certain political actors and administrative negligence.

She emphasized that the issue transcends property rights; it is, in her words, “a direct assault on Sanātan Dharma, Hindu heritage, and sacred temple traditions.” Despite the existence of official documentation, including pahani records, TSLR entries, Gazette notifications, and even favorable court verdicts confirming the temple’s ownership, no decisive action has been taken thus far.

Calling this ongoing silence a sign of deliberate erosion of cultural heritage, she vowed to fight back through every legal and democratic means. She also urged devotees and concerned citizens to stand in solidarity to protect the temple and uphold dharma. “This is not just a fight to protect a holy site,” she said. “It is sacred journey to uphold Dharma and self-respect.”

Dr. Divya Sistla, a U.S.-based endocrinologist originally from Telangana, has been awarded the esteemed title of Fellow of the American College of Physicians (FACP) — one of the highest honours in the field of internal medicine. This recognition celebrates her exceptional work in endocrinology, medical research, and education. Dr. Sistla, who completed her MBBS at Kamineni Institute of Medical Sciences in Telangana, is currently a leading Endocrinologist and Obesity Medicine Specialist at UPMC Mercy Hospital in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania.

Board-certified in internal medicine, endocrinology, and obesity medicine, she is widely known for her expertise in treating complex hormonal disorders, including diabetes, thyroid disease, PCOS, osteoporosis, and Cushing’s syndrome. Alongside her clinical role, Dr Sistla serves as a Clinical Assistant Professor, mentoring the next generation of physicians at the University of Pittsburgh. She also contributes to multiple patient safety and physician wellness committees, underlining her holistic commitment to healthcare excellence.

“Receiving the FACP is a deeply meaningful milestone,” said Dr. Sistla. “As an Indian-origin physician practicing in the U.S., I’m proud to bring global best practices to my patients and continue building bridges in medical knowledge between countries,” she said. Her research spans a broad range of topics in endocrinology, including Adrenal disorders, pituitary disorders, and obesity.

Her groundbreaking research includes a widely recognized study on telemedicine that demonstrated the effectiveness of video consultations in improving diabetes care outcomes and another major publication in the Journal of the Endocrine Society examining the long-term stability of non-functioning pituitary adenomas. Dr. Sistla’s achievement is a moment of pride for the Indian medical community and serves as an inspiration for young doctors and researchers across the country.
