Madhya Pradesh Chief Minister Mohan Yadav said on Thursday that he has given a free hand to the police to deal with the Congress councillor Anwar Qadri, asserting that he will be put behind bars very soon. Qadri has been booked for his alleged involvement in carrying out religious conversion through funding. Indore police said that they have initiated an extensive search to nab the Congress councillor; however, Qadri has been absconding for the last four days.

An FIR has also been registered against him at Banganga police station on June 16. Responding to the issue, the Chief Minister said that he has instructed Indore police to find Qadri at the earliest. “I have asked the police to find him as soon as possible. Those who commit a crime will be punished as per the law. I have given a free-hand to the police. They can do whatever they want against such criminals,” said the Chief Minister, without naming Qadri.

According to police, a case against Qadri was registered at the Banganga police station in Indore based on the statement of two persons, Shahil Shaikh and Altaf Ali, who were arrested for allegedly sexually harassing Hindu women and forcing them for religious conversions. In a purported video, the arrested accused Sheikh and Shah were seen being questioned by an unidentified individual, and claimed that they were paid Rs 2 lakh and Rs 1 lakh, respectively, by Qadri to “marry a Hindu woman.”

The police officer said that while the men were initially booked under rape charges, sections related to criminal conspiracy and provisions of the Madhya Pradesh Freedom of Religion Act, 2021, were subsequently invoked. Qadri was also named as an accused. The members of the Vishwa Hindu Parishad (VHP), along with the Indore BJP unit, had staged a protest at Banganga police station, demanding Congress leader Anwar Qadri’s arrest.

In a bid to improve student enrolment in primary and middle schools across Madhya Pradesh, the government on Tuesday launched the ‘School Chalo Abhiyan’.

The four-day campaign (April 1-4) was inaugurated by Chief Minister Mohan Yadav alongside State Education Minister Uday Pratap Singh at an event held in Bhopal. The initiative aims to encourage parents to enroll their children in government-run schools, thereby addressing the issue of dropouts and ensuring universal education access.

As part of the launch event, CM Yadav visited stalls set up by students from various schools, where he interacted with them and praised their participation in extracurricular activities, including academics, sports, and cultural programs.

According to a report released during the recent budget session of the Madhya Pradesh Assembly, the state faces significant dropout rates among school-going children, particularly in the 15-16 age group — 14.1 per cent of children aged 15-16 years have dropped out of school. Among them, the dropout rate is higher for girls (16.1 per cent) compared to boys (12.2 per cent).

In the 7-10 years age group, the dropout percentage is relatively lower at 1.9 per cent. Among children aged 11-14 years, 3.2 per cent are out of school. Overall, dropout rates among girls are consistently higher than those of boys across all age groups. Nationwide, the dropout rate for children aged 15-16 years stands at 7.9 per cent, which is nearly half of Madhya Pradesh’s 14.1 per cent.

Similarly, the national dropout rate for children aged 7-10 years is 1.2 per cent, lower than MP’s 1.9 per cent. The ‘School Chalo Abhiyan’ is designed to combat these worrying trends by promoting awareness about the benefits of government schools, improving infrastructure, and offering incentives for student retention.

After nearly two decades, Madhya Pradesh is set to revive its road transport system, primarily to benefit rural communities. The Bharatiya Janata Party-led state government, under the leadership of then Chief Minister Babulal Gaur, had previously ordered the cessation of the State Road Transport Corporation, which operated buses across the state.

The decision was attributed to the significant financial losses incurred by the Corporation. “A team of officials is working on it and it would come up in any next Cabinet meeting,” a government official told IANS. The decision of the earlier government had created a vast gap in the road transportation network in the state.

Despite the arrival of private bus operators, only select routes are available to commoners, particularly majority of villages and rural masses remained bereft of any form of public conveyance. The restoration of the transport facility, especially in rural areas, is set to revitalise economic activities in tier-II towns and villages.

Additionally, it will provide essential connectivity to medical facilities and educational institutions, ensuring access and opportunities for the rural populace. Within the bounds of Madhya Pradesh, only the cities of Bhopal and Indore are privileged to possess urban bus services. The rest of the state in rural areas relies on private operators, who pick only profitable select routes.

“It is also a matter of equity, for the less privileged have as much entitlement to travel the state’s thoroughfares as those who possess automobiles,” the officials said. Chief Minister Mohan Yadav had already granted an in-principle approval and asked the relevant departments to devise an appropriate model that may be institutionalised, which, upon receiving the approbation, will be presented to the Cabinet for execution.

In this endeavour, the departments of Transport, Finance, Public Works (PWD), and Rural Development were engaged in a comprehensive study. Madhya Pradesh besides Chhattisgarh and Jharkhand stand unique in India as these states lack state-owned or state-sponsored public road transportation network. According to the official there are three models on drawing board.

The first entails the state government both owning and operating a transport corporation; the second involves the state owning the buses and infrastructure while outsourcing the operations. The third and most probable option is the enlistment of private operators to extend their services to unprofitable routes through a Viability Gap Funding model, thereby covering all districts of the state.

Akhil Bharatiya Vidyarti Parishad (ABVP) members held a protest at a missionary school in Madhya Pradesh’s Bhind following a controversy that erupted over not allowing a student to wear a ‘kalawa’ (sacred thread) and ’tilak’.

On Wednesday noon, around 25-30 ABVP members along with parents of some students shouting religious slogans, barged into the St. Michael’s school premises. Protesters chanted ‘Jai Shri Ram’ and recited Hanuman Chalisa sitting in the school’s courtyard.

ABVP members alleged that a sixth-class girl student was forced to return to his house as she had come to school wearing ‘kalawa’ and had applied ’tilak’ on her forehead. Pankaj Sharma, father of the student, talking to media persons claimed that his daughter was sent back home from school because she was wearing ‘kalawa’ and ’tilak’.

According to Sharma, the incident had occurred on December 5. “Upon knowing about the incident, when I visited the school I was humiliated by the principal (father of the school) and was forced to leave the premises,” Sharma alleged. However, the principal of St. Michael’s school denied the allegation, claiming that no such incident had occurred. Instead, the school principal claimed that notices were issued to the parents of several students regarding pending fees.

“More than 90 per cent of teachers in this school are from the Hindu community. Yes, it is a fact that the school management issued notices to some parents about deposit fees. Notices were issued to the parents of several students, whose fees have been pending,” the school principal said. He further claimed that the student’s father (Pankaj Sharma) visited his office on December 6. “He didn’t pay fees for the past four years, and when we asked to deposit the dues, he left the school threatening that he would tell us. The allegation that we have denied any student because of any other matter is completely false,” the school principal added.

Upon receiving a complaint from the school, the police team along with the Sub-Divisional Magistrate reached the spot during evening hours and initiated an investigation.

Mohanlal Sharma, a revenue officer, who is leading the investigation, said, “Upon receiving a complaint on the matter, we inspected school premises. We have taken DVR of CCTV cameras under our possession and further investigation is underway,” Sharma added.

In a protest against the gang-rape of a newly married woman in Rewa district, a group of women leaders of Madhya Pradesh Congress visited the crime spot and sprinkled ‘gangajal’ over the place on Monday. Congress workers also visited the victim’s residence and interacted with her in Rewa. Madhya Pradesh Congress chief Jitu Patwari also held a telephonic conversation with the victim’s family members.

Jitu Patwari had formed a fact-finding team in which five Congresswomen leaders were appointed. The team was assigned to collect the facts and evidence of the horrific incident which occurred on October 21. Congress has targeted the BJP government, saying that the State’s Home Department has collapsed. “We have sprinkled gangajal at the place where the woman was gang-raped. It is part of our protest against the incident,” Kavita Pandey, general secretary of MP Congress told IANS. Notably, the 19-year-old newly-married woman was gang-raped by a group of men in Madhya Pradesh’s Rewa district while picnicking near a temple with her husband, police said. The horrific incident occurred when the couple had gone for a picnic in the Gurh police station area on October 21, about two kilometres away from a famous temple.

Several young men, aged between 19 and 22 years, allegedly raped the woman and beat up her husband. Police said they have nabbed all seven accused in the case “When the incident came to our notice, we approached the couple and counselled them to report the crime,” Rewa SP said. The SP said that the men had gone to bathe and party at a pond near the temple and that they were also drunk. He further added that the case was registered under Bharatiya Nyay Sanhita (BNS) Sections 296, 127(2), 115, 351(3), 70(1), 79, and 3(5).

Chief Minister Mohan Yadav on Monday said that the government has decided to establish ashrams for priests in the religiously significant city of Ujjain. Yadav said that the ‘sadhu sanyasis’ or ascetics and other devotees of Lord Mahakal visiting Ujjain are facing a tough time finding a suitable place to stay there.

“Lakhs of Sadhu Sanyaasi will be coming to Ujjain during the Simhastha Mela in 2028. Therefore, we have decided to develop multiple ashrams on the lines of Haridwar,” Yadav said, addressing a press conference in Ujjain on Monday. Ujjain Development Authority (UDA) has been directed to identify the land and prepare a complete road map for the construction of ashrams. “Ashrams would be permanent with enough space where more than 5 lakh people could assemble at a time,” he added.

Simhastha Mela, the largest congregation of Hindus which is held once in 12 years, holds a special place nationally and globally, and the preparations are in full swing keeping all these factors in mind. The state government has already sanctioned a budget of Rs 5,882 crore for Simhastha Mela for several projects, including the construction of ghats along the Kshipra River.

This time, around 15 crore visitors from across the world are expected to visit Ujjain during the month-long Simhastha Kumbh Mela, which will be held in the religious city of Ujjain in 2028. Simhastha Kumbh Mela was last held in 2016. It had then received around 7.5 crore visitors from across the world, according to the government.

As a large number of visitors would land at Indore airport and then drive off to Ujjain for Simhastha Mela, the road connectivity between these two cities would be crucial. Besides this, the Madhya Pradesh government has also been working on strengthening rail connectivity between the two cities. The prominent cities of Ujjain and Indore are 54 km apart, which by road, amounts to a travel time of one hour and 21 minutes.

A team of doctors at All India Institute of Medical Science (AIIMS) Bhopal performed a complex and life-saving surgery on an eight-year-old child suffering from rib cancer.

Initially, the doctors applied chemotherapy to kill growing cells. However, the child’s condition was worsening, and the cancer in the ribs continued to spread. Notably, chemotherapy is most often used to treat cancer since cancer cells grow and multiply much more quickly than other cells in the body.

Seeing the child’s condition worsening, the medical team decided to proceed with the complex surgery. The surgery was performed. However, the next challenge for the medical team was to fill the gap in the ribs.

The medical team developed a new chest wall using a novel chest wall reconstruction technique. “This unique procedure, which is being applied to pediatric chest wall reconstruction for the first time, has been recognised and published in the country’s most prestigious journal.”

Association of Pediatric Surgeons Dr Ajai Singh, Executive Director of AIIMS Bhopal, said that the child, who had been on a ventilator before surgery due to the severity of the condition, was successfully taken off ventilator support just 12 hours post-surgery. The child was discharged from the hospital six days later.

The complex surgery was conducted successfully, and the child returned happily to his home, as several multidisciplinary teams from different departments of AIIMS Bhopal worked hours to make it happen.

The Pediatric Surgery Department performed the tumour excision, and the Plastic Surgery Department used the child’s tissue to reconstruct the chest wall. Similarly, the Anesthesia Department was critical in ensuring the child’s safety throughout the operation.

Dr. Ajai Singh praised the team’s efforts, emphasising that this achievement showcases AIIMS Bhopal’s commitment to innovative surgical solutions and highlights the hospital’s expertise in handling complex pediatric cases.

“This surgery is a testament to our doctors’ dedication to pushing the boundaries of medical innovation. We are proud of this breakthrough and its impact on pediatric surgery worldwide,” Dr. Singh said.

A 38-year-old trader, who doubles as a social media influencer, reportedly faced an assault as he headed home in the Arera Hills area on 7 May 2024. According to the complaint, two masked individuals riding a scooter attacked Bhupendra Jogi with a knife while he was traveling from Roshanpura towards Raj Bhavan, causing severe injuries to his shoulders and hands before fleeing the scene.

Arera Hills police have initiated an investigation, registering a case of attempted murder against the assailants, who remain unidentified. The motive behind the attack remains unclear, prompting authorities to review CCTV footage in the vicinity to identify the perpetrators.

Jogi, residing in Jogipura, Barkhedi, Jehangirabad, operates a garment store in New Market and is active on social media, creating video content. The attack occurred around 9:30 pm on 7 May 2024, shortly after he closed his shop and commenced his journey home. Despite sustaining significant injuries and receiving over 40 stitches in the hospital, Jogi cooperated with police inquiries.

In an Instagram post, Jogi appealed to the public for assistance in locating the attackers, recounting the incident and expressing his desire for justice. Additionally, it was revealed that Jogi had plans to audition for a role on an OTT platform in Mumbai, potentially alongside Salman Khan. Family members speculate that the attack may be related to these auditions. Bhupendra Jogi gained prominence following the viral spread of a meme featuring his “naam kya hai” catchphrase in 2018. Leveraging his newfound fame, he amassed a substantial following on Instagram, currently standing at approximately 196,000 followers. Jogi’s online presence facilitated encounters with influential figures, including former Madhya Pradesh CM Shivraj Singh Chouhan and Union Minister Smriti Irani.

The assault on Jogi also alleged to be linked to a recent video he posted on 20 April 2024, wherein he mocked YouTuber Dhruv Rathee. In the video, Jogi and his companions ridiculed Rathee, indicating potential motives for the attack. The video faced strong criticism on Instagram, with Jogi’s remarks inundated with comments from Rathee’s supporters urging others to stop following him. Some went as far as accusing him of aligning with the BJP. Authorities are currently conducting a thorough investigation into the situation.

A day before the celebration of Mahashivratri a monolith rock sculpture in Madhya Pradesh’s Vidisha district was discovered.

Experts are saying that it is one of the biggest rock statue of Lord Shiva in the Nataraja form dated around 1,500 years old, which was mysteriously left on the ground instead of being put upright.

The massive sculpture is 9 metres long and 4 metres wide and was chiseled out of a single rock.

A day before Mahashivratri, the state convener of Intach Madan Mohan Upadhyay said, “It is the largest Nataraja sculpture in the world. The ruins have great potential of turning into a national and international tourist destination.”

After the discovery, the Vidisha district administration, the Madhya Pradesh tourism department, and the state archeological department are now working to preserve conserve this rich heritage.

As per reports, the Shiva sculpture is so big, a drone was used to capture the image which revealed that it is a dancing Shiva.

The Nataraja sculpture according to the experts predates these ruins and according to the state convener of Intach, Madan Mohan Upadhyay the village where the sculpture was found has other associated infrastructure of palaces, temples, water bodies, bastions, fortification wall, and the gates to the city and innumerable monuments.

The area is spread on a few thousand hectares and the ruins show the rule of different dynasties, including Parmars, Gonds, and Marathas, during different periods of Indian history times.
