Actor-turned-politician Vijay, the founder of Tamilaga Vettri Kazhagam (TVK), is being positioned as a potential alternative to the Dravidian giants like DMK and AIADMK. But beneath the surface of his carefully built image lies a web of connections, allegations, and allegations suggest Vijay is being propped up by Christian evangelists, much like Andhra Pradesh’s former Chief Minister Y.S. Jagan Mohan Reddy. The parallels between the two leaders are striking—right down to their attire, their Christian affiliations, and their alleged ties to powerful religious syndicates.

The Jagan-Vijay Parallel: A Playbook For Christian Evangelism In Politics?

Y.S. Jagan Mohan Reddy, the former Chief Minister of Andhra Pradesh, is no stranger to controversy. His rise to power was marked by allegations of corruption, questionable alliances, and a strong Christian identity as Andhra Pradesh has been a hotbed of evangelical activity. Jagan’s signature white shirt and khaki pants have become synonymous with his political brand, projecting an image of simplicity and accessibility. But critics argue that his ascension was heavily backed by Christian evangelists, who saw in him a leader who could further their agenda in a predominantly Hindu state.

Now, Vijay seems to be following a similar playbook. His political attire—a white shirt and khaki pants—mirrors Jagan’s, raising eyebrows about whether this is a mere coincidence or a calculated move to appeal to a specific voter base. Like Jagan, Vijay has deep Christian roots. His family, particularly his uncles. Xavier Alphonse and Xavier Britto, have strong ties to the Catholic Church and the Society of Jesus, a powerful religious order with significant influence in education and politics.

The Loyola Syndicate: A Shadowy Network Behind Vijay’s Rise?

At the heart of this is the alleged involvement of the Loyola syndicate, a network of individuals connected to Loyola College in Chennai, an institution run by the Society of Jesus. Vijay’s uncle, Xavier Alphonse, served as the principal of Loyola College and has been accused of embezzling funds, sexual harassment, and using his position to funnel money into the family’s film ventures. Another uncle, Xavier Britto, is a wealthy businessman and film producer who has been accused of exploiting parents through his school, St. Britto’s Academy, while living a lavish lifestyle funded by his various businesses.

Whistleblowers allege that the Loyola syndicate has been instrumental in Vijay’s rise, providing financial backing and political clout. The syndicate’s alleged activities—ranging from benami transactions to religious conversion—have raised questions about whether Vijay’s political ambitions are being fueled by a larger agenda to establish Christian dominance in Tamil Nadu.

The Conversion Mafia: A Hidden Agenda?

One of the most explosive allegations against Vijay is his alleged connection to a “religion conversion mafia” linked to the Society of Jesus. Critics point to his early career, where his films were produced by Xavier Britto under XB Film Creators, and his father, S.A. Chandrasekhar, allegedly used misappropriated funds from Loyola College to kickstart these ventures. Vijay’s sudden shift from overtly Christian themes—like his “Jesus Saves” statements—to a more secular image has been viewed as hypocritical, with many accusing him of using religion as a tool for political gain.

The parallels with Jagan Reddy are hard to ignore. In Andhra Pradesh, Jagan’s administration has been accused of turning a blind eye to mass conversions and favoring Christian institutions. If Vijay follows a similar path, it could signal a seismic shift in Tamil Nadu’s political landscape, with Christian evangelists gaining unprecedented influence.

The Family Empire: Money, Power, And Influence

Vijay’s family empire extends beyond politics and films. His wife, Sangeetha, recently became a major shareholder in a UK-based real estate company, raising suspicions of money laundering. With Sangeetha holding British citizenship and their son studying abroad, the family’s international connections add another layer to this. Critics allege that these offshore ventures are being used to funnel money into Vijay’s political ambitions, with the backing of global Christian networks.

De-Hinduizing Pongal And Tamil New Year: Treading The Same Path As DMK

the DMK and other ‘Dravidian Stockists’ observe Pongal (which occurs around January 14) as Tamil New Year as they argue that celebrating Chithirai 1 as the beginning of a new year amounts to following a ‘Brahmin-dominated’ or Sanskritic tradition which goes against Dravidian ideologies. Part-time politician C Joseph Vijay, too wishes for Tamil New Year on Pongal Day (Thai 1) and not Chithirai 1.

Instead of wishing for 2024 Tamil New Year which is a significant festival for Hindus in Tamil Nadu, Vijay chose to wish his fans and followers for Ambedkar Jayanti.

This is nothing but an attempt to delink Hinduism from Tamil culture so that proselytizing forces can Christianize Pongal festival.

Vijay also did not acknowledge or wish the people of the state for Vinayakar Chaturthi, a festival celebrated by 87.58% of the Hindu population.

The Endgame: A Christian CM For Tamil Nadu?

The ultimate goal of these allegations, according to critics, is to establish a Christian Chief Minister in Tamil Nadu. With Vijay’s political entry, the pieces of the puzzle seem to be falling into place. His Christian affiliations, Loyola connections, and alleged backing by evangelists suggest a larger agenda at play. If successful, Vijay could become the face of a new political order in Tamil Nadu, one that aligns with the interests of powerful religious syndicates.

A Political Drama Scripted By Evangelists?

As Vijay prepares to contest the 2026 Tamil Nadu elections, the allegations surrounding his rise cannot be ignored. From his Christian affiliations and Loyola connections to the alleged involvement of the Loyola syndicate and the shadow of evangelism, the allegations paints a troubling picture. Is Vijay being propped up as a Christian alternative to the Dravidian parties? Are his political ambitions being funded and guided by powerful religious networks? The answers to these questions could determine the future of Tamil Nadu’s political landscape.

In the end, Vijay’s story may not just be about an actor entering politics—it could be a carefully scripted drama, with Christian evangelists pulling the strings behind the scenes. And if history is any indication, the consequences could be far-reaching, not just for Tamil Nadu, but for the entire nation.

Karnataka Minister of Information Technology and Rural Development, Priyank Kharge of the Congress, has been embroiled in a controversy following his recent comments on migration of people from Uttar Pradesh to southern part of India for job opportunities. In his remarks, Kharge allegedly denigrated the social infrastructure of north Indian states, sparking criticism from various quarters.

Kharge in his remark said, “Have you ever heard any Kannadiga say I am going to Uttar Pradesh for a job? I will show you how many people from UP and Madhya Pradesh are there in Karnataka. They come here because of the ecosystem. The Hindi heartland thinks that they can come to South India and earn a livelihood. Nobody from the South thinks they can go to the Hindi heartland and earn a livelihood because of the social infrastructure there.”

Kharge’s comments are typical of those peddled by his Dravidian Stock allies in Tamil Nadu, who often resort to belittling migrant workers from states like Uttar Pradesh, Bihar, Odisha, Jharkhand, West Bengal, etc who come to southern states to eke out a living.

Kharge’s comments have ignited a fierce debate, with many accusing the Congress Minister of resorting to divisive tactics and indulging in regional politics. Critics have raised questions about the Congress party’s rule at the center for over six decades and how Kharge’s remarks reflect on its governance and approach towards national integration.

The Karnataka Congress Minister’s statements were deemed unwelcoming and unbecoming of a national party member. Instead of promoting unity and inclusivity, Kharge’s comments seemed to take a dig at Indian states in the north of India and their social structure, further adding fuel to the fire of regionalism.

Moreover, Kharge’s factual inaccuracies have been called out, as it is observed that migrants from various states predominantly converge in Bengaluru, not throughout Karnataka. Several parts of the state, excluding Bengaluru and Mysuru, continue to grapple with underdevelopment and inadequate infrastructure.

One such region is Kalaburagi, a district in North Karnataka considered a bastion of the Kharge family’s political stronghold for 65 years under the Indian National Congress’s rule. Priyank Kharge is an MLA from Chittapur constituency.

Despite this long-standing association, the district remains plagued by underdevelopment, with 18.63% of the population classified as multidimensionally poor by the National Family Health Survey (2019-21), ranking it third among the poorest districts in Karnataka, behind Yadgir and Raichur.

The NITI Aayog National Multidimensional Poverty Index 2023 gives plenty of insights into the details of each of the states. Here is some information from the report for Karnataka.

Source: NITI Aayog

The average income in Bengaluru Urban region is five times higher than the average income in Kalaburagi, which stands as the poorest district in Karnataka with a per capita income of ₹1.2 lakh in FY22 as per the Karnataka Economic Survey 2022-23. It appears that the more affluent districts of Karnataka experience faster economic growth compared to the less prosperous ones.

Source: Karnataka Economic Survey 2022-23

The report states that Kalaburgi revenue region (comprising Ballari, Bidar, Kalaburgi, Koppal, Raichuru and Yadagiri districts), stood lowest in the per capita income followed by Belagavi and Mysore divisions due to less presence of industries and services sectors in these regions indicating a dire need for development of industries and services in these regions.

Source: Karnataka Economic Survey 2022-23

In Bengaluru Urban, the agriculture sector’s contribution to its GDP is only 0.5%, while in all other districts, agriculture constitutes at least 10 per cent of the GDP. However, in Yadgir, one of the poorest districts, agriculture makes up about 50% of the GDP.

The Karnataka Economic Survey 2022-23, Bengaluru Urban district accounted for 35.6% of the state’s GDP in 2021-22, reflecting its significant contribution to the total value of final goods and services in the state, followed by Dakshina Kannada (5.7%), Belagavi (4.2%).

Before the launch of PM Modi’s Jal Jeevan Mission, only 15.06% households had a tap water connection. Now it has increased to 60.45%.

It is to be noted that barring 1998 and 2019, it was the Congress which had held this constituency. Priyank Kharge’s father and the so-called Congress President Mallikarjun Kharge was the MP of Kalaburagi from 2009 to 2019. Yet, the people of the region are getting as basic as tap water and bank accounts only now.

Critics argue that Kharge’s own constituency and political domain should be the primary focus of development, rather than making unwarranted comments about labor migration from other states. They point out that the lack of opportunities and development in North Karnataka, coupled with political leadership, has contributed to locals seeking employment in other states, including major cities like Mumbai and Hyderabad.

Kharge’s apprehensions about labour migration from Uttar Pradesh and Bihar to Karnataka have been met with further scrutiny, as critics remind him of his alliance partners’ political reign in those states. They urge Kharge to address the issue within the context of collaborative efforts with leaders like Akhilesh Yadav, Nitish Kumar, and Lalu Yadav.

It has also been pointed out that the presence of people from various states in tier-1 cities is not an anomaly, as cities like Mumbai and Delhi also demonstrate diverse migrant populations. Thus, the claim of a lack of social infrastructure in North Indian states has been contested as factually incorrect.

Notwithstanding Kharge’s remarks, it should be acknowledged that Uttar Pradesh has demonstrated remarkable economic growth in recent years, shedding the label of a “BIMARU state.” The impressive 16.8% GDP growth in 2022-23, surpassing the national average, reflects improved law and order and increased foreign investments.

In light of the mounting criticism, Priyank Kharge faces growing calls to reflect on the developmental needs within his own constituency and work towards comprehensive solutions for the betterment of the region. As a national party member and now a state Minister, responsible and inclusive political discourse should be at the forefront of his agenda, rather than indulging in divisive rhetoric and acting like a troll on social media, say many.

The Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam (DMK) has a history and that history is loaded with its leaders derogating women. That’s because the party’s late patriarch himself has a bad reputation of being a womenizer, misogynist and making obscene remarks about women.

DMK cadres, members of the IT Wing, and pro-DMK media have taken to social media platforms, posting videos, tweets, and articles, asserting Karunanidhi’s contributions towards women’s upliftment and social justice. Padma Priya, the Deputy Secretary of the DMK IT Wing, shared a video on her Twitter account highlighting Karunanidhi’s initiatives, including granting women property rights, a 30% reservation for women in government jobs, and a 33% reservation for women in local body elections.

As Karunanidhi’s 100th birthday is being celebrated in grand style by DMK workers calling him as a torch-bearer of women’s right, here are few derogatory speeches and comments of Karunanidhi about women.

During the anti-Hindi agitations, DMK men at the behest of Karunanidhi had wall writings that said:

அத்தை மகள் தமிழ் இருக்க
ஆசை நாயகி ஆங்கிலம் இருக்க
ஊர் #தேவுடியா ஹிந்தி எதற்கு?
Which means
When you have your cousin sister whom you are entitled to marry (referring to Tamil),
when you have your good concubine/woman you desire (referring to English),
why do you need a whore (referring to Hindi)?

This was recounted by Prof. Mangai during her lecture on Tamil nationalism at the Jawaharlal Nehru University.

Her ‘Menstrual Blood’

Once during a protest staged by the DMK in Madurai, Congress leader Indira Gandhi, who was the Prime Minister at the time, was hit in the head and started bleeding. When asked to comment about the injury, Karunanidhi had perversely said that it would have been ‘menstrual blood’ that could have leaked for Indira Gandhi.

Lift The Petticoat

In another incident, a female Congress MLA called Ananthanayaki had questioned in the Tamil Nadu Assembly, as to where the so-called Dravida Naadu (Dravidian country) was after a lengthy speech given on the same topic by CN Annadurai.

Karunanidhi in a disgusting response told Ananthanayaki “If the naada (thread) is removed and paavadai (petticoat) is lifted, she can find her Dravida Naadu.”  However, DMK folks subvert this sexual speech saying that Karunanidhi meant the “thread” that is tied to the government file, and by paavadai he meant the cloth on which “urgent” would be written.

I Can Help Her Have Kids

Karunanidhi also went on to criticise former CM Late Jayalalithaa after he had consistently lost to her, saying that she will no longer be able to have kids since her best years were behind her, and said that he would have helped her have kids if she had asked him.

He had also said that she knew a lot of languages because she was in ‘that kind of a job’, hinting at prostitution as Jayalalithaa had her career as an actress.

Controversy erupted in social media as the Naam Tamilar Party cadres and its IT wing called for a boycott of Sakthi Masala because the company used Tamil text below English and Hindi in its masala packets.

This is not one of the party’s usual fringe activities, as the move allegedly has an ulterior motive to help Sakthi masala’s rival, Aachi masala, a company that has previously promoted anti-Hindu bigots.

Tamil Nadu has become one of the nation’s hubs for “ready-to-use” masalas, having previously been one of the states where these spices would be meticulously hand-picked and ground at home.

With a market value of ₹2500 crore, Tamil Nadu ranks among the largest markets for spices. Sakthi and Aachi, two local brands with a combined market share of 70%–80%, are the market leaders.

With small players operating in each district, the unorganised masala market would be worth over ₹1,000 crore. The unbranded market is assumed to have between 2,000 and 2,500 players, according to traders.

With both the major players – Sakthi and Aachi – attempting to expand their base outside of Tamil Nadu, it is clear that the current controversy is not about fighting alleged insults to the Tamil language, a political tool used by the Stockists and Thambis in Tamil Nadu.

A dig into the political affiliations of the owners of Aachi masala reveals that the current controversy has a hidden agenda.

PC Duraisamy Vs Padmasingh Isaac

P.C. Duraisamy, the founder of the Sakthi Masala, was a small time turmeric trader from a village called Perundurai near Erode. In 1975, he founded Sakthi Trading Company and began trading turmeric. Later, he entered the world of pure spice powders such as turmeric, chilli, and coriander. His curiosity allowed him to enter the masala world fearlessly. He faced numerous challenges, as selling masala powders to traditionally conservative oriental women was difficult at the time. A notable aspect of Sakthi Masala is that a majority of the workforce are physically challenged.

Mr Padmasingh Isaac is the founder and managing director of the Aachi group of companies. The masala baron, who was born in Nazareth in Thoothukudi, began his career as a Godrej sales representative before rising to his current position. As he rose through the ranks, so did the controversy surrounding him and his company, with even the brand briefly being banned in parts of Kerala.

Padmasingh Isaac And His Association With Anti Hindu Bigots

Padmasingh Isaac is the uncle of Isaac Livingstone, the Managing Director of Sathiyam TV, a Christian evangelical news channel that airs sermons of rabid Christian pastor Mohan C Lazarus who is known for spewing hate against Hindu faith. Lazarus had said that “Satan’s grip” is tight only in Tamil Nadu as it is the state with the highest number of temples in India. In February 2021, the Madras High Court came down heavy and issued a warning to the Christian pastor for making reckless statements against Hindus and Hindu religion. Lazarus was also instrumental in instigating the people against Thoothukudi Sterlite factory was Mohan C Lazarus. While addressing a huge gathering of Christians, he peddled without any scientific basis that Sterlite Copper was a toxic factory and said that the Church has risen to shut the factory down.

Padmasingh Isaac was also once honoured by Dravida Kazhagam head K. Veeramani, a fanatical anti-Hindu Periyarist. He expressed pride in receiving the honour from Ki. Veeramani.

Padmasingh Isaac And His Association With Evangelical Tamil Separatists

Padmasingh Isaac has shared the stage with rabid anti-Hindu politician Thirumavalavan and leaders espousing Tamil separatism – Seeman and Vaiko – during the launch of the book “Iniyavale Unakaga” written by Mrs. Joy Isaac, Editor of Sathyam weekly e-newspaper.

Padmasingh Isaac on the extreme left along with Vaiko, Thirumavalavan and Seeman

The anti-Hindu statements of Seeman, Thirumavalavan, and Vaiko are well known, ranging from mocking Hindu rituals and ceremonies to insulting Hindu gods.

It should also be noted that Padmasingh Isaac has funded a CSI Bethel Church in Koyambedu, and there have been rumours of conversions on social media. It is no wonder that he shared stage with the bigots like Seeman, Thirumavalavan and Vaiko.

The ‘Poochi Masala’ Controversy

A 2019 episode involving the quality of Aachi Masala is worth mentioning here. Aachi’s chilli powder failed a food safety test in June 2019 and was subsequently banned in Thrissur in September. The samples from the specific batch were tested in the Regional Analytical Laboratory in Kakkad, and the pesticide content was found to be more than 1 gram per kg, exceeding the allowable limit (0.01 mg per kg).

The pesticide content in this specific batch, titled FDGMS and manufactured in June 2019, was found to be greater than 1 gm and thus banned in Thrissur. Though the company denied the reports, the Masala brand was temporarily banned before being reinstated. This resulted in the hashtag #poochimasala trending in 2019, trying to mock Aachi masala. In Tamil, poochi masala means “Insect Masala.”

These incidents of temporary ban on Aachi Masala and the association of the MD of Aachi Masala with Evangelical Tamil separatists lead one to think that the recent controversy of Sakthi Masala allegedly insulting the Tamil language is the hit job of rival Aachi Masala to disrupt Sakthi Masala’s sales.

It is also being speculated that NTK Seeman instigated the “Tamil being insulted” controversy in order to assist Aachi Masala MD Padmasingh Isaac, who also belongs to the same caste as Seeman, Christian Nadar.

For all the talk about an imagined ‘Hindi imposition’ and insulting of Tamil language by keeping it third, it is noteworthy to mention that there are lot of Aachi Masala packets where only text in English can be found.

Does that make Aachi Masala anti-Tamil?

With the controversy surrounding the appointment of Father Mariasusai to the Tamil Nadu Public Service Commission and Dindigul Leoni as the chairperson of the Tamil Nadu Textbook and Educational Services Corporation still raging, the DMK government has made another controversial appointment by appointing Suba Veerapandian to the Advisory committee to Tamil Nadu Textbook and Educational Services Corporation. Suba Vee as he is known is best known for his anti-Hindu speeches particularly targeting the Brahmin community. He had also supported lyricist Vairamuthu who has been accused of sexual harassment by multiple women.

Suba Veerapandian runs an outfit called Dravida Iyakka Tamilar Peravai which spreads the principles of the separatist and demagogic Dravidian ideology. He incites hatred against the Tamizh Brahmin community through his speeches and TV debates.

A few weeks ago, famous Tamil lyricist Thamarai, who is known for her collaboration with film maker Gautham Vasudev Menon and Music Director Harris Jayaraj, came down heavy on Subha Veerapandian and Thiyagu, accusing them of sexual harassment.

She lashed out at Dravidian ideologue Suba Veerapandian (Suba Vee) and her ex-husband Thiyagu who also have been accused of sexual harassment. She had wrote in her Facebook profile “Suba Vee, the well-educated genius, is a ‘crook’ as everyone knows! But what happened? I was left in the middle of the road with my child. When I was stranded on the road, where were the ‘Kalanjiyams’ and ‘Nakkheerars’, who now talk vociferously, go?”

SubaVee was not only accused of being an accomplice in sexual misconduct, but he was also a key figure of an organisation that the Tamil Nadu government had banned. On August 13, 2002, the Tamil National Movement (TNM), led by P Nedumaran and in which SubaVee functioned as general secretary, was banned and labelled a “unlawful group” by the Tamil Nadu government.

Nedumaran, the TNM general secretary Suba Veerapandian and party activists Thayappan Ahmed and ”Pudukottai” Pavanam have been charged under Section 21 (2) (3) of POTA and arrested for allegedly speaking in favour of the outlawed LTTE at a meeting here on April 13, 2002.

In fact, the then DMK principal secretary and senior minister Arcot N Veeraswami condemned the provocative speeches of Suba Vee in the past. He said Suba Veerapandian, one of the speakers at a conference organised by the Viduthalai Chiruthaikal Katchi (VCK) on December 27, 2008, had allegedly stated that Sathyamurthy Bhavan, the TNCC headquarters, could have been totally destroyed, if only VCK leader Thol Thirumavalavan had given such an order. “No one who believes in democracy can accept such remarks. The DMK strongly condemns it,” Veeraswami had said back then.

His appointment to the advisory committee of Tamil Nadu Textbook Service Corporation has made people wonder what has changed now. Did he apologize for his provocative speeches while supporting the LTTE, or did he prove his innocence in the allegations levelled against him by lyricist Thamarai?

Also, in one of his speeches he made in front of school children, he said the ruling BJP government is for the Brahmins (“இது அவாளுக்கான அரசு” meaning – This is a government for Brahmins). Is this what a rational person would say in front of children? Will this not bring a divide between Brahmin and non Brahmin students in the schools. What kind of advice would he give if he was appointed to the advisory council of the Tamil Nadu Textbook Service Corporation? Will he not use his position to spread anti-Hindu and anti-Brahmin hatred?

Who will be the DMK government’s next appointment? The man convicted of killing former Prime Minister as Chairman of State Human Rights Commission?
